Chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is a disease of the elderly population. Incidence in paediatric population is relatively uncommon. Child abuse, birth trauma, coagulopathy and shunt surgeries represent major causes. Major impact of the disease on life of patient due to recurrence and repeat surgical procedure is significant, not to mention the burden on health care system.

We retrospectively reviewed our institute data for chronic sub-dural cases for the past 10years (2008-2018) and collected data on the demography, clinical features, metabolic workup, mode of treatment, recurrence rates, predisposing factors, laterality, hematoma characteristics and factors associated with recurrence in all cases with less than or equal to 18years of age.

A total of 30 such cases were found in a period of 10years (2008-2018). The mean patient age was 7.3years (range 2months-17years), with 20 males (66.67%) and 10 females (33.33%). As at least several thousands of XLH patients have been diagnosed, only several males and fewer females with mosaicism of PHEX gene were found. Here we describe an XLH girl with two de novo mosaic variants within the same site of PHEX gene. To rapidly screen all of the causative genes of hypophosphatemic rickets and rule out other diseases, DNA samples were initially analyzed using whole exome sequencing (WES). Interestingly, two different pathogenic mosaic variants, a known c.1809G > A(p.W603*) variant and a novel c.1809G > T(p.W603C) variant within the same site of PHEX gene, were identified in the proband by WES. Subsequent Sanger sequencing confirmed the presence and de novo pattern of these two mosaic variants in the proband, which were absent in her healthy parents. This is the first case to report two different mosaic variants of PHEX gene in an XLH individual. This XLH girl has a de novo mosaic genotype of c.1809 = /G > T/G > A in PHEX gene. Our report adds an unusual mocaicism case for XLH and expands the mutational event and spectrum of PHEX gene. Our report also alerts clinicians and geneticists to be cautious about mocaicism and detection methods.
To compare the CFR-PEEK plates with conventional plates in fracture fixation with regards to clinical and radiological outcomes and complications.

A systematic literature search was conducted in four online databases independently by two reviewers using the Cochrane methodology for systematic reviews. The identified relevant studies were assessed against predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria. Independent data extraction and assessment of risk of bias and study quality was carried out.

Nine studies (patient n = 361) out of 6594 records were included for analysis 2 RCTs (n = 63), 3 prospective cohort studies (n = 151), and 4 retrospective cohort studies (n = 147). Studies were grouped per anatomic area of fixation. Four studies (n = 200) examined fixation of proximal humerus fractures. Two studies (n = 74) examined fixation of distal radius fractures. Two studies (n = 53) assessed outcomes of fixation of distal femur fractures. One study (n = 87) assessed the outcomes of fixation of ankle fractures. All nine studies reported very high union rates (from 91% in distal femur to 100% in upper limb) for the CFR-PEEK plate groups and low complication rates. There was no significant difference in clinical outcomes, and rate of complications as compared to the conventional plate groups.

CFR-PEEK plates have high union rates in extremity fracture fixation similar to conventional plates with comparable good clinical outcomes and a very low and comparable rate of complications. Considering their advantages, CFR-PEEK plates seem to be valid alternative to conventional plating.

This article sheds light on the current situation of structured reporting in radiology private practice and provides information for the faltering implementation as well as perspective for individual potential solutions to overcome this situation.

In aging healthcare professionals, multiple stressors such as night work may affect life and work satisfaction and risk for chronic diseases (e.g. check details cardiovascular disease [CVD]). In this pilot study we compared workability, quality of life (QoL), and CVD risk markers between night shift and day workers.

We included 70hospital employees (mean age 52 ± 4 years, 91.4% female) 32rotating night shift workers (> 3 nights/month) and 38permanent day workers. In addition to sociodemographic, lifestyle, and sleep characteristics, we assessed i)workability index (WAI), ii)QoL (World Health Organization Quality of Life [WHOQOL-Bref]) and iii)CVD risk markers, i.e. carotid ultrasound measurements, and biomarkers (NTproBNP, CRP, IL‑6, LDL, ferritin, copper, zinc, and selenium). WAI, QoL, and CVD risk markers were compared between night and day workers. In asubgroup of participants (N = 38) with complete data, we used quantile regression analysis to estimate age and multivariate adjusted differences in biomarker levels.

We found no differences in the domains of QoL (physical health, psychological, social relationships, and environment) and WAI scores between night and day workers. Night shift workers were less likely to report excellent workability than day workers, although differences were not statistically significant. Night shift workers reported more sleep problems (73.1% vs. 55.6%) and tended to have lower zinc levels and higher inflammatory markers (CRP, IL‑6, ferritin), but differences were not significant after adjusting for potential confounders.

Due to high levels of stress, apractical course on stress management in medical school was offered to preclinical medical students at the Justus-Liebig University in Giessen up to 2019. In addition to autogenic training with specific resolution formulas, learning strategies, examination anxiety, and stress management were taught.

The aim was to determine the factors influencing the efficacy of the course as well as predictive factors favoring the success of preventive strategies for medical students.
