MRI results were used as a reference standard for joint status. Pearson's r was used to assess correlation of other methods with MRI.
The correlation with MRI was the highest for US (r=.92), considerably higher than for clinical evaluation (r=.62) and patient's subjective assessment (r=.66). There was no correlation between the presence or degree of haemophilic arthropathy and any of the laboratory biomarkers.
The results of our study warrant the inclusion of US into the regular follow-up of patients with severe haemophilia, where the equipment and staffing permit.

To this end a Rh-catalyzed desymmetrization of dihydrosilanes by way of intramolecular C(sp2 )-H functionalization under simple and mild conditions has now been developed. This method provides easy access to a broad range of chiral monohydrosilanes in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99 % ee). The resulting monohydrosilanes constitute a good platform to access stereogenic silicon compounds, as well as useful compounds to probe silicon stereochemistry. The authors aimed to investigate the epidemiology of morning blood pressure (BP) surge (MBPS) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, and the interaction effect between MBPS and dipping status for target organ damage (TOD). A total of 823 non-dialysis CKD patients were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Subjects were grouped according to their systolic BP morning surge and dipping status, assessed by 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring. Patients with elevated MBPS had the highest quartile of MBPS (≥26.89 mm Hg). Non-dipping pattern was defined as a decline in the nocturnal systolic BP of .05). There was a statistically significant association between MBPS and the non-dipping pattern (OR 0.17, 95% CI 0.12-0.25; OR 0.92, 95% CI 0.91-0.93). Multiple linear regression analyses showed that excessive MBPS is an independent risk factor for poor renal function, independent of a non-dipping pattern, and BP level, whereas the non-dipping pattern was an important risk factor for left ventricular hypertrophy. Special attention should be paid to synchronous control of MBPS and nocturnal BP in CKD patients in clinical practice.Sexual selection can in theory lead to positive and negative effect on population-level fitness and hence population increase/decline in our changing world, but the empirical evidence is scarce. Using a phylogenetic comparative approach, we examined whether and how different sexually selected ornaments affect recent population trends and extinction risk in swallows (Aves Hirundininae). We found that population trends decreased with increasing depth of male tails, that is a well-known sexually selected trait, and increased with increasing score of reddish plumage coloration, another sexually selected ornament. Similar contrasting patterns were observed for extinction risk. These findings indicate ornament-specific population trends and extinction risk, perhaps due to the differential costs and benefits of ornamentation. Previous studies have mostly focused on the overall effects of sexual selection by combining different kinds of traits, presumed to be sexually selected. However, as predicted by theory, sexual selection would not be a process with the same universal effect on population dynamics as we found here. Divergent ecological consequences would occur through minor differences in sexual selection, which should not be dismissed in future studies.Liquid marbles are a promising microreactor platform that recently attracts significant research interest owing to their ability to accommodate a wide range of micro reactions. However, the use of destructive and ex-situ methods to monitor reactions impairs the potential of liquid-marble-based microreactors. This paper proposes a non-destructive, in situ, and cost-effective digital-imaging-based colourimetric monitoring method for transparent liquid marbles, using the enzymatic hydrolysis of starch as an illustrative example. The colourimetric reaction between starch and iodine produces a complex that exhibits a dark blue colour. We found that the absorbance of red channel of digital images showed a linear relationship with starch concentration with high sensitivity and repeatability. This digital-imaging-based colourimetric method was used to study the hydrolysis of starch by α-amylase. 4-MU research buy The results show high accuracy and applicability of first-order kinetics for this reaction. The demonstration of digital-imaging-based colourimetry indicates the potential of liquid marble-based microreactors. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to determine whether nocturnal blood pressure fall, expressed by dipping patterns according to ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), is a risk factor for cardiovascular events (CVEs) in untreated hypertensives. Α thorough systematic literature search at MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and gray literature was conducted through March 2020. Two reviewers screened studies and assessed dipping patterns of untreated hypertensives using ABPM with a follow-up >6 months. Newcastle-Ottawa scale was used for risk of bias assessment. We initially identified 463 reports; of which, seven cohort studies were eligible for meta-analysis enrolling 10 438 untreated hypertensives. Untreated patients classified as dippers at baseline (n = 7081) had significant lower risk of CVEs and total mortality compared to non-dippers (n = 3,357) [RR = 0.67, 95% CI (0.49, 0.92); RR = 0.71, 95% CI (0.59, 0.86)]. However, when patients were further classified into four dipping groups, only reverse dippers, yet not extreme dippers or non-dippers, were at increased risk for CVEs compared to dippers [RR = 0.47, 95% CI (0.33, 0.66)]. Likewise, only reverse dippers had a higher stroke risk than dippers [RR = 0.39, 95% CI (0.22, 0.72)]. When compared with the whole group of dippers (including extreme dippers), non-dipping alone (excluding reverse dipping) was not a significant risk factor for CVEs [RR = 0.84, 95% CI (0.61, 1.16)] or total mortality [RR = 0.84, 95% CI (0.61, 1.16); RR = 0.78, 95% CI (0.53, 1.13), respectively]. Untreated hypertensives may benefit more from the evaluation of reverse dipping rather than the non-dipping phenomenon in general.Klotho was involved in sodium reabsorption and the regulation of blood pressure. Animal studies indicated Klotho deficiency could mediate the development of salt-sensitive hypertension, indicating its correlation with salt sensitivity. We aimed to explore the responses of Klotho to salt intake through dietary intervention in Chinese adults. Forty-four participants were enrolled from Lantian county of Shaanxi, China. All participants sequentially underwent a 3-day normal diet, a 7-day low-Na+ diet, and a 7-day high-Na+ diet. The concentrations of serum Klotho were assessed by using ELISA kits. Serum level of Klotho was 360.44 ± 93.89 pg/mL at baseline and increased while changed to low-salt diet (478.65 ± 183.25 vs 360.44 ± 93.89 pg/mL, P less then .001). During high-salt diet, serum Klotho decreased to 354.37 ± 98.16 pg/mL (P less then .001, compared to low-salt diet). The overall responses of Klotho were more prominent in salt-resistant participants. Serum Klotho of salt-resistant group changed from 353.92 ± 97.65 pg/mL to 496.76 ± 196.21 pg/mL while changed from normal diet to low-salt diet (P less then .001) and decreased to 350.37 ± 99.50 pg/mL during high-salt intake (P less then .001). Furthermore, the response of serum Klotho to low-salt intervention was much greater in salt-resistant individuals than in salt-sensitive ones. The responses of serum Klotho to dietary salt intervention were influenced by salt sensitivity, which was more prominent in salt-resistant participants.High-mobility group protein A2 (HMGA2) is highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and contributes to tumor metastasis and poor patient survival. However, the molecular mechanism through which HMGA2 is transcriptionally regulated in HCC cells remains largely unclear. Here, we showed that the expression HMGA2 was upregulated in HCC, and that elevated HMGA2 could promote tumor metastasis. Incubation of HCC cells with epidermal growth factor (EGF) could promote the expression of HMGA2 mRNA and protein. Mechanistic studies suggested that EGF can phosphorylate p300 at Ser1834 residue through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in HCC cells. link2 Knockdown of p300 can reverse EGF-induced HMGA2 expression and histone H3-K9 acetylation, whereas a phosphorylation-mimic p300 S1834D mutant can stimulate HMGA2 expression as well as H3-K9 acetylation in HCC cells. Furthermore, we identified that p300-mediated H3-K9 acetylation participates in EGF-induced HMGA2 expression in HCC. In addition, the levels of H3-K9 acetylation positively correlated with the expression levels of HMGA2 in a chemically induced HCC model in rats and human HCC specimens.
Anthropometric data are associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) development and progression. We investigated whether the quantity and quality of muscle and visceral fat assessed by computed tomography (CT) are associated with fibrosis severity in NAFLD.
In a prospective biopsy-confirmed NAFLD cohort of 521 patients, we measured skeletal muscle index (SMI), muscle attenuation (MA) and visceral adipose tissue index (VATI) via CT. Low skeletal muscle mass (LSMM) was defined using previously validated cut-offs. Myosteatosis and visceral adiposity were defined as the lowest and highest quartile, respectively. link3 Significant fibrosis was defined as F2-F4 in liver histology.
Patients with significant fibrosis had lower SMI and MA and higher VATI than those without. The significant fibrosis prevalence was significantly higher in subjects with LSMM (45.1% vs 30.8%, P=.005), myosteatosis (46.1% vs 29.7%, P=.001) and visceral adiposity (46.9% vs 29.9%, P=.001) than those without. The significant fibrosis risk increased with increasing numbers of body composition components (24.5%, 35.6%, 53.0% and 72.7% in patients with 0, 1, 2 and 3 components respectively). Multivariable analysis revealed that LSMM (OR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.05-2.84), myosteatosis (OR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.01-2.68) and visceral adiposity (OR, 1.75; 95% CI, 1.09-2.83) were independent predictors of significant fibrosis. Subjects with sarcopenia had a higher risk of significant fibrosis (OR, 2.17; 95% CI, 1.03-4.56).
Muscle alterations and visceral adiposity assessed by CT are associated with significant fibrosis in NAFLD. LSMM and myosteatosis have additive values in prediction of significant fibrosis.

In this study, the response of Barbus capito to salinity-alkalinity exposure was explored by high-throughput nontargeted and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to investigate metabolic biomarker and pathway changes. Meanwhile, the biochemical indexes of Barbus capito were measured to discover the chronic impairment response to salinity-alkalinity exposures. A total of 29 tissue metabolites were determined to deciphering the endogenous metabolic changes of fishes during the different concentration salinity-alkalinity exposures environment, which were mainly involved in the key metabolism including the phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan biosynthesis, arachidonic acid metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, citrate cycle, and glycerophospholipid metabolism. Finally, we found the amino acid metabolism as key target was associated with the endogenous metabolites and metabolic pathways of Barbus capito to salinity-alkalinity exposures.
