In in vivo studies, we found that hindlimb motor function was significantly improved in SCI rats with systemic administration of BMSCs-derived exosomes. We also observed that the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins and pro-inflammatory factors was significantly decreased, while the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins and anti-inflammatory factors were upregulated in SCI rats after exosome treatment. In conclusion, BMSCs-derived exosomes can inhibit apoptosis and inflammation response induced by injury and promote motor function recovery by inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, which suggests that BMSCs-derived exosomes are expected to become a new therapeutic strategy for SCI.Familiarity is important for persons living with dementia who participate outside home. When familiarity is challenged, such participation may be difficult. This ethnographic study clarifies how familiarity is experienced by persons with dementia in performing activities and visiting places, and how familiarity contributes to maintaining participation outside home. Nine participants were interviewed in their home and while visiting familiar places. Data were content analysed using a constant comparative method. The findings suggest that persons with dementia experience familiarity as continuous and whole, through occurrences that support personal territories. Landmarks and objects enhance the experience of familiarity. Familiarity that is continuously challenged may render participation outside home fragile.Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is a toxic chemical that causes liver injury. CCl4 triggers endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and unfolded protein response (UPR). UPR triggers autophagy to deal with the damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of baicalein, derived from Scutellaria baicalensis, on CCl4-induced liver damage concerning ER stress and autophagy. Two groups of Wistar albino rats (n = 7/groups) were treated with 0.2 ml/kg CCl4 for 10 days with and without baicalein. Histological and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, autophagy, and ER stress markers measurements were carried out to evaluate the effect of baicalein. Histological examinations showed that baicalein reduced liver damage. TEM analysis indicated that baicalein inhibited ER stress and triggered autophagy. CCl4-induced elevation of C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP), glucose-regulating protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), inositol requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1), pancreatic ER kinase (PERK), and active/spliced form of X-box-binding protein 1 (XBP1s) ER stress markers were decreased by baicalein. Baicalein also increased the autophagy-related 5 (ATG5), Beclin1, and Microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3-phosphatidylethanolamine-conjugated form (LC3-II) autophagy marker levels. In conclusion, baicalein reduced the CCl4-induced liver damage by inhibiting ER stress and the trigger of autophagy.Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is characterized by raised intracranial pressure of unknown origin that primarily afflicts obese women of childbearing age. There are several treatment options, but currently there are none that are effective for the entire affected population. The lack of a universally effective treatment is related to an incomplete understanding of the etiology of the condition and the lack of a well-defined pathophysiological mechanism for the disease process. Classically, IIH has been thought of as a diagnosis of exclusion once radiographical imaging has ruled out all other causes of elevated intracranial pressure. selleck chemicals Today, we know that imaging does capture subtle changes, and might provide keys to finally understand the pathogenesis of IIH so that a definitive treatment can be discovered or developed. Recently, advancements in radiography, optical coherence tomography, and electroretinography have shown promise for the future of IIH evaluation. A topic within IIH imaging that has recently sparked interest is the possibility that the severity of papilledema may have an association with the size of the optic canal. In this article, we also discuss the recent studies on the relationship between asymmetric papilledema and optic canal size. The study aimed to develop and test the Coronary Artery Disease Empowerment Scale in Korea and assess its initial aspects of validity and reliability. The participants included 301 patients diagnosed with coronary artery disease, receiving regular outpatient and inpatient care. Data were collected from August to December 2019. The exploratory factor analysis resulted in extracting 25 items and three factors-self-determination, emotional self-regulation, and personal competence of disease management perception-with a cumulative explanatory power of 55.40%. A significant correlation was found between the Korean versions of the Cardiac Self-efficacy Scale (r = .31, p less then .001) and the Health Empowerment Scale (r = .45, p less then .001). The internal consistency reliability of all items was .93. The developed instrument can be used to evaluate empowerment in patients with coronary artery disease and identify an improved instrument to measure empowerment. However, further testing of the newly developed Coronary Artery Disease Empowerment Scale is required.
Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) are a heterogenous group of hereditary and acquired disorders that are characterized by excessive epidermal thickening of the palms and/or soles. PPK has been described as a rare adverse event for some medications. The aim of this systematic review was to summarize outcomes in PPK associated with various medications. This data will assist dermatologists and other healthcare providers treating patients with drug-induced PPK.
EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were searched in accordance with PRISMA guidelines using the keyword "palmoplantar keratoderma." 40 studies met the inclusion criteria.
A total of 247 patients (mean age 57.0 years) were included in the analysis. Among patients whose sex was reported, 60.3% (
= 35/58) were male. PPK most frequently developed after treatment with BRAF inhibitors (73.7%,
= 182/247), BRAF inhibitors combined with MEK1/2 inhibitors (15.4%,
= 38/247), tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) (3.2%,
= 8/247), or chemotherapy (2.4%,
= 6/247).
