Item Upgrading: What Nobody Is Talking About
World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as crit chance and PvE damage.

For example an item with the upgrade template ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a boost in stats or an extra effect. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.


Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at a minimum upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be inserted. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and cannot be applied multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well in some items that aren't ascended. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade can include a suffix or prefix changing the name of the equipment to which it is used (for instance "Canthan Armor Insignia is changed to Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, which lets players to create stronger versions of the item using less upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level with normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can modify the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

The player can have the maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will drop during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their equipment even in the event that they don't know how much it will be improved following the reset.

If a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be expensive, and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the chance of failure. Some upgrades also give a bonus if reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, which includes any existing affixes. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 whenever you can.

You'll often see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is a great method to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded straight to level 15, and they provide an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to reach higher nodes faster.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values that can enhance a stat by, and the value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will boost the overall value of the glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain unlimited-use gathering tools as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

After you have acquired the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that boosts the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph the bonus will be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, so it is best to place Glyphs in key spots on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Druids, for instance should put their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrade system allows players to increase the power of certain items by inserting upgraded components. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each level of item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When the player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a problem, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you don't need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it could waste a lot of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. One example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or does not swim as dolphins). This item can be upgraded multiple times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item can be extremely valuable in PvP, as the best version of it could be worth between 20 and 50 times its non-upp'd value.

Requirements

The item upgrader allows players to increase the level of their equippable equipment (armor weapons, armor trinkets, and armor) beyond ilvl385 by handing over the appropriate currency to the NPC. The upgrade of armor set pieces will also increase the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to match the requirements of the upgraded equipment.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear, which can be upgraded up to eight times. Each when you upgrade an item it is given the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go over the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to return to its initial state which means that the player has to pay for more resources than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. Additionally the item will lose any bonuses it gained, including crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that, when a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit, the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a brand new attribute that has been added to item definitions. The value is calculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item may have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and a 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero quality items will have a much lower cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements than standard gear--for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. The player will need to bring every piece of equipment they wish to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each equipment upgrade will require different amounts of ingredients needed to upgrade, in addition to the cost listed above.
