Central atonic seizures started in the rear temporoparietal region: A case statement.
The author argues against neuropsychoanalysis by focusing on the metaphysical issues. Neuropsychoanalysts argue that the philosophical theories of dual aspect monism (DAM) and anomalous monism support their position. The author contends that not only do DAM and anomalous monism not offer support for neuropsychoanalysis; they are also inconsistent with its claims. The conceptual distinction between the mental and the physical - the so-called "epistemological dualism" cited by neuropsychoanalysis-stands as an insurmountable barrier to the project of neuropsychoanalysis. By way of example, the author offers an analogy with artworks. The author concludes the paper by arguing that neuropsychoanalysis deflects from the real project of psychoanalysis, which is the study of persons, not so-called "mindbrains."The unique conditions and characteristics of listening in psychoanalysis are introduced in relation to an effort to define how psychoanalysis proceeds "beyond psychotherapy." Using an example from Freud's self-analysis, the author explores the tenet that every psychoanalytic session is to be treated like a dream. Freud's prescriptions for the method of listening psychoanalytically are critically discussed and the idea of "listening-to-listen" is introduced, as contrasted with listening in order to hear, listening-to-understand or in order to interpret. It is argued that free-associative listening is distinctive as a processive momentum that deconstructively interrogates the practitioner's own mechanisms of suppression and repression. This process fosters an awareness of that which is otherwise than representation, that which cannot be captured within the purview of reflective consciousness. In this sense, healing is not only transformative, but also transmutative, and the psychoanalyst is one for whom nothing is alien and everything is strange. On Tuesday, April 24, 1900, three days after Passover, Freud gave a talk at his B'nai B'rith lodge on Emile Zola's utopian novel penned in self-exile in London, Fécondité (1899). The next day Freud wrote Wilhelm Fliess that the night before the talk he had a dream in which "[t]he brethren … were unkind and scornful of me." In the dream his brethren's contempt signifies that Freud is making his impious move to destroy their Tree of Life no Law, no Judaism, no Christianity, no miserable anti-Semitism. In Freud's utopia, an enlightened socially just world grounded in reason, which mirrors the brotherly atheistic utopia envisioned in Fécondité, the seed of Abraham at long last can move across frontiers freely, develop their talents, and satisfy their needs. In this paper, the author attempts to arrive at a comprehensive outline of Winnicott's developmental theory. This theory encompasses the infant's emergence from total dependence and subject/object merging to what the author refers to as relative independence and relative subject/object separation (in Winnicott's words, "separation that is a not a separation but a form of union" [1971a, p. 98]). This conceptualization is based mainly on an amalgam of Winnicott's two well-known papers, on transitional objects and phenomena (1953) and on the use of an object (1969). The author also refers to André Green's notions of the importance of the negative and of the "dead mother" in reference to Winnicott's work. To demonstrate the clinical implications of the paper, the author discusses in detail the case of Rosemary Dinnage, as described by both Winnicott and Green and as reported directly by herself.Soft robots characterize operational safety due to inherent compliance from their soft mechanism, whereas their mechanism enhances the difficulty in accurate closed-loop control. To explore their applicability in manipulation tasks, in this article, we propose a visual servoing pushing controller considering the effect of contact. The controller is designed to simultaneously complete the positioning and manipulation tasks. To further improve the manipulation performance, an active pushing force regulation method is proposed and integrated into the controller. The proposed control algorithm is validated experimentally. The results show that the controller guarantees the convergence to the image error and meanwhile, it improves the pushing manipulation performance.
Digestive functions of the colon depend on sensory-motor reflexes in the enteric nervous system (ENS), initiated by intrinsic primary afferent neurons (IPANs). IPAN terminals project to the mucosal layer of the colon, allowing communication with epithelial cells comprising the colon lining. The chemical nature and functional significance of this epithelial-neural communication in regards to secretion and colon motility are of high interest. Colon epithelial cells can produce and release neuroactive substances such as ATP and 5-HT, which can activate receptors on adjacent nerve fibers, including IPAN subtypes. In this study we examined if stimulation of epithelial cells alone is sufficient to activate neural circuits that control colon motility.

Optogenetics and calcium imaging were used in ex vivo preparations of the mouse colon to selectively stimulate the colon epithelium, measure changes in motility and record activity of neurons within the myenteric plexus.

Light-mediated activation of epithelial cells lining the distal, but not proximal, colon caused local contractions and increased the rate of colonic migrating motor complexes. Epithelial-evoked local contractions in the distal colon were reduced by both ATP and 5-HT receptor antagonists.

Our findings indicate that colon epithelial cells likely utilize purinergic and serotonergic signaling to initiate activity in myenteric neurons, produce local contractions and facilitate large-scale coordination of ENS activity responsible for whole-colon motility patterns.

Labral reconstruction has shown promise for the treatment of irreparable labral tears in high-level athletes. The literature is scarce regarding outcomes and timing of return to sports (RTS) in these patients.

(1) To report minimum 2-year patient-reported outcome (PRO) scores and RTS characteristics for high-level athletes undergoing primary labral reconstruction for irreparable labral tears and (2) to compare clinical results with a matched control group of athletes undergoing labral repair.

Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

Data were prospectively collected and retrospectively reviewed for high school, college, and professional athletes who underwent a primary arthroscopic labral reconstruction between January 2010 and June 2018. Minimum 2-year PROs were compared for the modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), Nonarthritic Hip Score (NAHS), and Hip Outcome Score-Sport Specific Subscale (HOS-SSS), as well as the visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, patient satisfaction, and RTS. The percentages of patienot to do so for reasons unrelated to the hip. PROs, RTS rate, and PASS/MCID rates were similar between the labral reconstruction group and a control labral repair group (
> .05).

Primary arthroscopic labral reconstruction for irreparable labral tears was associated with significant improvement in PROs and high rates of RTS in high-level athletes. These results were comparable with those of a control group of athletes undergoing labral repair.

It infects approximately one-third of the world population. T. gondii establishes itself in warm-blooded animals and causes adverse health outcomes, particularly in immunocompromised patients. T. gondii is also widely used as a model organism to study other related apicomplexan parasites, which requires a deeper understanding of its molecular biology. Type I strains (GT1 and RH) of T. gondii are considered the most virulent forms. The whole-genome sequencing of T. gondii annotated 8460 predicted gene models in the parasite. To this end, the proteogenomics technology allows harnessing of mass spectrometry (MS)-derived proteomic data to unravel new protein-coding genes, not to mention validation and correction of the existing gene models. In this study using the proteogenomic approach, we report the identification of 31 novel protein-coding genes while reannotating 88 existing gene models. Notably, the genome annotations were corrected for genes, such as SAG5C, GRA6, ROP4, ROP5, and ROP26. NSC 19893 The associated proteins are known to play important roles in host-parasite interactions, particularly in relation to parasite virulence, suppression of host immune response, and distinctively pertinent for the survival of the parasite inside the host system. These new findings offer new insights, informing planetary health broadly and the knowledge base on T. gondii virulence specifically. The proteogenomics approach also provides a concrete example to study related apicomplexan organisms of relevance to planetary health, and so as to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics against toxoplasmosis and related diseases.Coumarins (2H-chromen-2-ones), also known as benzopyran-2-ones, are a family of naturally occurring heterocyclic ring systems that contain a lactone moiety. Coumarins exhibit a wide range of well-studied pharmacological properties. Over the last few decades, as a result of advances in diverse oriented synthetic routes, physicochemical properties and numerous biological activities, coumarins have become globally studied molecules from various synthetic and medicinal chemists. Recently, several bioactive coumarins bearing azetidinone and thiazolidinone moieties have been found to display a range of therapeutic characteristics, including antimicrobial, anticancer, antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory properties. This review offers a brief description of the synthetic methodologies, known bioactivity and structure-activity relationships of coumarins bearing azetidinones and thiazolidinones. The authors compared the defense mechanisms used by a community sample of people with and without self-reported psychopathic traits. Defense mechanisms were assessed using the Defense Style Questionnaire-60 and psychopathy was assessed using the Levinson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale in a sample of 225 adults recruited on the Internet. Results found that people with self-reported psychopathy traits used significantly more immature and neurotic defense mechanisms than people without a psychopathic personality profile. All participants reported equal use of mature defenses.Sleep problems among frontline medical staff during the COVID-19 epidemic require attention. A total of 249 frontline medical staff who were recruited to support Wuhan completed this cross-sectional study. A web-based questionnaire about insomnia, depression, anxiety, and fatigue was used to assess mental health status. The prevalence of sleep disorders among frontline medical staff was 50.6%. More time spent in Wuhan and a history of insomnia, depression, anxiety, and fatigue were associated with a higher risk of insomnia. People who stayed in Wuhan for a long time with a history of insomnia, depression, anxiety, and fatigue symptoms might be at high risk of insomnia.
