Buying a Tandem Double Buggy
A tandem double buggy can be a fantastic option when you have twins or children who are very close in age. They are smaller than side by side buggies, and are great for tight spaces like doors, public transport and rough terrain.
Many convert into travel systems to use two carrycots or car seats. They can be heavier, longer and less stable than a single pushchair.
Convertible
There are a variety of options for adding a second seat or converting a single stroller to a double. The Vista V2 from UPPAbaby is a spacious, gorgeous stroller that easily converts from a single stroller to double by incorporating the rumble seat (available separately). It is more expensive and less maneuverable due to the fact that the second seat is placed behind the first seat. Nuna Demi Grow offers a similar option, but it lacks storage under the seat when used as a double stroller.
Other options include twin buggies with all-terrain wheels, and joggers with fixed wheels that can hold two children. They are more expensive however, they are designed for long-distance trips over rough terrain and come with a higher resale price.
Independent seat recline
If you need a double buggy that is able to transport children of different ages, you'll want one that has recline independent for both seats. This allows your child of a higher age to sit back and relax while the baby sleeps in the bassinet, and the reverse.
Think about the width of your pushchair to determine how easy it is for you to get through doors and public transportation. If your doorways are very narrow, you may be considering a side-by-side pushchair such as the Mountain Buggy Duet. It has a footprint that is similar to a single stroller, but it can accommodate two seats and car seat adaptors.
Tandem buggies are generally smaller than side-byside models and so aren't as easily maneuverable through kerbs and up and down, but they can accommodate a wider variety of car seat/car seat combinations, and are a great option for twins or siblings of various age groups. These buggies are more expensive than single-to-double buggies however they're worth it if you plan to keep it for a few years. They will also retain some value when sold once your children are old enough to use it.
This feature will allow you to place your child in the most comfortable position for naps or observation. This is particularly important if you have a younger child in the rear seat, who will prefer to lay back and take a snooze while the older child would prefer to sit up and observe their surroundings.
Some brands feature an exclusive seat design that allows the back seat to fully recline to an almost flat position which is perfect for babies. The iCandy Orange, for example is a stadium-style seat that can be reclined to multiple positions. It also has a UPF 50+ canopy and windows that peek out.
More spacious than twin buggies
There's no need to have twins to benefit from a bigger double buggy - they're ideal for siblings of various age groups. They allow you to get around without having to worry about your children touching. They're usually a bit larger too, with one seat sitting behind the other, and typically with a fully-flat recline option for babies (or a more upright position for toddlers).
Mountain Buggy Duet is a popular choice. It is the slimmest design of the two-in-ones on the market, and a footprint comparable to a single stroller. It also comes with an adjustable handle, making it easier for parents of various heights to push and a handbrake that is useful when tackling difficult terrains. It is suitable to use from birth and it can be combined with a variety of car seats and carrycots.
Another option is the iCandy Wave, which has a simple one-click to fold and is able to be used in duo or mono mode. Its innovative frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat and can be used with up to two car seats or carrycots making it a great option for older siblings who wish to sit together and enjoy the view. It's a little bigger than the other models, but it isn't heavy and has a soft suspension for curbs.
There are a lot of 3-wheeler tandems inline available such as Phil and Teds' inline models or iCandy's Peach and Pear buggies, for instance that offer stability and swift steering. They can be folded into one buggy in case you have a small space at home or you need to transport it from your car to the bus station.
Be aware that a two-wheeled buggy is more heavy and more bulkier than one compact buggy. Make sure you know what you want before you buy. You'll need to take it off and on subways, buses, and trains often, so it should be simple to use and manage. You might need to manage the car seat while taking your child to school or the nursery.
Suitable from birth
Whether you're expecting twins or you have a child following your first, you're going to require a stroller that can accommodate the entire family. Double buggies tend to be heavier, bulkier, and more expensive than single strollers. However, they are more maneuverable in tighter doors or around obstacles such as curbs. Many double buggies are compatible with piggyback boards (available from the manufacturer or as an accessory). This lets you transport three children simultaneously.
Tandem pushchairs put one child in front of the other, and they're usually a better option when you have two children who are close enough in age to get along well together. They're not foolproof. Siblings who are sitting side-by-side could kick or punch each other and children with different heights may fight over who sits taller. A tandem high-low model can solve this issue by elevating the seat to the rear, preventing your older child from sitting on the bottom and not having much of a view.
The iCandy Wave is a good option for parents who are looking for an adjustable double buggy that can be converted into a carrycot that can fit both the newborn and the older child. It features an intelligent frame that increases in size when you add a second child seat. double buggy newborn can also fold flat for compact storage. The cushioned straps, buckles, and seats are all of the highest quality we have encountered in any of our tests. The canopy is large in size with UPF 50+ protection, and a peekaboo window. Both seats are reclined independently.
double jogging stroller to the iCandy is that it's a little expensive, but a quality tandem will last for years and maintain its resale value, so you'll probably get back some of the cost over the long term. The iCandy doesn't come with the same seating configurations as our other top selections. However, it's an ideal choice for families who don't want to spend a lot of money.
