Of the 69 patients who survived more than 30 days after initial treatment, the median survival time was 268 d. In the multivariate analysis, among the 69 who survived, early modified LCSGJ stage (P = 0.003) and staged hepatectomy as definitive treatment (P less then 0.001) were significant predictors of increased long-term survival. CONCLUSION Short-term survival of patients with initially unresectable ruptured HCC could achieve with better Child-Pugh class, absence of shock and aggressive initial treatment strategies. After survived the emergency phase of tumor rupture, long-term survival was significantly increased with early modified LCSGJ stage and staged hepatectomy therapy.Duodenal tumours are uncommon, but they can cause significant morbidity and mortality. As stomach and colon are a more common site of gastrointestinal malignancies, radiologists sometimes neglect the duodenum. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can accurately locate and characterize mass-forming duodenal lesions, making them invaluable for the differential diagnosis and determining management strategies such as biopsy or surgery. Although conventional endoscopy continues to play an important role in the diagnosis of duodenal tumors, MDCT and MRI are very useful for evaluating the duodenal wall, extraduodenal space, and surrounding viscera, as well as the intraluminal content seen on endoscopy. This pictorial review aims to illustrate the most common benign and malignant mass-forming duodenal lesions and to focus on the imaging features that are most helpful in reaching the correct diagnosis.Gastric cancer is the fifth most common malignancies and the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, with more than 40% of new cases occurring in China. With the advancement of treatment methods, the application of adjuvant therapy and targeted drugs, the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer has been significantly improved. In recent years, more and more studies have reported that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed great value in the clinical application among patients with gastric cancer, including preoperative staging, treatment response evaluation, predicting prognosis and histopathological features, treatment guidance, and molecular imaging. The remarkable research progress of MRI in gastric cancer will provide new evaluation and treatment approaches for clinical diagnosis and treatment. This article aims to review the current status of the application and research progress of MRI in patients with gastric cancer.Radiographs of the abdomen and pelvis are routinely obtained as a standard part of clinical care for the abdomen and pelvis. Brisk advances in technology over the last few decades have resulted in a multitude of medical devices and materials. Recognizing and evaluating these devices on abdominal and pelvic radiographs are critical, yet increasingly a difficult endeavor. In addition, multiple devices serving different purposes may have a similar radiographic appearance and position causing confusion for the interpreting radiologist. The role of the radiologist is to not only identify accurately these medical objects, but also to confirm for their accurate placement and to recognize any complications that could affect patient care, management or even be potentially life threatening. An extensive online search of literature showed our review article to be the most comprehensive work on medical devices and materials of the abdomen and pelvis, and in this second part of our two-part series, we discuss in depth about the neurologic and genitourinary devices seen on abdominal and pelvic radiographs.Dechlorane Plus (DP) is a widely used chlorinated flame retardant, which has been extensively detected in the environment. Although DP content in the surface water is low, it can pose a continuous exposure risk to aquatic organisms due to its strong bioaccumulation. Considering that the related studies on the toxicity mechanism of DP exposure are limited, the effect of DP on carp embryo development was evaluated. In the present work, carp embryos were exposed to different concentrations (0, 30, 60, and 120 μg/L) of DP at 3 h post-fertilization (hpf). The expression levels of neural and skeletal development-associated genes, such as sox2, sox19a, Mef2c and BMP4, were detected with quantitative PCR, and the changes in different developmental toxicity endpoints were observed. Our results demonstrated that the expression levels of sox2, sox19a, Mef2c and BMP4 were significantly altered and several developmental abnormalities were found in DP-exposed carp embryos, such as DNA damage, increased mortality rate, delayed hatching time, reduced hatching rate, decreased body length, and increased morphological deformities. In addition, the activities of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde were remarkably higher in 60 and 120 μg/L DP exposure groups than in control group. These results suggest that DP can exhibit a unique modes of action, which lead to aberration occurrence in the early development stage of common carps, which may be related to some gene damage and oxidative stress. Besides, the parameters evaluated here can be used as tools to access the environmental risk for biota and humans exposed to DP. BACKGROUND Epidemiologic studies on the association between metals and body mass index (BMI) have been cross-sectional and have demonstrated inconsistent associations. Our study prospectively examined whether metals measured at baseline were associated with later BMI. We considered metals individually and as joint exposure to pre-defined metal groupings. METHODS We measured concentrations of 16 metals in toenails collected at baseline (2003-2009) in a subset of 1221 women from the Sister Study. selleck kinase inhibitor We calculated BMI from height and weight reported on a follow-up questionnaire an average of 5.2 years (range = 3.5-8.3) after baseline. Multivariable linear regression was used to estimate β coefficients and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations between BMI and individual metals (with estimates given per interquartile range (IQR) increase or in quartiles). Quantile g-computation was used to examine joint associations between groups of metals and BMI. Groups considered were (1) all metals combined, and metals classified as (2) non-essential or (3) essential.
