The Reasons You're Not Successing At Diva ADHD Assessment
DIVA ADHD - Improving Adult ADHD Diagnosis

DIVA is a semi-structured, structured interview designed to enhance ADHD assessments in adults. This study will evaluate the criterion validity of DIVA 2.0 and its concurrent validity in comparison with Conners Adult ADHD Diagnostic Interview for DSM-IV (CAADID) criteria.

Compared to the top 20 attributes, DIVA attributes that correlate strongest with diagnosis are attention deficit for both childhood and adulthood and hyperactivity/impulsivity for adults, followed by CAARS ADHD TT1 score and IOWA personality disorders evaluation.

Signs and symptoms

Symptoms of ADD/ADHD affect every aspect of our lives, from relationships and career advancement to the day-to-day tasks that are part of our lives. It is important that our ADHD assessment takes a holistic approach, looking at how the symptoms impact all aspects of life. During your assessment, Dr Schilling will begin by collecting details about your symptoms as well as health background. She will then conduct an DIVA 5 assessment. This is a semi-structured, interview which evaluates both the main symptoms and the impact of ADD/ADHD on your life.

The DIVA is an interview tool designed by psychotherapists and psychiatrists to assess symptoms of adult ADHD. It has been proven to be extremely sensitive and specific. It is extremely effective in identifying those who have the disorder. It is able to raise awareness of, and the diagnosis of adult ADHD in Korea, as it is the only validated semi-structured, semi-structured diagnostic interview for adults with ADHD available in the country.

To conduct the DIVA, a trained clinician typically psychologists or psychiatrists will ask questions about the core symptoms of ADHD such as inattention, hyperactivity and an impulsive nature. The psychologist will also look at the history of the individual and their childhood experiences and their influence on their behavior. This is because the signs of ADHD don't just emerge in a flash, they manifest throughout one's childhood, teen years, and into adulthood.

The DIVA can detect ADHD because it considers both the DSM-IV ADHD criteria during childhood and into adulthood and how these symptoms affect the individual's daily functioning in five distinct areas: education, employment relations with family/partners and leisure/social activities, as well as confidence and self-esteem. Other screening tools, for instance the WURS brief that was compared with the CAADID demonstrated low sensitivity and negative predictive value.

Diagnosis

To determine ADHD in adults it is important that you evaluate the signs and symptoms along with their background. This can be done through an extensive interview about childhood symptoms as well as a neurological assessment. It is essential to take into consideration the impact these symptoms have on the individual's work and daily life. This can be determined conducting a structured interview, the DIVA and, in certain cases, getting information from family members and friends.

The DIVA interview is a semistructured interview originally designed for adults in the Netherlands. It has been updated for use with adult patients in other countries including Korea. adhd assessment london looked at the validity of the Korean version of DIVA (DIVA-5) in a clinical sample of adult patients with ADHD.

During the DIVA the doctor will inquire about ADHD symptoms during the early years and in adulthood. They will also inquire about the age of onset of symptoms and the extent of impairment triggered by these symptoms. The clinician will also gather a variety of sociodemographic information and inquire about any psychiatric-related co-morbidity.

MINI-S as well as Version 5.0.0 and the Brief Alcohol Related Neuropsychological Impaired Screening Instrument (BEARNI) as well as the Frontal Assessment Battery were used to screen for psychiatric co-morbidity. A clinical diagnosis of ADHD was determined by two psychiatrists with years of experience who utilized the DIVA-5, a structured diagnostic interview, to determine the severity of symptoms in the early years and in childhood, and determine the duration of these symptoms.

The sensitivity and specificity of DIVA-5 was found to be high for both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms in childhood and adulthood. This diagnostic tool was shown to have good concurrent validity with the WURS scale and fair concurrent validity with three self-report ratings instruments: the ASRS, FAB, and Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

The sensitivity and specificity of the DIVA-5 was found to be high for all subtypes of ADHD in both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity in adulthood and during childhood. The diagnostic accuracy of the DIVA-5 was found to be comparable to the accuracy of a diagnosis established by two expert psychiatrists. This was in line both with the sensitivity and specificity of earlier screening tools such as ASRS and WURS.

Treatment

Undiagnosed ADHD can have a major impact on your life. This can be in many areas, from relationships, academic progress and work to the simple task of organising daily living. A diagnosis can help identify your strengths and weaknesses as well as provide treatment options to alleviate your symptoms and cope mechanisms.

A licensed clinician, usually psychologist or psychiatrist will conduct an in-depth interview with you regarding your current symptoms using the DIVA-5 assessment tool. This will include asking standard questions about your levels of hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. It will also examine your personal history and your childhood experiences to create a complete picture of the symptoms you are experiencing.

This method is essential for ensuring a thorough diagnosis of adult ADHD. This helps us better know your symptoms and help you with your treatment.

The DIVA assessment can be used to identify adult ADHD with high sensitivity and specificity. It has also been proven to have good criterion valid when compared with self-report scales like the Wender Utah Rating Scales (WURS) or the ADHD-Rating Scale. It has good concurrency with these scales and has fair validity with Sheehan's Dysfunction Inventory.

Unlike the more traditional methods used to assess ADHD in adults, the DIVA test is focused on identifying and discussing the symptoms that occur both during childhood and adulthood, thereby increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis and allowing for a more accurate comparison between the sociodemographic characteristics of both groups. The DIVA assessment also allows for consideration of the effects of co-existing disorders on the presentation and severity of ADHD symptoms.

If your Psychologist is unable to recommend medication, it may be necessary to make an appointment with a pediatrician or Psychiatrist to further assess and/or therapy. They can refer you to a specialist Psychologist to conduct an thorough evaluation of your symptoms, and to determine if there are any differential or co-occurring diagnoses. This includes assessing any comorbid conditions, such as depression or anxiety. This will enable your Psychologist to suggest an appropriate treatment plan.

Getting Started

A diagnosis of ADHD can alter your life. It offers solutions to persistent issues and opens the door to effective treatment options. However, a thorough evaluation requires the expertise of qualified medical professionals. The DIVA ADHD assessment is a well-organized and comprehensive tool that helps to improve the accuracy of adult ADHD diagnosis by assessing symptoms across various life stages. It also helps identify patterns of behavior and differentiates between ADHD symptoms and other conditions that may present similar symptoms in adults, such as anxiety or depression.

In an DIVA ADHD evaluation, a doctor will conduct an organized interview to ask a series of questions about the symptoms like hyperactivity, inattention and the tendency to be impulsive. The doctor evaluates the frequency, severity and duration of these symptoms to understand how they impact an person's life and performance in several situations. This information is then utilized to establish a precise diagnosis.

The DIVA assessment has been verified against other diagnostic tools and shows high sensitivity in comparison to the WURS-brief, CAA DID and an assessment by a psychiatrist. It also has a high degree of validity for assessing ADHD in five areas of daily function that include education and work relationships, home and family social interactions, free time and hobby.

A valid DIVA assessment requires the participation of the individual being evaluated as well as their close family members and close friends. This helps to establish trust and create a therapeutic bond which is essential to the success of the evaluation.

An experienced psychologist or psychiatrist who has been trained in the use of the DIVA ADHD assessment can provide a comprehensive report. This report will outline the findings of the test and suggest a treatment plan that is based on the evidence.

Please contact us to schedule an appointment if you or someone you love may be suffering from ADHD. Our doctor Kate Schilling has been trained in the use of DIVA ADHD assessments and is able to give a thorough assessment. She can refer you to a specialist who will develop an appropriate treatment strategy. Please be aware that the recommended treatment approach is a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
