Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are non-coding RNAs that have the structure of a covalently closed loop. Increasing data have proven that circRNAs can influence the progression and chemotherapy sensitivity of tumors. Therefore, the underlying function and mechanisms of more circRNAs in progression and chemotherapy resistance are important.
We conducted RNA sequencing on five pairs of urothelial carcinoma samples and screened for circRNAs. CircFAM114A2 was found to be low expressed in urothelial carcinoma. The functions of circFAM114A2 in urothelial carcinoma were explored by cell cycle assay, IC
determination assay, cell proliferation assay, apoptosis assay, and tumorigenesis assay.
We discovered that the levels of circFAM114A2 were decreased in urothelial carcinoma cell lines and tissues. According to follow-up data, urothelial carcinoma patients with higher circFAM114A2 expression had better survival. Importantly, the levels of circFAM114A2 were associated with the histological grade of urothelial carcinombiomarker and therapeutic target for urothelial carcinoma.
Early gastric cancer (EGC) is invasive gastric cancer that invades no deeper than the submucosa, regardless of lymph node metastasis (LNM). It is mainly treated by surgery. Recently, the resection range of EGC has been minimized, but cancer recurrence and overall survival in some patients should be given high status. LNM is an important indicator of prognosis and treatment in gastric cancer. The law of the number and location of metastatic lymph nodes in EGC is not yet clear. Therefore, we aimed to identify the risk factors of LNM in radically resected EGC and guide treatment.
The clinicopathological factors of 611 patients with EGC were retrospectively analyzed in six hospitals between January 2010 and December 2016. The relationship between clinicopathological factors and LNM, as well as their prognostic significance, were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses.
The rate of LNM was 20.0% in the 611 EGC patients. The depth of invasion, differentiation type, tumor diameter, morphological ulceradiotherapy approach for non-surgical patients with EGC.
Fifteen lymph node dissection and D2 radical operation are the surgical options in case of high risk factors for LNM. Extended lymph node dissection (D2+) is recommended for morphological ulceration or disease located in the proximal third of the stomach due to their high rate of group 2 LNM. Furthermore, LNM is a significant prognostic factor of EGC. Moreover, lymph nodes can also play a significant role in the chemotherapeutic and radiotherapy approach for non-surgical patients with EGC.Pelvic cancer radiotherapy may cause chronic radiation proctitis (CRP) that adversely affects patient's quality of life, especially in patients with prolonged hematochezia. However, previous studies of radiation enteropathy mainly focused on acute irradiation hazards, and the detailed pathogenesis process and mechanism of prolonged hematochezia associated with radiation-induced toxicity remain unclear. In this study, we characterized the gut microbiota of 32 female CRP patients with or without hematochezia. Differential patterns of dysbiosis were observed. The abundance of Peptostreptococcaceae, Eubacterium, and Allisonella was significantly higher in CRP patients with hematochezia, while the compositions of the Lachnospiraceae, Megasphera, Megamonas, and Ruminococcaceae were lower in the microbiota of non-hematochezia patients. Functional prediction suggested significant difference in the expression of mineral absorption and the arachidonic acid metabolism proteins between hematochezia and non-hematochezia patients, possibly interdependent on radiation-induced inflammation. This study provides new insight into the altered composition and function of gut microbiota in patients with hematochezia, implying the potential use of probiotics and prebiotics for assessment and treatment of CRP.Breast periductal stromal tumor (PDST) is a rare biphasic tumor, with both benign ductal epithelium and non-phyllodes sarcomatous stroma. Its imaging features were rarely reported due to the rarity. In this study, we describe the case of a 48-year-old female who presented with a palpable mass in the right breast. Presurgery imaging evaluations of full-field digital mammography (FFDM), digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), and ultrasonography (US) were performed. The imaging features include the following 1. multiple solid lobulated lesions comprising nearly the entire right breast; 2. hypoechoic heterogeneous masses with internal separations and abundant blood flow; 3. FFDM and DBT showed multiple irregular high-density masses with lobulated margin, partially integrated. The patient underwent extended mastectomy of the right breast. The surgical pathology confirmed a PDST. After excision of the mass, she was followed up in the outpatient clinic for 25 months without local recurrence or distant metastasis.
We aimed to investigate the correlation of the perfusion parameters of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) with the molecular biological expression of breast infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) in order to guide appropriate therapeutic advice and clinical outcome prediction.
In a prospective analysis of 67 patients with breast IDC, preoperative DCE-MRI and routine MRI images were obtained. The double-chamber model (extended Tofts model) was employed to calculate the perfusion parameters. Postoperative pathological immunohistochemistry was examined, including human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2), estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), cell nuclear-associated antigen (Ki-67), cytokeratin 5/6 (CK5/6), and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Statistical analysis was applied to explore the relationship between the perfusion parameters and the molecular biomarkers of breastcancer.
A total of 67 lesions were included in our study. The mean maximum diametl to assess the molecular biological expression and the molecular subtypes of breast IDC. They may aid in predicting breast IDC invasiveness, metastasis, and prognosis.
DCE-MRI perfusion parameters can behave as a noninvasive tool to assess the molecular biological expression and the molecular subtypes of breast IDC. They may aid in predicting breast IDC invasiveness, metastasis, and prognosis.Schwannomas are extremely rare over auricle. Despite the extensive somatogenic neural innervations of the pinna, schwannomas are never amongst the differentials for a benign auricular mass. Previously published articles have all agreed on the rarity of this lesion occurring over the auricle. However, none of the articles have tackled and extensively reviewed the auricle schwannomas (AS) as an individual entity. The article aim to review previously published cases of AS along with an illustrative case, and provide a better insight regarding demographic, clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of this neural tumor in a rare site. A systemic review of English literature was performed after using a sensitive search strategy involving three different databases (PubMed, Google Scholar and Embase). A total of nine cases were included. They mostly presented in young adults as a slow growing tumor (mean duration 3.17 years) and showed a slightly higher male predominance (male/female ratio 1.251). They were mostly located over lateral surface (66.67%) with a predilection for left ear (77.78%). Conventional histological variant has only been reported. Complete surgical excision was performed for all the cases without any reports of recurrence or malignant transformation. AS present as a solitary, painless, firm and well-encapsulated lesion, mostly over the lateral auricle surface. see more Preoperative clinical diagnosis is difficult and radiological investigations do not hold much importance. FNAC is inconclusive and diagnosis mandates histopathologic examination. The nerve of tumor origin is difficult to precisely identify. Complete surgical excision is the treatment of choice. Post-operative prognosis is excellent.Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) causes long-term discomfort for patients, and due to the frequent relapses and dissatisfaction with current treatments, CRS patients pay more attention to herbal-traditional remedies nowadays. Nigella sativa seed has a special place in Traditional Persian medicine because of its therapeutic and clinical applications. Therefore, we decided to evaluate the effect of N. sativa seed extract on clinical symptoms of CRS patients. In a double-blind controlled clinical trial on CRS patients referred to otolaryngology clinics of Firoozgar and Amiralmomenin hospitals, all the patients used nasal drops of the N. sativa (drug) or sesame oil extract (placebo), and standard SNOT-22 questionnaire completed on days 0 and 28th of study. link2 Data collected and statistical analysis performed by SPSS software. Level of significance was considered as P less then 0.05. Out of 53 subjects (33 male and 20 female), 27 were assigned in the drug group and 26 in the placebo group. The mean SNOT-22 score on the 28th day was 19.08 ± 13.21 in the drug group, and in the placebo group, the mean was 37.15 ± 21.47 (P = 0.001). N. sativa extract was particularly effective in improving the feeling of pain, pressure or fullness, numbness and congestion in the nose, and reduction of bad breath. The results of our study indicated that the N. sativa seed nasal drop significantly improved the symptoms of CRS-especially, four major and one minor symptoms- and improved the quality of life of the patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate sphenoid sinus pneumatisation and its anatomical relation with adjacent neurovascular structures in Indian population. link3 We performed a retrospective cross-sectional study, in which the pattern of sphenoid sinus pneumatization was studied on high-resolution computed tomography scans (n = 400), and association of the optic nerve, vidian canal and foramen rotundum along with related morphometric measurements were studied. Out of 400 CT scans, 60.5% were males. Majority had sellar type of pneumatization (89.5%) and single intersinus septum (68%). The most common configuration of relation of optic nerve canal was DeLano type 2 (34.75%). Vidian canal (VC) and Foramen rotundum (FR) were found dehiscent in 40.5% and 6.38% respectively. Average distance of FR from midline on right and left side was 16.3 ± 2.19 mm and 16.7 ± 2.23 mm respectively. Average distance of VC from midline on right and left side was 12.4 ± 5.84 mm and 12.4 ± 4.18 mm respectively. Average right FR to VC distance was 4.17 ± 2.16 mm and left FR to VC was 4.44 ± 2.20 mm. Anatomical variations of the sphenoid sinus are well known. In the present study, we have tried to highlight the importance of knowledge of various anatomical variations in relations to sphenoid sinus as they are critical in planning of surgery. Pre-operative radiological study and correlation is inevitable to assess type and extent of sinus pneumatisation, bony dehiscence and septal terminations to avoid injury to vital structures. Most of the ENT surgeries (tympanoplasty, rhinoplasty, ossiculoplasty, septoplasty) involve the reconstruction and the functional correction of the respective structures involved. Success of otorhinolaryngological surgeries depends on accurate measurements and precision in judgement. There is need to develop simple tools for measurements which are easy to procure, accurate and simple to handle. Every surgeon needs unique tools to accomplish such an outcome. In order to tackle this difficulty and to ease the learning process in ENT surgeries, we have developed an accurate specific measurement grid.
