Her past medical history included neurofibromatosis, which resulted in a severe anterior slope of the right knee, limb shortening, and congenital pseudarthrosis. She was diagnosed with severe anterolateral osteoarthritis and eburnation of the right knee that was treated surgically with a lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Bone and cartilage fragments were removed from the joint space and a UKA implant (Zimmer®) with dimensions of 29 mm × 50 mm was inserted. Perioperative imaging revealed that the procedure resulted in the correction of the valgus deformity. Pain was reduced and the patient was able to walk for 10 meters with support during the immediate postoperative period. One week post-surgery, the patient sustained an oblique tibial fracture that extended from the medial edge of the implant to the medial slope of the proximal tibia. This complication may have been attributed to large implant size or sagittal overcutting. The fracture was treated surgically with a rotated anterolateral locking plate (A.L.P.S®) inserted into the distal tibia. The patient was capable of ambulation at full weight load at two months after the second procedure. It is critical to recognize that there are no standard protocols that can be used to guide the treatment of neurofibromatosis-induced osteoarthritis. The specific preoperative condition of the individual patient plays a large role in determining the appropriate treatment option. In this case, the availability of custom-fitted UKA implants might have improved outlook, we understand that these devices are costly and may not be available at all hospitals. However, we strongly believe that the "gold standard" in these cases is patient-specific treatment that addresses the issues of the highest concern using the resources that are available at that time.Infectious and traumatic corneal diseases require adequate therapy against infection and promote re-epithelialization. Such variations are commonly appreciated during surgical procedures involving the hand or during routine cadaver dissection. The index finger has two independent extensor tendons, and in some cases, has lower incidence of anomalous variations than other extensor tendons. We found muscular variant of extensor indicis proprius (EIP) during a cadaver dissection while teaching medical anatomy students at Addis Ababa University Black lion Specialized and Teaching Hospital, 2018. While dissecting of right hand of unknown age male cadaver, proper tendons attaching to the indicis finger are present and anomalous muscle, the so named extensor indicis brevis, was observed. The muscle originates from ulnar styloid process and inserted as a single tendon to the base of proximal phalanx of index finger. Attention is needed during surgical procedures like tendon reconstruction because anatomical variation of EIB may affect a surgical procedure.
Unsuppressed viral load in patients on antiretroviral (ARV) therapy occurs when treatment fails to suppress a patient's viral load, and is associated with decreased survival and increased HIV transmission. Identifying the level of unsuppressed viral load with its associated factors has benefits in controlling transmission and reducing burden. click here Therefore, this study aimed to assess unsuppressed viral load (>1,000 copies/mL) and associated factors among HIV patients taking first-line antiretroviral treatment at public health facilities in Jimma, Ethiopia.

A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 669 patients on first-line ARV therapy (at least 6 months) in public health facilities in Jimma. Sociodemographic, treatment, clinical, immunological, and viral load data were extracted from medical records, entered into EpiData 3.1, and analyzed with SPSS 20. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors independently associated with viral nonsuppression, considering agies of targeted interventions for patients in care who are at high risk of unsuppressed viral load.
Intestinal parasites are endemic in many regions of the world where Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) patients are prevalent. This study aimed to assess the extent of intestinal parasitic infection (IPI) and predisposing factors among HIV positive patients visiting Nekemte Specialized Hospital, Western Ethiopia.

A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted among HIV positive patients and HIV negative controls who visited Nekemte Specialized Hospital from April to August 2020. A structured questionnaire was used to collect socio-demographic and risk-factor data. Stool samples and blood were collected and tested. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.

The occurrence of IPIs was considerably higher (73.3%) among HIV positive subjects compared to HIV negative controls (22.7%). Rate of infection with IPI was higher in individuals with CD4+ T cell count < 200 cells/μL. The species-specific distribution of parasites among HIV positive was higher for
