A catalyst-free tandem 1,5-hydride shift/cyclization process to form spiro [benzoquinolizidine-chromanones] is developed, which features high atom- and step-economy, high levels of stereocontrol, mild conditions, and a simple workup process. A series of new polycyclic spiro [benzoquinolizidine-chromanones] were obtained in high yields with excellent diastereoselectivities (up to 91% yield, >20 1 dr).Numerous studies have showed evidence that high-pressure annealing (HPA) can modify the crystal and electronic structure significantly, which thus probably alters the magnetic ordering with a different universality class. In this work, we investigate the effects of HPA on the critical behaviors of magnetization in a room-temperature ferromagnet Ce0.65Mg0.35Co3. We observe the HPA compound after annealing at 2 GPa undergoing a second-order phase transition with a decreased Curie temperature. Using the DC magnetization data, the critical exponents β, γ and δ are calculated independently by three methods including the modified Arrott plot, the Kouvel-Fisher plot, and critical isotherm analysis. The obtained critical parameters together with the magnetization data obey the scaling equation of state, indicating that they are intrinsic and unambiguous. Furthermore, we notice that HPA not only reduces the intensity of exchange coupling, but also elongates the exchange range with J(r) ∼r-4.467, which leads to a universality class different from that of the conventional compound and the existing theoretical models.
Accelerated dose infliximab (IFX) induction is associated with reduced short-term colectomy rate in acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC). Data on medium/long-term outcomes of this strategy are limited.
Evaluate medium/long-term outcomes in patients receiving IFX induction for ASUC, comparing accelerated dose (AD) and standard dose (SD) induction.
Retrospective study of consecutive patients admitted with corticosteroid-refractory ASUC in four tertiary referral centres within INITIative IBD research network (www.initiativeibd.ie). IFX rescue was given either as SD (weeks 0, 2, 6) or AD (<28 days) from January 2010 to September 2017. AD induction has been utilised in participating centres since 2014. Consequently SD patients were subdivided based on time period of IFX rescue historical SD group (SD1) (2010-2013) and current SD group (SD2) (2014-2017). Primary endpoint was time to colectomy; secondary endpoint was time to IFX discontinuation if induction was complete.
145 patients received rescue IFX of AD IFX in selected ASUC patients with more severe disease. Historical use of standard IFX induction for all ASUC patients is associated with inferior long-term outcomes.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0208112.].
To compare the corneal biomechanical parameters between pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG), primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and healthy controls using Corvis ST.
A prospective, cross-sectional study was conducted which included 132 treatment-naïve eyes which underwent Corvis ST. The study cohort comprised of 44 eyes with PXG, 42 eyes with POAG and 46 healthy controls. Corneal biomechanical parameters, which included corneal velocities, length of corneal applanated surface, deformation amplitude (DA), peak distance and radius of curvature, were compared between the groups using analysis of variance models.
The 3 groups were demographically similar. The mean IOP was 15.7 ±3 mmHg in the control group, 21.3 ±5 mmHg in the POAG group and 25.8 ±7 mmHg in the PXG group (p<0.0001). Corneal pachymetry was similar across the 3 groups. Mean DA was significantly lower (p<0.0001) in the PXG group (0.86 ±0.18 mm) compared to the POAG group (0.97 ±0.14mm) and the control group (1.10 ±0.15mm). Corneal velocities were also found to be statistically significantly different between the groups. However, after adjusting for IOP, there was no difference in any of the biomechanical parameters between the 3 groups.

Identification of effectors in pathogen genomes is foundational to understanding mechanisms of pathogenesis, for monitoring field pathogen populations, and for breeding disease resistance. We identified candidate effectors from the lettuce downy mildew pathogen Bremia lactucae by searching the predicted proteome for the WY domain, a structural fold found in effectors that has been implicated in immune suppression as well as effector recognition by host resistance proteins. We predicted 55 WY domain containing proteins in the genome of B. lactucae and found substantial variation in both sequence and domain architecture. These candidate effectors exhibit several characteristics of pathogen effectors, including an N-terminal signal peptide, lineage specificity, and expression during infection. Sardomozide order Unexpectedly, only a minority of B. lactucae WY effectors contain the canonical N-terminal RXLR motif, which is a conserved feature in the majority of cytoplasmic effectors reported in Phytophthora spp. Functional analysis of 21 effectors containing WY domains revealed 11 that elicited cell death on wild accessions and domesticated lettuce lines containing resistance genes, indicative of recognition of these effectors by the host immune system. Only two of the 11 recognized effectors contained the canonical RXLR motif, suggesting that there has been an evolutionary divergence in sequence motifs between genera; this has major consequences for robust effector prediction in oomycete pathogens.
Pouchitis is a major complication after restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Although there have been many investigations of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in various diseases, its role in predicting the development of pouchitis remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of the NLR for predicting the development of pouchitis after IPAA in UC patients.
UC patients who underwent IPAA at Osaka City University Hospital between May 2006 and March 2019 were included. The incidence of pouchitis was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Potential preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative predictors for pouchitis, including various demographic and clinical variables, were analyzed. The combined impact of the NLR and other known prognostic factors were investigated using Cox proportional hazard regression with inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW).
Forty-nine patients with UC who underwent IPAA were included.
