It needs careful attention by doing thorough clinical examination and correlating patient symptoms with radiological investigations. A patient who presents with persistent shoulder pain after cervical spine surgery had a higher chance of having concurrent shoulder pathology, and they should be properly investigated and managed to alleviate the suffering of the patient.Introduction Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is an endocrinological disorder associated with increased systemic inflammation. This study aimed to examine the changes in the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), serum parathormone, serum corrected calcium, serum phosphate, and white blood cell (WBC) count in patients with PHPT before and after parathyroidectomy. Methods A total of 37 patients who underwent successful parathyroidectomy for PHPT were included in the study. NLR, serum parathormone, serum corrected calcium, serum phosphate, and WBC count were compared before parathyroidectomy and at the sixth postoperative month. Results The difference in the NLR, serum parathormone, serum corrected calcium, and serum phosphate values before and after parathyroidectomy was statistically significant (p=0.019, p less then 0.001, p less then 0.001, and p less then 0.001, respectively), but there was no significant difference in the WBC count (p=0.314). The correlation analysis performed before parathyroidectomy revealed a significant positive correlation between NLR and serum parathormone (r=0.519, p=0.001), serum corrected calcium (r=0.390, p=0.017) and WBC count (r=0.531, p=0.001), and a significant negative correlation between NLR and serum phosphate (r=-0.331). Conclusion In patients with PHPT, successful parathyroidectomy results in a decrease in NLR. Although neurological and vascular complications during XLIF have been reported, to our knowledge, a combination of simultaneous vascular and neurovascular complication during XLIF has not been reported to date. A 72-year-old female patient was admitted to our orthopaedic department because of back pain associated with severe neuropathic radicular pain to her both lower extremities, incomplete paraplegia and low back fistula with serous secretion for several weeks. She had been wheel-chair bound since nine years before her admission in our department when she had her initial XLIF operation in another institution. Intraoperatively, an aorta lesion occurred, which was emergently addressed, along with lumbar plexus injury. Since then, she had an extensive history of subsequent operations that ended with a T10-S1 posterior lumbar fusion, with no improvement of her neurological condition, complicated by hardware-induced infection. She underwent her last operation in our department; removal of the posterior lumbar construct and extensive debridement of the posterior lumbar spine. We present this rare case and we perform an extensive literature review. Although XLIF has been established in recent years, the report of major vascular injuries, although rare, has questioned its safety profile. Spine surgeons should be aware of catastrophic major neurovascular complications associated with this procedure and be prepared to address them.Implant-based breast reconstruction is the most popular reconstruction option following mastectomy. In addition to the subjective maternal wellbeing offered by the visual and auditory cues from the infant, this technology-assisted telelactation'/'mobile-lactation'/'e-lactation' could potentially enhance the mother's capacity to initiate emotional bonding with the infant and be an adjunct in achieving and maintaining her lactation goals while offering the best nutritional choice for the infant.Meningoencephalitis caused by free-living amoebas (FLA) has a high mortality rate, and most treatments are ineffective. FLA includes Naegleria, Fowleri, Acanthamoeba, and Balamuthia mandrillaris (M). We explore the use of miltefosine in the treatment of one of these infections. The concerning mortality of the infection obligates us to look for more effective treatments for meningoencephalitis caused by FLA. During this review, we will consolidate the knowledge of using miltefosine in these three infections. We will investigate the mechanism by which the drug is effective in these infections as well. After this comprehensive review, we should assess if miltefosine improves the mortality and prognosis of the infection with the information collected. We used a Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) search on PubMed. Inclusion criteria included papers written in the English language and human subjects research for the past 25 years. Until today, there are no definitive guidelines to be followed when treating such patients.
