Based on HRA assessment, although the risk levels were within permissible ranges, carcinogenic hazards attributable to Cr and Pb were not negligible. The results can aid in informed decision making and in implementing effective measures for managing risks associated with HMs in the OPC industry, thereby ameliorating threats to human health and environment. In this study, fluoride removal from polluted potable water using magnetic carbon-based adsorbents derived from agricultural biomass was thoroughly investigated. An experimental matrix is designed considering the interactive effects of independent process variables (pH, adsorbent dose, contact time, and initial fluoride concentration) on the removal efficiency. Isotherms and kinetics studies, as well as anions interactions, were also investigated to understand the adsorption mechanisms further. The model parameters of isotherms and kinetics are estimated using nonlinear differential evolution optimization (DEO). Approaches like adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and response surface methodology (RSM) are implemented to predict the fluoride removal and identify the optimal process values. The optimum removal efficiency of GAC-Fe3O4 (89.34%) was found to be higher than that of PAC-Fe3O4 (85.14%). Kinetics experiments indicated that they follow the intraparticle diffusion model, and adsorption isotherms indicated that they follow Langmuir and Freundlich models. Both PAC-Fe3O4 and GAC-Fe3O4 adsorbents have shown an adsorption capacity of 1.20 and 2.74 mg/g, respectively. The model predictions from ANFIS have a strong correlation with experimental results and superior to RSM predictions. The shape of the contours depicts the nonlinearity of the interactive effects and the mechanisms in the adsorption process.Bioconversion of organic waste by the black soldier fly (BSF) larva yields a by-product commonly known as 'frass'. Although BSF larval frass has often been marketed as a biofertilizer, few studies have evaluated this claim. BML-284 research buy In this study, BSF larvae reared on a pure okara diet achieved an 85% waste reduction in the fresh weight of the okara. Subsequently, the frass was mixed with soil at concentrations of 10, 20, and 30% (vol/vol), and used to cultivate lettuce plants. At 10% concentration, the lettuce plants had biomasses comparable to those of the controls. Higher frass concentrations stunted the growth of the lettuce, likely because of the low CN ratio of larval frass resulting from the rapid mineralization of nutrients. Larval frass was also found to be able to provide sufficient nutrients for lettuce growth as fertilizer application was only necessary after the first growth cycle, suggesting its suitability as a soil amendment. Analyses of the microbial community of all the growing media showed that the growth medium treatments with BSF larval frass tended to have a lower number of microbial species than the controls. Inherently higher micronutrient levels present in the frass resulted in the growth of lettuce plants. More importantly, the microbial analysis revealed that common foodborne pathogens were absent in the BSF larval frass and elemental analysis also indicated no heavy metal pollutants present. Overall, BSF larval frass was found to be a suitable soil amendment and more in-depth studies could facilitate its sensible use in agriculture. The degradation of four recalcitrant and toxic VOCs (volatile organic compounds) present in pharmaceutical wastewater was studied using a continuous flow plasma reactor, along with evaluating its potential for real effluent treatment. The wastewater was sprayed into the plasma zone of the reactor, and it was re-circulated for better performance. The effect of different HRTs (hydraulic retention time) and initial concentrations of VOCs on the degradation efficiency were evaluated. In continuous reactor, complete removal of 200 mg/L of chloroform, chlorobenzene, and toluene was achieved at a HRT of 33.3 min, with an energy consumption of 22.4 kWh/m3. The study on the effect of different inlet loading rates of VOCs on elimination capacity showed that, the removal was limited initially by diffusion of reactive species and at higher loads, it was limited by insufficient amount of reactive species produced. During degradation of VOC mixture, more than 90% removal of chloroform, chlorobenzene and toluene was achieved at HRT of 33.3 min, and the TOC removal was 78.3%. The degradation efficiency of VOC mixture reduced slightly compared to that of individual compounds, due to insufficient amount of reactive species produced. The COD and BOD removal achieved after 140 min of direct plasma treatment of real pharmaceutical wastewater in batch reactor was 92.7% and 95.2%, respectively. Coagulation pre-treatment did not have a significant effect on the plasma treatment of real wastewater. When pharmaceutical effluent treatment was carried out in continuous flow reactor, 91.8% COD removal, 90.9% BOD removal and more than 90% degradation of all VOCs were achieved at a HRT of 150 min. Plasma treatment alone was capable of effectively treating the real pharmaceutical wastewater without any pre-treatment.
In recent decades, there has been a call to foster effective collaborative models of practice between midwives and obstetricians/gynecologists (OB/GYNs) in the United States in order to improve clinician satisfaction and outcomes for childbearing women. Currently, there is no existing validated scale that measures the collaboration between obstetricians and midwives on labor and birth units. We sought to develop and validate a Midwifery- Obstetrics Collaboration (MOC) Scale that measures obstetricians' attitudes towards collaboration between obstetricians and midwives on labor and birth units.
Validation study. The items in the questionnaire to be validated were developed de novo by the authors, based on their experiences and expertise in collaborative practice as well as by incorporating key principles of effective collaborative practice documented in the literature. The questionnaire was then piloted among 13 content experts.
Anonymous online survey conducted in the United States.
We validated the questionnaire among 471 obstetricians in the United States from Sept 2019 to March 2020.
