ls, which enriched the CSC-like cells in contrast to their p53null counterparts. The additional 2 Gy and 5 Gy X-ray exposure leads to the dose-dependent increase in the proportion of LC3 + cells in CD44high/CD166high population of both parental p53wt and p53null, but not MFR-surviving NSCLC sublines. Our data indicated that autophagy is not necessarily associated with CSC-like cells' radiosensitivity, emphasizing that careful assessment of other milestone processes (such as senescence and autophagy-p53-Zeb1 axis) of primary radiation responses may provide new potential targets modulated for therapeutic benefit through radiosensitizing cancer cells while rescuing normal tissue. Our findings also shed light on the intricate crosstalk between autophagy and the p53-related EMT, by which MFR-surviving cells might obtain an invasive phenotype and metastatic potential.Dental implants have become a routine component of daily dental practice and the demand for dental implants is expected to increase significantly in the future. Despite the high success rates of dental implants, failures do occur, resulting in discomfort, rampant destruction of the oral health, or painful and costly surgical replacement of a failed implant. ML265 Peri-implant diseases are inflammatory conditions affecting the soft/hard tissues surrounding a functional dental implant. Plenty of experimental evidence indicates that the accumulation of dental plaque at the soft tissue-implant interface and the subsequent local inflammatory response seems to be key in the pathogenesis of the peri-implant mucositis. Such peri-implant-soft tissue interface is less effective than natural teeth in resisting bacterial invasion, enhancing vulnerability to subsequent peri-implant disease. Furthermore, in certain individuals, it will progress to peri-implantitis, resulting in alveolar bone loss and implant failure. Although early diagnosis and accurate identification of risk factors are extremely important to effectively prevent peri-implant diseases, current systematic reviews revealed that a uniform classification and diagnostic methodology for peri-implantitis are lacking. Recent progress on fluorescence-based technology enabled rapid diagnosis of the disease and effective removal of plaques. Here, we briefly review biofilm-associated peri-implant diseases and propose a fluorescence-based approach for more accurate and objective diagnoses. A fluorescence-based diagnosis tool through headlights combined with special-filtered dental loupes may serve as a hands-free solution for both precise diagnosis and effective removal of plaque-biofilms.
High on-treatment platelet reactivity or its equivalent-resistance to the antiplatelet agent-significantly reduces the efficacy of the therapy, contributing to a negative impact on stroke course. Previous studies demonstrated that aspirin resistance is associated with a larger size of acute ischemic infarct. Due to the increasing use of clopidogrel in the secondary prevention of stroke, we aimed to assess the impact of clopidogrel resistance on the size and extent of ischemic lesions, both acute and chronic.
This prospective, single-center and observational study involved 74 ischemic stroke subjects, treated with 75 mg of clopidogrel. We used impedance aggregometry to determine platelet reactivity 6-12 h after a dose of clopidogrel as a first assessment and 48 h later as the second measurement. A favorable dynamics of platelet reactivity over time was the decrease in the minimum value equal to the median in the entire study. The volume of acute ischemic infarct was estimated within 48 h after onset in difar lesions.
We emphasized that unfavorable dynamics of platelet reactivity over time during clopidogrel therapy in acute phase of stroke affect the volume of acute infarct and the severity of chronic vascular lesions. The high deposition of intramuscular fat and the content of oleic fatty acid are characteristic of the Iberian pig. These two parameters present great variability and are differentiated amongst the varieties that make up the Iberian pig population. Although previous studies generated evidence for causal genes and polymorphisms associated to the adipogenic potential of the Iberian pig, there is little information about how genetic expression influences this trait's variability. The aim of this study was to analyses the expression profile between two varieties of Iberian pig (Torbiscal and Retinto) and their reciprocal crosses differentiated in their intramuscular fat (IMF) content and fatty acid (FA) composition in the Longissimus thoracis muscle using an RNA-seq approach. Our results corroborate that the Retinto variety is the fattiest amongst all studied varieties as its upregulated genes, such as FABP3 and FABP5, SLC27A1 and VEGFA among others, contribute to increasing adiposity. In its turn, Torbiscal pigs showed an upregulation of genes associated with the inhibition of fat deposition such as ADIPOQ and CPT1A. Further genetic variation analysis in these Iberian varieties showed relevant associations for SNP located within the differentially expressed genes with IMF and FA content. Thus, the differences found in the genetic architecture and the muscle transcriptome of these Iberian varieties might explain the variability in their fat content and composition and hence, their meat quality. Background and Objective Although smoking and the physical activity level (PAL) are important determinants of health status in adolescence, there is a lack of information on the relationship between smoking and PAL in early adolescence. The objective of this study was to evaluate the gender-specific relationship between smoking and PAL in 14-to-16-year-old adolescents. Materials and Methods The sample included 650 adolescents (337 girls, 14.7 ± 0.5 years at first testing wave) from Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the first testing wave, participants were tested using structured questionnaires. Second testing was commenced after approximately 20 months (16.4 ± 0.6 years). The variables were age, gender, socioeconomic status, living environment, cigarette smoking (predictors), and PAL (criterion). Predictors were measured at the first wave, and criterion at the first-wave and second-wave. Results For girls, smoking was negatively correlated to PAL at the first-wave (OR 0.75, 95% CI 0.55-0.95) and at the second-wave (OR 0.
