Upgrades can boost the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used one time; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a type of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascending equipment, as as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players create stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. They can be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or buying them in the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of an item will be revealed at the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process could be costly and there is a high possibility that the item will be obsolete or even break when it fails; a failed upgrade will cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough points are earned, the upgrade can be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When a player improves a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced by the new item. This means that the same armor piece will become the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can increase in price even if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced by a brand new one that has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This can be beneficial but it should not be repeated often since it can waste resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives a buff if the player repeatedly enters or leaves the water. This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the maximum roll by 10 points. This item is extremely important in PvP. A properly rolled version could be worth up to 50x the value of the unupgraded counterpart.

The upgrade of items allows players to upgrade the level of their equippable gear--armor, weapons and trinkets above ilvl 385--by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC that upgrades items. The upgrade of armor set pieces will also increase the base defense of the item, and upgrading weapons will increase the damage base as well as the required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded up to five times except for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Each time you upgrade an item it is given an opportunity to fail. The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it receives a crit chance boost, the increase will be applied prior to any attack damage increases. Slots is a brand new attribute that has been added to the definitions of items. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots.
