Household physical activity is associated with decreased risk for future falls; however, it is not known what components of household physical activity are associated with this decreased risk. In the current study, the frequency of seven household physical activities performed in the previous 12 months was assessed child or older adult care, meal preparation, major cleaning, routine cleaning, gardening/yardwork, heavy outdoor work, and major home decoration or repair. Berg Balance Scale scores were dichotomized at ≤50, indicating less risk for future falls. Only gardening/yardwork was associated with less risk for future falls (odds ratio = 1.41, p = 0.007) while controlling for age, gender, race, body mass index, and number of medications (χ2 = 18.33 [6], p = 0.005), explaining 17% to 23% of the variance in risk of future falls in community-dwelling older adults aged 65 to 90 years (N = 99). Clinical nursing implications include considering gardening/yardwork as an intervention to decrease risk of future falls. [Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 47(6), 13-18.].Hospitalized older adults frequently develop aspiration pneumonia, swallowing dys-function (dysphagia), and sarcopenia. In the current study, we propose a framework that incorporates these three factors into a vicious circle that leads to deconditioning, a condition frequently experienced by this vulnerable population. Viewing aspiration pneumonia, dysphagia, and sarcopenia, along with their interrelationships through the lens of this vicious circle, illuminates the critical role that oral health plays in deconditioning. Moreover, this framework highlights oral care as a key nursing intervention for reducing deconditioning in hospitalized older adults. Supporting this view, several studies have shown that oral care can improve health outcomes for hospitalized older adults. However, despite oral care being an essential nursing intervention that restores oral function and promotes patient wellness, it is one of the most neglected nursing interventions. Missed oral care occurs due to staff's limited awareness of its significance for care-dependent older adults in hospital settings. We hope that this vicious circle paradigm helps raise awareness of the significance of oral care to prevent deconditioning in hospitalized older adults. Several clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of this drug in Multiple Sclerosis, estimating a significant improvement in cognitive performance.The aim of our study is to evaluate the effects of teriflunomide by analysing the correlation between brain atrophy and the general cognitive profile and evaluating long-term changes. The effect of teriflunomide was studied in 30 patients with multiple sclerosis and 30 control subjects. Patients underwent a full cognitive profile assessment using the Brief Repeatable Battery of Neuropsychological Tests and a neuroimaging examination with a 3.0 T working scanner.Our results suggested that treatment with teriflunomide could potentially not only slow down the accumulation of microstructural tissue damage in Grey Matter and With Matter, but also better preserve the cognitive profile, particularly by highlighting the benefits in the memory domain. The Wnt pathway and WNT10B, the main member of Wnt family, participate in angiogenesis in cancer tumors, but there is limited evidence to support the regulatory role of WNT10B in human adipose tissue angiogenesis. Subcutaneous white adipose tissue (scWAT) of 80 participants including obese and non-obese subjects was obtained and the expression of WNT10B and VEGFA genes were evaluated using qPCR. Human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSC) were differentiated to adipocytes and incubated under either hypoxic or normoxic conditions. The conditioned media of these adipocytes were collected and used as growth media for human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in Matrigel. We evaluated the proliferation, cell cycle phases, tubule formation and β-catenin activation of these treated cells. We found a significant correlation between WNT10B and VEGFA expression in the scWAT of both obese and non-obese subjects. Proliferation and tubule formation of HUVEC treated with conditioned media of hypoxic adipocytes (hCM) in the S-phase were increased significantly compared to the HUVEC treated with the conditioned media of normoxic adipocytes (nCM).
