Prognostic along with predictive significance of the tumor microenvironment in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Dill is an aromatic edible herb, belongs to the genus Anethum in the celery family (Apiaceae or Umbelliferae) with a long history of cultivation from ancient times and two closely related cultivated species, European dill (Anethum graveolens) and Indian dill (Anethum Sowa). We wanted to do this systematic review on the effect of Anethum graveolens intake on lipid profile because the outcomes of multiple research and meta-analyses in this regard were inconsistent. A systematic search for English published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) covering PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Coherence library. GPCR agonist The pooled weighted mean difference (MD) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated and pooled using a random-effects model. Pooled data of 6 RCTs involving 171 intervention cases indicated that dill supplementation was associated with a significant reduction in mean serum total cholesterol (MD 95% CI= -3.71(-5.71,-1.70); P less then 0.001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (MD 95% CI= -1.51(-2.65,-0.47); P = 0.005), TG (triglycerides) (MD 95% CI= -2.48(-3.98,-0.98); P = 0.001) and interestingly high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (HDL-C) (MD 95% CI= -2.19(-3.58,-0.81); P = 0.002). Subgroup analysis showed that dill use was more effective in lowering triglyceride in both hyperlipidemic patients, MD 95% CI= -3.54(-6.49,-0.60); P = 0.02) and type 2 diabetes (MD 95% CI= -3.64(-5.69,-1.58); P = 0.001). Dill use reduced the LDL levels more effectively in patients with type 2 diabetes (MD 95% CI= -3.54(-6.49,-0.60); P = 0.03). Dill supplementation significantly improved LDL-C, TG, and Total cholesterol (TC) levels but not HDL-C. Further high quality controlled clinical trials on human is needed for more accurate and confirm conclusion.Tachycardia in cardiogenic shock (CS) might reduce the cardiac output (CO) by decreasing the ventricular filling time. Nevertheless, heart rate (HR) control with agents that possess negative inotropy might decrease the CO. Therefore, controlling the tachycardia in the setting of CS remains controversial. We herein describe four cases of patients presenting with myocardial infarction complicated with CS that required rescue venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) initiation. Tachycardia was present with HR ∼130-140 beats per minute after VA-ECMO initiation, and hence esmolol was infused continuously at a starting dose of 10-20 mcg/kg/min and titrated according to HR. With the use of esmolol to control the HR in the setting of CS supported with VA-ECMO, lactate cleared, and echocardiographic parameters improved, allowing the four cases to be successfully decannulated from ECMO. Our report indicates that short-acting beta-blocker could be safely used in the complex scenario of severe tachycardia while supported with VA-ECMO.The objective of this study was to define coping style of sheep by using unsupervised machine learning approaches. A total of 105 Norduz sheep (age 3-5 years) were subjected to a 5-minute arena test. Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (HCA) was performed on scores of selected principal components retained from Principal Components Analysis (PCA) on arena behaviors to identify sheep coping style. Initially, the variables retained for the PCA were determined with Bartlett's test for sphericity and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sample adequacy. Seven behavioral variables with KMO values greater than 0.5 were used for final PCA the average distance to group sheep (DTG), the average distance to stimulus (DTS), the duration of locomotion (LOC), the total number of zone boundaries crossed during the test (CRS), the total number of times that tested sheep sniffed stimulus (NSS), latency to the first sniff the stimulus (LSS), and subjective scores (SCR) scored by an observer on a scale from 1 to 5 (1 extremeltyles in sheep may be identified based on behaviors recorded in an arena test. The findings also revealed that sheep's coping style can be objectively identified by unsupervised machine learning from unlabeled behavioral data.Bottlenose dolphin signature whistles are characterized by distinctive frequency modulation over time. The stable frequency contours of these whistles broadcast individual identity information. Little is known however, about whether or not the amplitude contour is also stereotyped. Here, we examined the relative amplitude-time contour of signature whistle emissions from eight bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program (MMP) in San Diego, CA. The results suggested that unlike the stable frequency-time contour, the amplitude-time contour of signature whistles were largely non-stereotyped, characterized by large variability across multiple whistle emissions. Relative amplitude was negatively related to log peak frequency, with more energy focused in the lower frequency bands. This trend was consistent over all eight dolphins despite having quite different signature whistle contours. This relationship led to the amplitude contours being slightly more stereotyped within than between dolphins. We propose that amplitude across signature whistle emissions may serve as an avenue for encoding additional communicative information. We encourage future studies to incorporate analyses of amplitude contours in addition to frequency contours of signature whistles in order to begin to understand what role it may play in the dolphin communication system.Oral exposure to mineral oil may result in a narrow fraction of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbon (MOSH) being retained in tissues. Excess of MOSH hepatic retention may lead to the formation of lipogranuloma caused by predominantly multiring cycloalkanes (naphthenics) in a critical range of C25-C35. Although hepatic lipogranuloma is of low pathological concern, MOSH tissue deposition could be minimized by using an oil of similar quality but devoid of naphthenic structures to decrease hepatic retention. Synthetic Gas to liquid (GTL) oils offer an alternative to petroleum derived mineral oils, because they do not contain naphthenic structures. To demonstrate this point, SD rats were fed either GTL oil (99% iso-alkanes) or naphthenic mineral oil (84% cycloalkanes) at 200 mg/kg bw/day for 90 or 134 days with a recovery group. Liver, fat and mesenteric lymph nodes were analyzed for alkane sub-type levels using Online-HPLC-GC-FID and GCxGC-TOF-MS. Results indicate that at equal external dose, GTL hydrocarbons result in lower tissue levels and more rapid excretion than MOSH. GTL retained hepatic fractions were also qualitatively different than MOSH constituents. Because chemical composition differences, GTL oil show low absorption and tissue retention potential and thus an advantageous alternative to conventional mineral oil.
We aimed to assess the association between early onset of affective disorders and hypothyroidism in a larger number of psychiatric drug-free patients with bipolar disorder (BD) or major depressive disorder (MDD).

Early onset of affective disorders was defined as BD and MDD developed before the age of 22 years. The hypothyroidism hierarchy were diagnosed biochemically and included subclinical and overt hypothyroidism in this study. Demographic and clinical data including diagnosis, illness duration and thyroid function parameters (TSH, T4, FT4, T3 and FT3) at admission were collected from patients' records. Adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI), which were estimated by logistic regression model, were used to assess the association between early-onset affective disorder and hypothyroidism.

The prevalence of hypothyroidism in early-onset affective disorders was higher than that in late-onset patients (in BD, 9.4% vs. 6.2%, χ
=6.020, P=0.014; and in MDD 12.7% vs. 6.6%, χ
=13.295, P<0.001). Early-onset affective disorders were 2.097 times (95% CI 1.409-3.123) more likely to have hypothyroidism compared with late-onset patients, after adjustment for age, gender, duration of illness and mood episode (adjusted OR 1.965, 95% CI 1.198-3.221 in BD, and adjusted OR 2.831, 95% CI 1.378-5.817 in MDD, respectively).

Because of the cross-sectional design of this study, we were unable to sort out causality between early-onset affective disorders and hypothyroidism.

Early-onset affective disorder may be associated with higher prevalence of hypothyroidism.

Few studies have examined the associations between changes in depressive symptoms and handgrip strength in older people. This study aimed to examine the magnitude of the association between depressive symptoms over 2 years and weak handgrip strength on the 4 years of follow-up.

We conducted a longitudinal study using data from the English Longitudinal Study of Aging, a nationally representative panel survey of older adults in England. Data were derived from waves 4 (2008-2009), 5 (2010-2011), and 6 (2012-2013). A total of 5,080 participants were included in the analysis. Depressive symptoms were dichotomized using the eight-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale in waves 4 and 5 and were regarded as the exposure. Handgrip strength measurements objectively measured in wave 6 were dichotomized according to the 25th percentile of the British norm and used as the outcome. The targeted maximum likelihood estimation model was utilized to assess time-variant depressive symptoms on handgrip strength, adjusted for time-variant and time-invariant covariates.

The maintenance of non-depressive symptoms (relative risk [RR], 0.72; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.59-0.87) or improvement of depressive symptoms (RR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.55-0.91) had a protective effect on weak handgrip strength compared with the persistence of depressive symptoms.

This study is not a randomized control trial but a longitudinal observational study, indicating that our study finding may still have been affected by unknown confounders.

Our findings suggest the importance of managing depressive symptoms to prevent poor physical function.

To examine recent modality utilization trends in accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) in the National Cancer Database (NCDB) based on the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) guidelines.

A total of 58,194 patients treated with APBI were identified. Patients were segregated by APBI modality (brachytherapy, external beam radiotherapy [EBRT], and intraoperative radiotherapy ([IORT]). These patients were then further classified by suitability to receive APBI based on ASTRO guidelines. Temporal trends in utilization were evaluated using linear regression. Logistic regression was applied to study factors contributing to APBI modality choice and treatment within the ASTRO suitability groups.

Patients treated with brachytherapy, EBRT, and IORT comprised 70.5%, 17.5%, and 12.0% of patients treated with APBI. From 2008 to 2017, total APBI cases remained relatively stable (-54.1 cases/year, p=0.161) while brachytherapy cases decreased by 258.7 cases/year (p<0.001). EBRT and IORT increased by 51.
