World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all of its leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.
The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
This isn't the only factor that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item, for example, will only be upgraded one time and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at more expensive costs.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is thus more valuable in the initial game run than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade item s are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
