Expression of the HAHB4 sunflower transcription factor confers drought tolerance to wheat event IND-ØØ412-7 (HB4® wheat). After confirming the compositional equivalence of event IND-ØØ412-7 with conventional wheat, its nutritional similarity to its non-genetically modified (GM) counterpart was analyzed by performing a 42-day broiler feeding study. Isoenergetic diets containing 40% flour from wheat event IND-ØØ412-7, its non-GM counterpart Cadenza, and a commercial variety were included in the study. Broilers' performance was analyzed by measuring feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion, and time to reach 2.8 kgs. The yield was evaluated by carcass weight, breast meat, and abdominal fat. No differences were found between wheat event IND-ØØ412-7 and the non-GM counterpart. A few significant differences were found with the commercial variety which were associated with the genetic background, different from the other two materials. These results support the nutritional equivalence of event IND-ØØ412-7 with conventional wheat.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of nigral dopaminergic neurons, leading to reduced motor control. The alterations in motor activity, brain Corinthian currant polar phenols' accumulation, expression patterns of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine transporter (DAT) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system were determined in rotenone-treated, currant-diet rats and matching controls.

Rotenone treatment resulted in motor deficits and TH expression decreases in the nigrostriatal pathway, exhibiting PD-like behavioural motor and neurochemical phenotypes. Interestingly, 38 days Corinthian currant consumption resulted in differential accumulation of polar phenols in mesencephalon and striatum and had a significant effect on attenuating motor deficits and dopaminergic cell loss in substantia nigra pars compacta. In addition, it induced up-regulation of BDNF expression in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system.

However, only a few studies have investigated the circulating levels of mineral in patients with migraine during the pain-free period (i.e. interictal). This study aimed to investigate whether the interictal plasma levels of minerals of women with migraine differ from those of women without migraine (controls). This is a cross-sectional study involving 67 women, of which 38 were diagnosed with migraine and 29 were controls. The groups were similar in age and body mass index. Plasma levels of magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), and selenium (Se) were measured. Dietary intake was assessed using a 24-hour food recall, and migraine impact was evaluated using the Headache Impact Test, version 6 (HIT-6). The association between migraine disability, and plasma levels and dietary intake of minerals was assessed through correlation and logistic regression analyses. Women with migraine had significantly lower plasma levels of Mg, Ca, Cu, and Zn than controls. In parallel, dietary intake of Mg, Cu, and Fe was significantly lower in patients with migraine. Migraine impact was not associated with plasma levels or dietary intake of minerals. The results suggest that patients with migraine have lower plasma levels of minerals, and dietary intervention to ensure adequate mineral intake should be considered as a therapeutic strategy for migraine.Evidence has shown that DNA is a pathogen-associated molecular pattern, posing a unique challenge in the discrimination between endogenous and foreign DNA. Evidence from genetically modified murine models further support an ability of endogenous DNA and DNA sensing to drive disease pathogenesis, prompting the question of whether endogenous DNA can also induce inflammation in human autoimmune diseases. In this review, we discuss the current understanding of intracellular DNA sensing and downstream signaling pathways as they pertain to autoinflammatory disease, including the development of monogenic disorders such as Stimulator of interferon genes-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy and Aicardi-Goutières syndrome. In addition, we discuss systemic rheumatic diseases, including certain forms of systemic lupus erythematosus, familial chilblain lupus, and other diseases with established links to intracellular DNA-sensing pathways, and highlight the lessons learned from these examples as they apply to the development of therapies targeting these pathways.Anastrozole (ANA), is an inhibitor of non-steroidal aromatase, widely employed for the treatment of breast cancer. Notably, few urinary tract infections caused by R. planticola have been reported. To our knowledge, we are presenting here the first case of urinary tract infection caused by R. Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Activating Polypeptide 38 planticola in an HIV-infected individual. It is a 50-year-old female, with a history of HIV-1 infection treated for three years. At admission, her CD4 count was 70 cells/mL, and the main complaints were severe diarrhea and cough. She was diagnosed and treated for pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and E. Coli enteritis. Initially, we observed a good evolution. However, on day 21 of hospitalization, she presented with fever and dysuria. Urinalysis revealed the presence of R. planticola with resistance to multiple antibiotics. We also detected that she has an HIV-2 but not HIV-1 infection. After receiving the right regimen, she was confirmed cured of her bacterial infections.Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is an aggressive, necrotic, life-threatening infection of the soft tissues. The delay on treatment is generally accompanied by almost 90 % lethality according to the development of septic shock and its associated complications. Primary Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Breast (PNFB) is seen extremely rare. To date, breast necrotizing fasciitis have been reported only as a limited number of case reports in the literature. PNFB is commonly misdiagnosed as cellulitis, mastitis, abscess or inflammatory breast cancer. Although PNFB is a very rapid and aggressive disease, which can be fatal. Delayed cases were unfortunately resulted in mortality due to several consequential reasons. Therefore, careful and detailed evaluation of all cases irrespective of age, especially those with risk factors and comorbidities, could be life saving in respect of early diagnosis and timely treatment. Our aim is to to present the analysis and treatment modalities of five primarily seen PFNB, in this case series.
Catheter Associated Asymptomatic Bacteriuria persisting beyond 48 hours after catheter removal predisposes to the development of catheter associated urinary tract infections, necessitating treatment. Current surveillance strategies do not screen for infection detection after catheter removal, missing most of the clinically significant catheter associated urinary tract infection cases.

The study reports findings of a pilot, short-term, cross-sectional study conducted on patients who underwent indwelling urinary catheterization for any of the recognized indications. Surveillance for catheter associated urinary tract infections was done as per Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, National health and safety network protocols starting from two days onwards until the entire period of catheterization. Patients who remained asymptomatic during the period of catheterization were further screened for catheter associated asymptomatic bacteriuria at 48 hours after catheter removal and followed up for development of signs and symptoms suggestive of urinary tract infections. Catheter associated urinary tract infection rates were calculated with and without inclusion of catheter associated asymptomatic bacteriuria and compared.

Screening for catheter associated asymptomatic bacteriuria at 48 hours of catheter removal significantly (p = 0.00021) improved the catheter associated urinary tract infection rates from 2.67 to 8.01 per 1,000 catheter days. Approximately 75% of patients with catheter associated asymptomatic bacteriuria after catheter removal became symptomatic for UTIs on follow-up.

Infection prevention and control (IPC) programs in the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) countries are evolving. The objective was to characterize IPC personnel and programs in MENA countries, with special emphasis on the differences between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and non-GCC countries.

A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in 2019 among IPC members of the Arab Countries Infection Control Network (AcicN). The survey focused on three domains; demographic and professional characteristics, organizational structure, and IPC program characteristics.

A total of 269 participants aged 39.9 ± 8.4 years were included in the study. Majority of the participants were females (67.7%), nurses (63.7%), and of Middle-Eastern origin (57.3%). 32.2% of the participants were certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC). Only 22.7% of participants were satisfied with their current compensation. Surveillance was the most time-consuming task (26.6%), followed by isolation (12.4%), and investigation of outbreaks (12.
