54% and arm muscle circumference 13.54%) for the upper arm anthropometric measurement. In multivariate analysis, decreased arm muscle circumference was significantly associated with sarcopenia risk.
Values obtained using the bioelectrical impedance analysis method were interchangeable with the values obtained using manual measurement. This shows that upper arm anthropometric measurement using bioelectrical impedance analysis might be useful as a nutritional assessment tool for older adults requiring long-term care. How the environment influences the distribution of trait variation across a species' range has important implications for seed transfer during restoration. Evolution across environments could influence fitness when individuals are transferred into new environments. Here, we evaluate the role the environment has had on the distribution of genetic variance for traits important to adaptation.
In a common garden experiment, we quantified trait differentiation for populations of Geum triflorum sourced from three distinct ecoregions and evaluated the ability of climate to predict trait variation. Populations were sourced from the Manitoba and Great Lake alvar ecoregions that experience predictable extremes in seasonal water availability and the prairie ecoregion which exhibits unpredictable changes in water availability.
Plants sourced from alvar ecoregions exhibited smaller but more stomata and greater intrinsic water-use efficiency relative to prairie plant populations, supporting the evolution of ecotypic differences. Estimates of standing genetic variance and heritable genetic variation for quantitative traits suggest alvar populations have greater adaptive potential. However, low evolvability suggests all populations likely have limited capacity to evolve in response to environmental change.
These results highlight the importance of the environment in influencing the evolution and distribution of genetic differences across populations used as seed sources for restoration. Additionally, these data may inform recommendations for seed transfer across novel environments and our expectations of populations' adaptive potential.

Fragmented industry and occupation surveillance data throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has left public health practitioners and organizations with an insufficient understanding of high-risk worker groups and the role of work in SARS-CoV-2 transmission.
We drew sequential probability samples of noninstitutionalized adults (18+) in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System with COVID-19 onset before November 16, 2020 (N = 237,468). Among the 6000 selected, 1839 completed a survey between June 23, 2020, and April 23, 2021. We compared in-person work status, source of self-reported SARS-CoV-2 exposure, and availability of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) by industry and occupation using weighted descriptive statistics and Rao-Scottχ
tests. We identified industries with a disproportionate share of COVID-19 infections by comparing our sample with the total share of employment by industry in Michigan using 2020 data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Employed respondents (n = 1244) were predomcted with COVID-19, as well as for future airborne infectious diseases for which we have little understanding of risk factors.
Workplaces were a key source of self-reported SARS-CoV-2 exposure among employed Michigan residents during the first year of the pandemic. To prevent transmission, there is an urgent need in public health surveillance for the collection of industry and occupation data of people infected with COVID-19, as well as for future airborne infectious diseases for which we have little understanding of risk factors.Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare but severely debilitating drug-induced bone disorder in the jawbone region. The first MRONJ was reported in 2003 after bisphosphonate (BP) exposure. Recently, other drugs, such as receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) inhibitor denosumab and antiangiogenic agents, were also associated with MRONJ. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and risk factors for MRONJ related to BPs or denosumab in cancer patients in real-world clinical settings using data from the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium. We queried the electronic health records of participants with prescriptions of intravenous (IV) BPs or denosumab between January 1, 2012, and September 1, 2021, in the OneFlorida Consortium. learn more Time to MRONJ diagnosis was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and Cox regression analysis was performed to estimate the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for MRONJ. A total of 5689 participants had one or more prescriptions of IV BP or denosumab within this study period and were included in this study. Among these participants, 52 (0.9%) had a diagnosis of MRONJ. The overall rate of MRONJ was 0.73%, 0.86%, and 3.50% in the cancer patients treated with IV BPs, denosumab, and sequential IV BPs and denosumab, respectively. The risk of MRONJ was similar in participants treated with denosumab alone compared to those treated with IV BPs alone (HR 1.25, 95% CI 0.66-2.34, p = .49). Patients with sequential prescription of IV BP and denosumab were at much higher risk for MRONJ, with an adjusted HR of 4.49, 95% CI of 1.96-10.28, p = .0004. In conclusion, in real-world clinical settings, the rates of MRONJ associated with IV BPs and denosumab were similar, while the sequential treatment of these two drug classes was associated with a much higher risk of MRONJ. © 2022 American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).
In recent years, violent extremism (VE) attacks have escalated worldwide. More schools and students are being attacked. Examining and addressing VE core causes through preventing VE (PVE) strategies can help avoid future atrocities. Due to the tremendous proliferation of research geared toward PVE, an extensive but disorganized knowledge review has accumulated in recent years. The review aims to discover several common themes and strategies across different disciplines and suggests resilience approaches might be the effective framework for PVE worldwide.
This study followed the guidelines provided by PRISMA. A systematic literature review on 81articles was conducted in January 2022, with a screening approach starting from the title, abstract and finally, full articles.
Seventeen studies were identified with a total sample of 2415 vulnerable young adults, age range 16-29, male 68.65% and female 31.35% mainly influenced VE pursuits through internet, TV and social media. In addition, the study identified that for PVE, individual actions would include ineffective approaches compared to a group approach starting from family to educational institutions.
The effective PVE will be ensured by developing strategies for resilient individuals and dialoguing from the social-ecological perspective for taking practical actions in reducing VE activities.

We review common principles, knowledge and methods of integrated research according to the whole-pipeline processing mechanism diverse, coherent, sharing, auditable and ecological. First, neuromorphic and native algorithms integrate diverse datasets, providing linear scalability and high visualization. Second, the choice mechanism of different preprocessing, analysis and transaction methods from raw to neuromorphic was summarized on the node and coordinator platforms. Third, combination of node, network, cloud, edge, swarm and graph builds an ecosystem of cohort integrated research and clinical diagnosis and treatment. Looking forward, it is vital to simultaneously combine deep computing, mass data storage and massively parallel communication.Approximately 50% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients will develop psychotic symptoms and these patients will experience severe rapid cognitive decline compared with those without psychosis (AD-P). Currently, no medication has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for AD with psychosis (AD+P) specifically, although atypical antipsychotics are widely used in clinical practice. These drugs have demonstrated modest efficacy in managing psychosis in individuals with AD, with an increased frequency of adverse events, including excess mortality. We compared the differences between the genetic variations/genes associated with AD+P and schizophrenia from existing Genome-Wide Association Study and differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We also constructed disease-specific protein-protein interaction networks for AD+P and schizophrenia. Network efficiency was then calculated to characterize the topological structures of these two networks. The efficiency of antipsychotics in these two networks was calculated. A weight adjustment based on binding affinity to drug targets was later applied to refine our results, and 2013 and 2123 genes were identified as related to AD+P and schizophrenia, respectively, with only 115 genes shared. Antipsychotics showed a significantly lower efficiency in the AD+P network than in the schizophrenia network (P less then 0.001) indicating that antipsychotics may have less impact in AD+P than in schizophrenia. AD+P may be caused by mechanisms distinct from those in schizophrenia which result in a decreased efficacy of antipsychotics in AD+P. In addition, the network analysis methods provided quantitative explanations of the lower efficacy of antipsychotics in AD+P.
Patients with relapsed and refractory solid and central nervous system (CNS) tumors have poor outcomes and need novel therapeutic options. Vincristine, irinotecan, and temozolomide (VIT) is a common chemotherapy regimen in relapsed pediatric tumors with an established toxicity profile. Metformin shows preclinical anti-cancer activity through multiple pathways.
The objective of this Phase I trial was to establish the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and recommended Phase II dose (RP2D) of metformin in combination with VIT in children with relapsed and refractory solid and CNS tumors. A 3+3 design was used to test the addition of metformin at five dose levels (666, 999, 1333, 1666, and 2000 mg/m
/day). Therapy toxicity, pharmacokinetics, and radiologic response to treatment were evaluated.
Twenty-six patients (median age 13 years, range 2-18 years) were enrolled with 22 evaluable for toxicity. The most common diagnoses were Ewing sarcoma (n= 8), rhabdomyosarcoma (n= 3) and atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (n= 3).
