CCHF RT-LAMP assay can be used in low resource laboratories for monitoring of CCHFV outbreaks in remote rural regions in affected countries.The potential spillover of foot and mouth disease (FMD) virus at the wildlife-livestock interface is mainly responsible for the outbreaks in captive wild ungulates. The current study was planned to investigate an FMD outbreak in the wild ungulate species in the Jallo Wildlife Park and breeding facility, Lahore, Pakistan from Mar 2021- Jun 2021. The disease was confirmed based on ELISA through the detection of antibodies against the non-structural protein of FMD virus and typical clinical signs of oral and feet lesions, and even partial or complete hoof shedding in severe cases. To investigate the possible cause of FMD spillover and its pattern, a series of interviews were conducted with wildlife practitioners, animal handlers, and the local veterinarians in villages adjacent to the park. The data revealed neither vaccination nor any FMD outbreak in the last 10 years. The epidemic curve and time-series analysis showed a mixed outbreak characterized by the introduction of disease and then propagative spread from infected to susceptible animals. After the first reports of clinical signs in Blackbuck, Urial and Mouflon sheep were infected while in the end, the cases were reported from the enclosures of Sambar deer and Spotted deer. The morbidity rate among all the wild ungulate species was 92% and the mean mortality rate was 27%. The study concluded that possible sources for primary disease incidence might be animal handlers having FMD infected animals in their houses and transport vehicles coming from adjacent disease-affected villages. For the disease spread between enclosures, another possibility of wind-borne FMD virus spread could also be considered. This is the first report regarding the FMD outbreak and its spillover pattern in captive wild ungulates in Pakistan. These findings will be helpful in understanding the importance of wildlife livestock interface in FMD transmission and to design effective strategies to control the disease.Ticks represent a major source of growing economic and public health concern, especially in the tropics and sub-tropics. Towards evidencing ticks' invasion in the North and North-Western parts of Egypt, the present study aimed to investigate the morpho-molecular aspects of those ectoparasites using stereomicroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and sequencing of the mitochondrial 16S ribosomal DNA gene (rDNA) and nuclear second internal transcribed spacer (ITS2). Children with a history of regressed retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) are at increased risk of peripheral avascular retina. Wide-field digital retinal imaging and telemedicine is an effective tool for ROP screening. Ophthalmologists and Optometrists should have a high level of clinical suspicion for peripheral retinal changes in children screened for ROP.
Retinopathy of prematurity, a vaso-proliferative disorder of the pre-term retina, is a preventable cause of childhood visual impairment. The Auckland Regional Telemedicine ROP (ART-ROP) network, established in 2006, utilises wide-field digital imaging and telemedicine to screen at-risk infants for ROP. This prospective observational study reports the long-term ocular outcomes of ART-ROP network infants.
A comprehensive paediatric eye examination including cycloplegic autorefraction and wide-field retinal imaging was completed on all participants. Participants had been screened for ROP by the ART-ROP network between May 2008 and October 2011.

Further research is required into the long-term implication of persistent avascular retina in regressed ROP.Resistance to the soilborne fungal pathogen Rhizoctonia solani AG-8 is desirable in adapted wheat and barley but remains an elusive trait for prebreeders and breeders. In a previous study, we observed that emergence and root growth was faster in the Rhizoctonia-susceptible 'Scarlet' than in its resistant counterpart, 'Scarlet-Rz1'. The objective of the current study was to quantify early root growth rate and total root length in resistant and susceptible synthetic hexaploid wheat lines, including parental lines and 22 recombinant inbred lines derived crosses between parental lines. In Petri dish assays, the susceptible lines displayed a faster rate of root growth during the first 40 h of root emergence compared with resistant lines. This growth differential was observed in 14-day and 48-h greenhouse assays, in which the total root length of susceptible parental lines was significantly (P less then 0.05) greater than that of resistant parental lines. However, the resistant lines sustained less root loss compared with susceptible lines when R. solani AG-8 was present in the soil. Early root growth rate and total root length were not correlated to freezing tolerance in a set of wheat cultivars selected for cold tolerance. The findings indicated that early root growth was negatively correlated to R. solani AG-8 damage in resistant synthetic wheat lines developed for the Pacific Northwest, United States, and suggested that the dynamics of root emergence affect resistance to this soilborne pathogen.
Pain after breast cancer surgery is a common and disabling problem. A reliable and valid questionnaire to assess pain-related disability is the Pain Disability Index (0-70). However, properties of the Dutch version (PDI-DLV) have never been investigated in this population.
To assess psychometric properties of the PDI-DLV after breast cancer surgery.
For reliability, relative and absolute reliability were calculated with a one-week test-retest interval, as well as internal consistency. Moreover, content and construct validity were examined to evaluate validity.
One hundred twenty-three women were included. Relative reliability was good (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.80). Standard error of measurement and minimal detectable change (absolute reliability) were 5.57 and 15.45 points, respectively. The mean difference between two measurements was -1.98 points, with 95% limits of agreement equal to 13.19 and -17.15. The within-subjects coefficient of variation was 59%. Internal consistency was confirmed (α=0.87). The PDI-DLV was scored as understandable and complete (content validity). Construct validity was supported by confirmation of more than 75% of the tested hypotheses and of the one-factor model.

Although absolute reliability is disputable, its good relative reliability allows evaluating changes between subjects.Epicutaneous exposure to protein allergens, such as papain, house dust mite (HDM), and ovalbumin (OVA), represents an important mode of sensitization for skin diseases including protein contact dermatitis, immunologic contact urticaria, and atopic dermatitis. These diseases are inducible by re-exposure to an allergen at both original skin sensitization and distant skin sites. In this study, we examined the serum IgE/IgG1 response, differentiation of T-helper (TH) cells, and epicutaneous TH recall response in mice pre-sensitized with protein allergens through the back skin and subsequently challenged on the ear skin. Repeated epicutaneous sensitization with allergenic proteins including papain, HDM, OVA, and protease inhibitor-treated papain, but not bovine serum albumin, induced serum allergen-specific antibody production, passive cutaneous anaphylaxis responses, and TH2 differentiation in the skin draining lymph node (DLN) cells. Sensitization with papain or HDM, which have protease activity, resulted in the differentiation of TH17 as well as TH2. In papain- or HDM-sensitized mice, a subsequent single challenge on the ear skin induced the expression of TH2 and TH17/TH22 cytokines. These results suggest that allergenic proteins induce the differentiation of TH2 in skin DLN cells and an antibody response. These findings may be useful for identifying proteins of high and low allergenic potential. Moreover, allergenic proteins containing protease activity may also differentiate TH17 and induce TH2 and TH17/TH22 recall responses at epicutaneous challenge sites. This suggests that allergen protease activity accelerates the onset of skin diseases caused by protein allergens.Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent type of degenerative joint disease, and its pathological progression is highly associated with oxidative stress. Natural antioxidants can attenuate oxidative stress and chondrocyte injury, suggesting that antioxidants have potential applications in the management of OA. Ellagic acid (EA), a natural polyphenol derived from fruits or nuts, exerts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in diseases related to oxidative stress. Herein, we investigated the effects of EA on interleukin-1β (IL-1β)-induced oxidative stress and degeneration in C28/I2 human chondrocytes. EA efficiently suppressed IL-1β-induced oxidative stress and ameliorated oxidative stress-induced dysfunction of chondrocytes, as indicated by the promotion of cartilage matrix secretion. Moreover, EA remarkably suppressed cell apoptosis and senescence, and reduced the expression of proinflammatory factors and metalloproteinases, suggesting that EA could alleviate chondrocyte injury under oxidative stress. Mechanistically, EA upregulated the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) as well as its downstream targets NADPH quinone oxidoreductase 1 and heme oxygenase-1.
