Therefore, antioxidant therapy for pregnant women should be considered carefully.SIGNIFICANCE Senescence is a cellular state induced by internal or external stimuli, which result in cell cycle arrest, morphological changes, dysfunctions in mitochondria and lysosome functionality as well as senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Senescent cells accumulate in tissues in physiological and pathological conditions such as development, tissue repair, aging and cancer. Recent Advances Growing evidences indicate that senescent cells in vivo are a heterogeneous cell population, due to different cell autonomous activated pathways and distinct microenvironmental contexts. CRITICAL ISSUES In this review we discuss the different contexts where senescence assumes a key role with beneficial or harmful outcomes. The heterogeneous nature of senescence pushes toward the resolution of the specific molecular profile and secretome to typify senescent cells in physiological and pathological contexts. FUTURE DIRECTIONS Future research will enable exploring the heterogeneity of senescence population to precisely map the progression of cells through senescent trajectories and study the impact of therapeutic advantage of senolytic drugs for translational strategies towards supporting healthspan.Sinonasal inverted papilloma is a benign lesion that occurs in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Here, we present a rare case of an inverted papilloma that completely obstructed the anterior nasal orifice.Objectives Health literacy refers to an individual's capacity to access, understand, evaluate and use health information to make well informed health-related decision to maintain and promote optimal health. Low health literacy is linked with worse health outcomes and is more common in people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and among people with limited education. Peri-menopausal and postmenopausal health behaviour predicts health in later life. This qualitative study was conducted in Melbourne, Australia. The aim of this study was to explore menopause-related health literacy and experiences with menopause-related health care among Vietnamese-born women who had immigrated to Australia as adults.Design A qualitative study using semi-structured interviews was conducted with women aged between 45 and 60 years and who were either in the peri or postmenopausal phase. Transcripts were analysed thematically.Results A total of 12 women were interviewed. Participants viewed menopause as a natural event and obtained most of their menopause-related information from family and friends. Limited English language proficiency affected their capacity to access, understand, evaluate and use menopause-related health information. They identified their Vietnamese speaking General Practitioners (GPs) as a reliable source of health information, but 'shyness' prevented them from asking questions about menopause and they suggested that GPs need to initiate menopause-related health conversations.Conclusion Low menopause-related health literacy among Vietnamese-born immigrant women may limit their opportunities to access information about and benefit from menopause-related health-promoting behaviours. Access to menopause-related health information in relevant community languages is essential to support immigrant women to make well informed menopause-related health decisions.PURPOSE The aim of this study is to compare the outcomes of micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation between primary open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, and other types of secondary glaucoma. METHODS Outcomes of 96 consecutive patients with refractory, end-stage glaucoma treated with micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation were retrospectively reviewed. Follow-up examinations were performed on a regular basis until 12 months postoperatively. Surgical successes were defined as maintaining intraocular pressure ⩽18 mmHg and ⩾20% reduction in intraocular pressure (criteria A), ⩽15 mmHg intraocular pressure and ⩾25% reduction in intraocular pressure (criteria B), and ⩽12 mmHg intraocular pressure and ⩾30% reduction in intraocular pressure from baseline (criteria C). RESULTS Ninety-six eyes of 96 patients (50 (52%) females, 46 (48%) males) were included. Among all eyes, 32 were primary open-angle glaucoma, 30 were pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, and 34 were other types of secondary glaucoma. The mean age was 59.37 ± 11.45 (range 20-91) years. The mean follow-up period was 14.2 ± 3.9 (range 12-16) months. At 12 months, the success rates of primary open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, and secondary glaucoma group were 68.75%, 66.6%, and 64.7% (p = 0.185) for criteria A; 56.25%, 53.3%, and 50% (p = 0.153) for criteria B; and 43.75%, 43.3%, and 38.2% (p = 0.146) for criteria C. Four patients (12.5%) in primary open-angle glaucoma group, 5 patients (16.6%) in pseudoexfoliation glaucoma group, and 14 (41.2%) patients in other secondary glaucoma group required reoperation during the follow-up (p  less then  0.05). CONCLUSION Micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation is an equally effective method of lowering intraocular pressure in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma, and other types of secondary glaucoma. The rate of reoperation was higher in refractory secondary glaucoma patients.
