How to Repair a Dead Car Key
Extreme heat or cold can sometimes cause the car to stop functioning. It is best to wait a few minutes before replacing it.
It's a real pain when your car keys break, and it happens at the most difficult times! There are several ways you can repair broken car keys that don't require the purchase of a new key.
Dead Key Fob Battery
Modern key fobs let us to open trunks, doors and tailgates without having to search to find a physical key. Some key fobs have an inbuilt key that can be used to start our cars. These fobs are powered by a tiny battery. If the battery is dead then the key fob cannot transmit the signal needed to turn on the vehicle. There are a variety of methods to fix a dead car key fob.
First, try to determine if the key fob is in fact dead. If it seems to be, then you'll have to replace the battery. You can do this yourself by disconnecting the fob from its clip or using a flat-head screwdriver. It is important not to apply too much force, or you could damage the fob. It's also important to be sure that you replace the correct battery type. Certain models may require a different battery. If you're unsure of the kind of battery your car needs the most common place to look is the information in the owner's manual or visit an Interstate All Battery Center to have a battery expert help you.
You can sometimes revive a key fob that isn't dead by moving it closer to the car. The majority of key fobs employ RFID (radio frequency identification) which operates within a narrow distance. The ignition system must be able detect the signal. You can unlock your car or even start it if you move a few inches closer.
Many car manufacturers have backup systems that can be activated when the battery of the key fob is low. Ford for instance has a slot which is dedicated to the key fob. If it is properly inserted, the key fob can be used to start the engine of the car. There are instructions in your owner's guide on how to locate the slot and insert the key fob correctly. If you are unable to start your car with this method, be sure to contact roadside assistance for assistance.

It is very easy to damage your key ring when you put too excessive pressure on it, particularly when carrying multiple keys. This can cause the key fob to split in half this is one of the most frequent causes of car keys breaking. key repair is possible to apply super glue on both sides of the crack and gently press them together to repair the issue. Quicksmith's team is available to assist you in the event that your key fob is damaged.
Broken Key Loop
One of my MK5 keysfobs snapped off the little key ring at the top, where it connects to the keyfob. It appears to be made of extremely soft metal or plastic. I've punched a hole and then wet-sanded the area to strengthen it, but I suspect the problem isn't resolved by this.
I've also tried wrapping the broken portion of the ring with clear tape, but it doesn't seem to do much good. It's really too bad because I use the little rings to hold my keys in place on the tiny mini-splitring that holds the larger split ring for the other keyfobs.
If the key fob case itself is broken It's usually possible to open up the case and replace the battery (assuming the battery isn't dead). Online kits are available however they are only a temporary solution. It may be quicker to have it repaired by a professional. You may also find the replacement case at the home improvement store or a locksmith. These cases aren't as expensive as a brand new key fob.
