Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is applied to (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment with less Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of the weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.


The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will drop during the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be costly and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Glyphs

When a player upgrades an item it is replaced with a different item of the same kind. This means that the same armor piece will become an weapon or shield once upgraded.
