World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it can boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the levels of the item. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are several theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
It's not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded one time however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to give items additional damage, special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game than in later ones, since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.
Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it fails.
item upgrade of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The luck of an item may affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
