Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of mortality in the Indian subcontinent, accounting for 38% of deaths annually. One cardiovascular disease in particular, heart failure, is a growing public health problem both in India and worldwide.

Heart failure is a chronic, progressive disease with increasing rates of incidence and prevalence. This study was conducted to determine the influence of a nurse-led cardiac rehabilitation program on quality of life and biophysiological parameters in patients with chronic heart failure. In this study, it was hypothesized that participants in the cardiac rehabilitation program would report significantly more-positive changes in quality of life and biophysiological parameters than their peers who did not participate in this program.

In this randomized controlled trial, the participants were patients with chronic heart failure who had been admitted to a tertiary care hospital in India. Self-management is one of the vital elements in diabetes management for adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Although the number of people with T2DM in Indonesia has risen, clinical understanding of the problems related to practicing diabetes self-management (DSM) is limited because of the lack of a valid measurement instrument. The 35-item Diabetes Self-Management Instrument (DSMI-35) is one instrument widely used in research to assess DSM-related behavior among patients with diabetes.

This study was designed to translate the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of the DSMI-35 and evaluate the efficacy of this instrument in a sample of Indonesian adults with T2DM.

Forward and backward translation processes were used to translate the DSMI-35 into Indonesian (IDN-DSMI). Then, the translation equivalence, content validity, face validity, construct validity, and internal consistency were assessed using a sample of 222 Indonesian adults with T2DM from eight public health centers. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the data.

The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the 35 items all had acceptable goodness of fit. Although the analysis supported removing several of the items, removal of these items was not theoretically justified. The average variance extracted was acceptable, and composite reliability was satisfied. The Cronbach's alpha was .96 for the IDN-DSMI and .84-.93 for the subscales. The significant interitem correlations between some items were consistent with the findings of other previous studies.

The IDN-DSMI is a valid and reliable instrument that may be used to measure DSM behavior in Indonesian patients with T2DM in primary healthcare settings.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disorder with a variable course. The aim of our study was to find out whether cognitive event-related potentials are prognostic for patient disability at the 15-year follow-up.

In the observed cohort of patients with MS, we examined the event-related potentials at baseline (2003). Functional status (Expanded Disability Status Scale score) was then assessed 15 years later, and the prognostic model was developed using binary logistic regression analysis. The independent variables included demographic (age, sex, and education), clinical (disability in 2003), radiologic (MRI lesion load), and event-related potentials parameters. selleck compound The prognostic accuracy of the proposed model was evaluated by calculating the area under the receiver-operating characteristics curve.

The study sample consisted of 85 patients with MS. The mean age was 35.5 (SD, 11.2) years, and the median disability score was 3.0 (1-7) in 2003 and 5.0 (1.5-9.5) in 2018. The significant prognostic factors of poor Expanded Disability Status Scale are higher baseline Expanded Disability Status Scale, longer MS duration, and prolonged P300 latency. The sensitivity and specificity of the cutoff at 5.0 for the disability score were 94% and 89%, respectively, with the area under the receiver-operating characteristics curve 0.94 (95% confidence interval, 0.889-0.984; P < 0.001).
