This study investigated the distribution of valve incompetence in patients with chronic venous disease (CVD) and its correlation with the clinical category of the clinical, etiological, anatomical, and pathophysiological (CEAP) classification.

In total, 1,386 limbs with clinically suspected CVD were categorized according to the CEAP classification and consecutively underwent duplex ultrasonography between April 2017 and December 2020.

There were 362 limbs in male patients and 1,024 limbs in female patients. The limbs were classified as C0s-C1 (608 limbs, 43.8%), C2 (727 limbs, 52.5%), or C3-C6 (51 limbs, 3.7%). The prevalence of saphenous vein incompetence in CEAP C0s-C1 limbs was 43.6%. The saphenofemoral junction (SFJ) was competent in 37% of CEAP C2-C6 limbs. The CEAP C3-C6 category was not correlated with reflux patterns of the saphenous vein system (Cramer's V=0.07), incompetent SFJ (Cramer's V=0.07), deep vein reflux (Cramer's V=0.03), or the distribution of incompetent segments in the great saphenous vein (GSV) (Cramer's V=0.11).

In this article, we discuss how researchers using CGT can privilege children's voices through effective knowledge coconstruction by creating a child-sensitive research space and using methods that are appropriate to their abilities and interests. We draw on selected data from the first author's (I. S.) PhD project that explores Indian immigrant children's and their family carers' beliefs, practices, and experiences of asthma in New Zealand. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging of the brain can be performed in the angiography suite to support various neurovascular procedures. Relying on CBCT brain imaging solely, however, still lacks full diagnostic confidence due to the inferior image quality compared with CT and various imaging artifacts that persist even with modern CBCT.

To perform a detailed evaluation of image artifact improvement using a new CBCT protocol which implements a novel dual-axis 'butterfly' trajectory.

Our study included 94 scans from 47 patients who received CBCT imaging for assessment of either ischemia or hemorrhage during a neurovascular procedure. Both a traditional uni-axis 'circular' and novel dual-axis 'butterfly' protocol were performed on each patient (same-patient control). Each brain scan was divided into six regions and scored out of 3 based on six artifacts originating from various physics-based and patient-based sources.

The dual-axis trajectory produces CBCT images with significantly fewer image artifacts than the traditional circular scan (whole brain average artifact score, AS 0.20 vs 0.33), with the greatest improvement in bone beam hardening (AS 0.13 vs 0.78) and cone-beam artifacts (AS 0.04 vs 0.55).

Multiple studies have reported the clinical usefulness of silent magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in the follow-up of endovascularly-treated aneurysms. However, most previous studies were retrospective or with small sample sizes. The objective of this study was to prospectively evaluate the diagnostic performance of silent MRA in the follow-up of intracranial aneurysms treated by different interventional approaches.

Patients with endovascularly-treated intracranial aneurysms and followed by silent MRA and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) were enrolled. The visualization of treated sites on silent MRA was rated on a 5-point scale. The aneurysm occlusion status was evaluated using the Raymond Scale and a simplified two-grade scale.

A total of 155 patients with 175 treated aneurysms were enrolled. The average score for the visualization of treated sites was 3.92±0.94, and 93.7% (164/175) had a score ≥3. In the subgroup analysis, except for the simple coiling group which had an obviously higher score (4.95±0.21), there was no significant difference among the stent-assisted coiling group (3.51±0.77), flow diversion group (3.74±0.80), and flow diversion with coiling group (3.40±1.17). Regarding aneurysm occlusion status, silent MRA and DSA were discordant for only one aneurysm using the Raymond Scale, and the inter-modality consistency was almost perfect (κ=0.992, 95% CI 0.977 to 1.000).

134 samples, subdivided into four categories, were analyzed by EIS 29 'White', 26 'Mixed', 12 'Red' thrombi, and 67 liquid 'Blood' samples. Thrombi were generated in vitro using citrated human blood from five healthy volunteers. Histological analysis was performed to validate the thrombus categorization based on red blood cell content.
