Two experiments were designed to determine the effect of expression of estrus or GnRH treatment on pregnancies per embryo transfer (P/ET) and pregnancy losses in beef recipients that were synchronized with estradiol/progesterone based protocols for fixed-time embryo transfer (FTET). Experiment 1 evaluated the effect of expression of estrus and GnRH treatment in the absence of estrus on P/ET. Beef cows (n = 729) were treated with 2 mg estradiol benzoate (EB) and an intravaginal device containing 0.5 g of progesterone. Devices were removed 8 d later and all cows received prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), 400 IU eCG, and 0.5 mg estradiol cypionate (ECP) at that time. this website Expression of estrus was determined at 48 and 56 h after device removal using tail-paint and cows that did not show positive signs of estrus by 48 h received GnRH or no treatment at random. The overall estrus rate was 76.0% (554/729); 68.0% had positive signs of estrus by 48 h after progesterone device removal and 28.0% of those not in estrus by 48 h showe was greater in the ECP group (90.5% vs. 83.5%; P = 0.03), P/ET did not differ (ECP 37.0% and J-Synch 39.0%; P = 0.43). Overall, 88.0% (357/407) of the recipients synchronized showed estrus and a greater P/ET (P = 0.05) was found in the recipients that showed estrus (39.0%) vs. those that did not show estrus (26.0%), regardless of treatment group. Pregnancy losses were lower (P = 0.004) and the calving rate was higher (P = 0.01) in recipients that showed estrus (25.0% and 29.3%, respectively) than in those that did not (88.8% and 2.9%, respectively). In summary, expression of estrus was associated with a greater P/ET in recipients treated with two different estradiol/P4-based synchronization protocols. The expression of estrus was associated with a greater proportion of recipients receiving embryos, P/ET and calving rate. Treatment with GnRH did not improve P/ET in the recipients that did not show estrus, questioning the its use in recipients synchronized with estradiol/progesterone based FTET protocols.
Short total sleep time (TST<6h) is a strong major health determinant that correlates with numerous metabolic, cardiovascular and mental comorbidities, as well as accidents. Our aim was to better understand, at a population level, how adults adapt their TST during the week, and how short sleepers and those with sleep debt and sleep restriction use napping or catching up on sleep during weekends (ie, sleep debt compensation by sleeping longer), which may prevent these comorbidities.

A large representative sample of 12,367 subjects (18-75 years old) responded by phone to questions about sleep on a national recurrent health poll (Health Barometer, Santé Publique France 2017) assessing sleep schedules (TST) at night, when napping, and over the course of a 24-h period while using a sleep log on workdays and weekends. Retained items were (1) short sleep (TST≤6h/24h); (2) chronic insomnia (international classification of sleep disorders third edition, ICSD-3 criteria); (3) sleep debt (self-reported ideal TST -ys affected about one third of adults in our study group. Napping and weekend catch-up sleep only compensated for severe sleep debt in one in four subjects.
Short sleep, sleep debt, and sleep restriction during weekdays affected about one third of adults in our study group. Napping and weekend catch-up sleep only compensated for severe sleep debt in one in four subjects.A sustainable biochar strategies on increasing crop yield and mitigating CH4 emissions over successive years is unknown. Thus, on-site equivalent rice straw biochar-returning (ERSC, biochar at 2.8 t ha-1 annual) were compared with on-site equivalent rice straw- returning (RS, rice straw at 8 t ha-1 annual) and high application rate biochar-returning (RSCH, biochar at 22.5 t ha-1 only in the first year). The RS and RSCH treatments increased rice production by 10.1% and 11.8% on average, respectively. The ERSC treatment continually increased rice production by 8.0%, 1.6% and 7.3% in three successive years. The ERSC treatment had a cumulative effect on the soil nutrients phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and magnesium (Mg), as well as increasing total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) and continuously reducing the effect of soil available aluminum (Al). The RS treatment significantly promoted CH4 emissions while the ERSC treatment reduced methane emissions by 43%, 31% and 30% and the RSCH treatment reduced methane emissions by 52%, 22% and14% in three successive years. Compared with RSCH, ERSC showed the best long-term stable effect on methane emission mitigation in three successive years. This might result from the fact that fresh biochar promoted anaerobic oxidation of methane. This research gives us scientific evidence that an on-site equivalent rice straw biochar-returning strategy may be a promising method for sustaining rice production and mitigating methane emissions.Although phagocytosis serves as the front line to attack invading pathogens, its low bacterial encounter and killing rates leads to an ineffective bactericidal output. In view of this, developing multifunctional theranostic probe to effectively discriminate and ablate intracellular bacteria is highly desirable. However, the shielding effect of the host macrophages put the detection and elimination of macrophage-engulfed bacteria into a challenging task. Herein, we utilize a luminogen with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristics, namely TTVP, as a simple and effective probe for simultaneous tracing and photodynamic killing of intracellular Gram-positive bacteria. With the help of the AIE property, excellent water solubility, near-infrared (NIR) emission and strong reactive oxygen species (ROS) generating ability, TTVP performed ideally to be a targeting agent to intracellular Gram-positive bacteria with high signal contrast, as well as to be a photosensitizer to effectively ablate intracellular bacteria without attacking host macrophages. This work thus provides insights for the next generation antibiosis theranostic application for potential clinical trials.
The neurophysiological processes involved in the generation of medically-unexplained symptoms (MUS) remain unclear. This study tested three assumptions of the perception-filter model contributing to MUS (I.) increased bodily signal strength (II.) decreased filter function, (III.) increased perception.

In this cross-sectional, observational study, trait MUS were assessed by a web-based survey (N=486). The upper and lower decile were identified as extreme groups of high (HSR; n=29; 26 women; M
=26.0years) and low symptom reporters (LSR; n=29; 21 women; M
=28.4years). Mean heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV), and cortisol awakening response (CAR) were assessed as indicators of bodily signal strength (I.). Heartbeat-evoked potentials (HEPs) were assessed during rest and a heartbeat perception task. HEPs reflect attentional resources allocated towards heartbeats and served as index of filter function (II.). Interoceptive accuracy (IAc) in heartbeat perception was assessed as an indicator of perception (III.
