A hundred along with Five decades of Hebephrenia. An overview.
Cadmium is a phytotoxic metal which threatens the global food safety owing to its higher retention rates and non-biodegradable nature. Optimal study of microbe-assisted bioremediation is a potential way to minimize the adversities of Cd on plants. Current study was aimed to isolate, identify and characterize Cd tolerant PGPBs from industrially contaminated soil and to evaluate the potential of plant-microbe synergy for the growth augmentation and Cd remediation. The Acinetobacter sp. SG-5, identified through 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, was able to tolerate 1000 mg/l of applied Cd stress and ability of in vitro indole-3-acetic acid production, phosphate solubilization, as well as 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid deaminase activity. A Petri plate experiment was designed to investigate the impact of Acinetobacter sp. SG-5 on applied Cd toxicity (0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 μM) in maize cultivars (3062-Cd tolerant, 31P41-Cd susceptible). Results revealed that non-inoculated maize plants were drastically affected with applied Cd treatments for growth, antioxidants and mineral ions acquisition predominantly in susceptible cultivar (31P41). PGPB inoculation positively influenced the maize growth by enhanced anti-oxidative potential coupled with optimum level of nutrients (K, Ca, Mg, Zn). Analysis of morpho-physio-biochemical traits after PGPB application revealed that substantial Cd tolerance was acquired by susceptible cv. 31P41 than tolerant cv. 3062 under applied Cd regimes. Research outcomes may be important for understanding the growth responses of Cd susceptible and tolerant maize cultivars under Acinetobacter sp. SG-5 inoculation and likely to provide efficient approaches to reduce Cd retention in edible plant parts and/or Cd bioremediation.Root development in higher plants is achieved by a precise intercellular communication which determines cell fate in the primary embryonic meristem where the gasotransmitters H2S, NO and CO participate dynamically. Furthermore, the rhizosphere interaction of these molecules with microbial and soil metabolism also affects root development. NO regulates root growth and architecture in association with several other biomolecules like auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), ethylene, jasmonic acid (JA), strigolactones, alkamides and melatonin. The CO-mediated signal transduction pathway in roots is closely linked to the NO-mediated signal cascades. Interestingly, H2S acts also as an upstream component in IAA and NO-mediated crosstalk during root development. Heme oxygenase (HO) 1 generates CO and functions as a downstream component in H2S-mediated adventitious rooting and H2S-CO crosstalk. Likewise, reactive oxygen species (ROS), H2S and NO crosstalk are important components in the regulation of root architecture. selleck Deciphering these interactions will be a potential biotechnological tool which could provide benefits in crop management in soils, especially under adverse environmental conditions. This review aims to provide a comprehensive update of the complex networks of these gasotransmitters during the development of roots.Drought is a key threat to maize growth and yield. link2 Understanding the mechanism of immature tassel (IT) response to long term drought is of paramount importance. Here, the maize inbred line PH6WC was tested under well-watered (CK) and two water deficit treatments (WD1 and WD2). The final IT length in the WD1 and WD2 treatments decreased by nearly 6.2% and 21.2% compared to the CK, respectively, and the average accumulation rate IT dry matter was 1.5-fold and 1.8-fold slower, respectively. Furthermore, RNA sequencing analysis was conducted on the IT sampled at 30 days after the WD treatments. In total, the cellular component in gene ontology (GO) analysis suggested that the differentially expressed genes were significantly enriched in three common terms (apoplast, plant-type cell wall, and anchored component of membrane) among the CK vs WD1, CK vs WD2, and WD1 vs WD2 comparisons. Next, a co-expression network analysis identified 44 modules that contained global expression genes. Finally, by combining the GO analysis with modules, nine genes involved in carbohydrate metabolism and the antioxidant system were screened out, and the six corresponding physiological parameters were all significantly increased under the WD treatments. These results showed that, although the IT length and dry matter decreased, the IT enhanced the adaptation to drought by regulating their own genetic and physiological changes. If the information on freeway exits is not effective or driver vigilance is not adequate, the driver may not be able to obtain the information in time, resulting in missing the exit or making a forcible lane-change that could cause an accident. To allow the driver to obtain sufficient exit information in time and get off the freeway safely, this study proposes the creation of a guardrail painted with a yellow color and located prior to the exit. The yellow color guardrail belt (YCB) aims at informing the drivers that there is an exit ahead and to pay attention to the exit information, reminding them to adjust vehicle state and driving behavior in time. A driving simulator experiment with two different scenarios (YCB scenario and baseline scenario with no YCB) were used to explore the effectiveness of the YCB. link3 Data on eye movement, electroencephalograph, and driving behavior of the participants were obtained. The results showed that compared with the baseline scenario, in the YCB scenario, the fixation points were mainly distributed in front of the road and the fixation duration on the guide signs was relatively longer; the EEG ratio (θ + α) / β was smaller; the driver decelerated more smoothly; and the steering wheel angle was smaller. In addition, the statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences in the fixation duration, the EEG ratio (θ + α) / β, and steering wheel angle between the two scenarios. This indicated that participants' vigilance in the YCB scenario was significantly improved, where the participants paid more attention to the guide signs and had better control of the vehicle. This study recommends a new device for reminding drivers to pay attention to freeway exits, which would greatly stimulate driver's sense of space on the exit and improve traffic safety on freeways.
To develop an on-lattice agent-based model describing the growth of multicellular tumor spheroids using simple Monte Carlo tools.

Cells are situated on the vertices of a cubic grid. Different cell states (proliferative, hypoxic or dead) and cell evolution rules, driven by 10 parameters, and the effects of the culture medium are included. About twenty spheroids of MCF-7 human breast cancer were cultivated and the experimental data were used for tuning the model parameters.

Simulated spheroids showed adequate sizes of the necrotic nuclei and of the hypoxic and proliferative cell phases as a function of the growth time, mimicking the overall characteristics of the experimental spheroids. The relation between the radii of the necrotic nucleus and the whole spheroid obtained in the simulations was similar to the experimental one and the number of cells, as a function of the spheroid volume, was well reproduced. The statistical variability of the Monte Carlo model described the whole volume range observed for studied.
This study examines undergraduate students' attitudes towards people with intellectual disability (PWID) in relation to their frequency of contact with people with intellectual disability, the quality of this contact, and their knowledge of intellectual disability (ID).

The study sample comprised 1001 undergraduate students (458 male students [46 %]; 543 female students [54 %]; mean age = 20.6 years) from Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The Arabic version of the Mental Retardation Attitude Inventory-Revised (MRAI-R) was used to examine attitudes towards PWID.

Knowledge about ID, quality of contact with PWID, and gender were significant predictors of attitudes. Frequency of contact, as well as having relatives with a disability, were not significant predictors of attitudes. No differences were found between participants from the two countries.

The results of the study indicate that high-quality contact is a major predictor of students' attitudes. Therefore, society needs to ensure more than just simple forms of contact between people with and without disabilities.

The approach is based on normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with refractive index detection. It employed silica stationary phase, n-hexane mobile phase with isopropanol modifier to achieve optimum separation between hydrocarbons (petrodiesel or green diesel), fatty acid methyl esters (biodiesel) and triglycerides (vegetable oils and used cooking oil). In addition to determining vegetable oils or used cooking oils as adulterants in diesel, this method is also proposed as a better alternative to the standard method ASTM D7371, which is currently recommended for determining fatty acid methyl esters in petrodiesel. The method development involved screening of various stationary and mobile phases, with and without modifiers, to achieve acceptable chromatographic resolutions between analytes. Under the optimized method conditions, silica column, and n-hexane containing 0.6% isopropanol as the mobile phase provided the best results. The real-world scenario was simulated for the method validation carried out by fortifying Jatropha seed oil, soybean oil, and used cooking oil in the biodiesel blended petrodiesel and green diesel. Measurement of all analytes was accompanied by high precision, low limit of detection/quantification and linear response range of 0.05 to 50% for biodiesel, and 0.05 to 30% for vegetable oils. The proposed method is simple, fast (runtime 7 min), and does not require sample pre-treatment and backflushing.Herein a new series of organometallic half-sandwich Ru(Ⅱ) complexes bearing aryl-BIAN chelating ligands with various electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents have been developed as theranostic agents. All the complexes display much higher anti-proliferative potency than the clinical chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin towards seven cancer cell lines. The anti-proliferative efficacy of these complexes is correlated to their electron-withdrawing ability. Interestingly, complex Ru1 also potently suppresses cancer cell migration in vitro and effectively inhibit tumor growth in vivo in a CT26 colon cancer mouse xenograft model. Mechanisms of action studies display that Ru1 can favorably accumulate in lysosome and exerts anti-cancer potency by inducing a series of events related to lysosomal dysfunction in CT26 cells. Interestingly, inhibition of lysosomal enzymes leads to suppression of cytotoxicity and apoptosis induced by Ru1. Our results elucidate that complex Ru1 can elicit cytotoxicity through lysosome-mediated apoptosis in vitro and suppress tumor growth in vivo.
