According to risk characterization of fish living in the Pearl River, the decreasing order of health risks was GR > LE > XR > BR.The immunity potency upon natural infection or vaccination is the main concern for the vaccine strategy of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS COV-2 variant), especially the recently reported Omicron variant (B.1.1.529). In this study, 200 recipients immunized with three doses of a COVID-19-inactivated vaccine were enrolled, whose serum samples were collected within 2 months after the third immunization. The neutralizing activity of sera against the pseudotyped Omicron variant, prototype, and Delta variant was determined. Our results demonstrated that the positive neutralization activity was 95.5% for the Omicron variant, 99.5% for the prototype, and 98.5% for the Delta variant. The geometric mean titers (GMT) for the Omicron variant was 49 and maintained sustained immune levels for 2 months, which decreased by 4.9-fold and 3.0-fold compared with the prototype (GMT, 239) and Delta variant (GMT, 148), respectively. In summary, our study demonstrated that three doses of a COVID-19-inactivated vaccine effectively yielded potent cross-neutralizing activity against the Omicron variant at 2 months after the third vaccination.HighlightsRunning with a musical rhythm that is higher than the preferred cadence leads to an increased running cadence, without increasing heartrate and running speed. This cadence remains elevated for at least three to five weeks after the music intervention period. All individuals showed a practically relevant increase in cadence during and after the intervention. One of the most severe consequences of climate change on the rabbit production sector is heat stress. Dietary supplementation of phytochemicals could alleviate the negative impact of heat stress on rabbits. Thirty-six V-line rabbit does with average live body weight (LBW) of 2.672 ± 0.031 kg were randomly allocated into three experimental groups as follows the control group (OPE0) and the OPE2.5 and OPE5 groups were orally administered orange peel extract (OPE) at doses of 2.5 and 5 mL/doe. The increasing OPE levels significantly improved LBW at partum (p = 0.002) and weaning (p = 0.004), daily and total feed intake from pregnancy until weaning (p = 0.007), daily milk yield per doe at 7th and 14th days (p ≤ 0.05), and milk efficiency (p = 0.001). Litter size at 1st-28th days, litter weight gain, survival rate, and kit weight gain at 21st-28th days of heat-stressed doe rabbits were significantly improved with OPE treatments. The treatment of OPE5 significantly decreased serum glucose, triglycerides, and very-low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels of rabbits. The increasing OPE levels decreased significantly total lipid and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels and increased (p = 0.001) high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol concentration in heat-stressed rabbits. In conclusion, the treatment of OPE improved feed utilization, milk efficiency, and reproductive performance and alleviated the drastic impacts of heat stress on rabbits. This cross-sectional study was conducted in September 2021 among 1,045 Bangladeshi older adults aged 60 years or above to explore the COVID-19 vaccination coverage and its associated factors. We used a semi-structured questionnaire to collect data on participants' sociodemographic and lifestyle characteristics, and COVID-19 related information (selected based on an extensive literature review). A multinomial logistic regression model was used to identify the factors independently associated with vaccine receipt. Nearly, two-thirds of the participants (64.5%) were unvaccinated and 12.5% received a single dose. Among the unvaccinated, approximately 94% reported that there was a problem in accessing the vaccine. We found that participants with formal schooling had 42% lower risk of being unvaccinated (RRR (Relative Risk Ratio) = 0.58, 95% CI 0.42-0.80) or 39% lower risk of receiving a single dose (RRR = 0.61, 95% CI 0.39-0.96) than the participants having no formal schooling. The middle family monthly income groups had 65% higher risk (RRR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.17-2.32) and rural participants had 84% higher risk (RRR = 1.84, 95% CI 1.26-2.70) of not receiving vaccines compared to their counterparts. selleck kinase inhibitor Also, the participants with non-communicable chronic conditions had a significantly lower risk of being unvaccinated (RRR = 0.49, 95% CI 0.35-0.68) or receiving a single dose (RRR = 0.49, 95% CI 0.31-0.77) compared to their counterparts. This finding may help strengthen the existing efforts to maximize vaccine coverage among older populations in Bangladesh and reach herd immunity to break the transmission chain and gain greater overall population protection more rapidly.Malignant catatonia is a life-threatening syndrome that could be observed in various psychiatric and neurological conditions. We describe the challenging case of a young woman with relapsing-remitting malignant catatonia, which finally resolve after electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Details regarding her psychiatric symptoms, dynamics, and EEG features during each acute and post-acute phases of the disease are described and long-term follow-ups are provided. We emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary cross talk between neurologists and psychiatrists to ensure adequate management of this dangerous condition. Knowledge and gaps in the field of autoimmune psychosis are also discussed. In the current pandemic, the global consensus between all stakeholders is the basic key to achieve success against COVID-19. In the last few months, global discrimination toward COVID-19 vaccine has continually been observed from the world's leading stakeholders and that has led to instability toward the acceptability of COVID-19 vaccine.Studies regarding executive functions (EFs) in children rarely focus on populations of North Africa countries. In this context, this research aimed to adapt EFs tests to the Moroccan context and provide preliminary normative data on the development of inhibitory control and working memory (WM). In addition, the executive performance of school-age Moroccan children was examined, as well as the effects of gender, parents' education level and multilingualism. The sample included 115 children at age 7 to 12 from Fes city. Results showed that the translation and adaptation steps were sufficient for the cross-cultural adaptation of the tasks. In addition, an overall effect of age on inhibition and WM performances was found, whereas gender and parents' education level showed non-significant effects. Multilingualism effects had a partial positive influence on EFs, with improved scores on a few executive tasks for multilingual children compared to their bilingual peers. Overall, results suggest that EFs in school-age Moroccan children operate on relatively homogeneous development trajectories, marked by improvements that differ according to tasks. As neuropsychological tools and normative data are still lacking in Morocco, this study helps better understand EFs development of children in this country.Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders caused by spongiform degeneration of the brain. Understanding the fundamental mechanism of prion protein aggregation caused by mutations is very crucial to resolve the pathology of prion diseases. To help understand the roles of individual residues on the stability of the human prion protein, the computational method of free energy simulations based on atomistic molecular dynamics trajectories is applied to Phe175 → Ala, Val180 → Ala, and Val209 → Ala mutations of the human prion protein. The simulations show that all three alanine mutations destabilize the human prion protein. The calculated free energy change differences, ΔΔG, for the Phe175 → Ala, Val180 → Ala, and Val209 → Ala mutations are in good agreement with the experimental values. The significant destabilizing effects on the mutants relative to the wild-type protein arise from van der Waals terms. Furthermore, our free energy decomposition analysis shows that the major contribution to destabilizing the V180A and V209A mutants relative to the wild-type protein is originated from van der Waals interactions from residues near the mutation sites. In contrast, the contribution to destabilizing the F175A mutant is mainly caused by van der Waals interactions from residues near and far away from the mutation site. Our results show that the free energy simulation with a thermodynamic integration approach for selected alanine scanning mutations is beneficial for understanding the detailed mechanism of human prion protein destabilization, specific residues' role, and the hydrophobic effect on protein stability.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.Although approximately 31,000 Australian gay and bisexual men (GBM) are eligible for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), only 18,500 people currently use it, indicating a need to investigate why GBM do not use it. This article uses data from a national, online, observational study. It adopts a mixed-methods analysis to responses to survey questions asking about reasons Australian GBM were not using PrEP in 2018, according to their level of HIV risk as delineated by the Australian PrEP prescribing guidelines at the time. Participants responded to check-box questions and had the option to respond to a qualitative free-text question. Results showed that just over one-fifth of men were at higher risk of HIV acquisition. Compared to lower-risk men, higher-risk men were more likely to indicate PrEP was too expensive and more likely to cite embarrassment asking for it. Reasons for not using PrEP included a lack of personal relevance, poor accessibility or knowledge, concerns about PrEP's inability to protect against STIs, potential side effects, and a preference for condoms. We conclude that health promotion more effectively targeting GBM who may benefit the most from PrEP may be valuable. The linking of ethacrynic acid with ethylenediamine and 1,4-butanediamine gave EDEA and BDEA, respectively, as membrane-permeable divalent pro-inhibitors of glutathione S-transferase (GST). Their divalent glutathione conjugates showed subnanomolar inhibition and divalence-binding to GSTmu (GSTM) (PDB 5HWL) at ∼0.35 min-1. In cisplatin-resistant SK-OV-3, COC1, SGC7901 and A549 cells, GSTM activities probed by 15 nM BDEA or EDEA revealed 5-fold and 1.0-fold increases in cisplatin-resistant SK-OV-3 and COC1 cells, respectively, in comparison with the susceptible parental cells. Being tolerable by HEK293 and LO2 cells, BDEA at 0.2 μM sensitised resistant SK-OV-3 and COC1 cells by ∼3- and ∼5-folds, respectively, released cytochrome c and increased apoptosis; EDEA at 1.0 μM sensitised resistant SK-OV-3 and A549 cells by ∼5- and ∼7-fold, respectively. EDEA at 1.7 μg/g sensitised resistant SK-OV-3 cells to cisplatin at 3.3 μg/g in nude mouse xenograft model. BDEA and EDEA are promising leads for probing cellular GSTM and sensitising cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancers.China's immunization programme is relatively strong, with latest WHO-UNICEF monitoring rates for 2019 showing national vaccination coverage over 90%. However, vaccination coverage is heterogeneous, varying across geographic regions, rural-urban communities, and sub-populations. We conducted a qualitative study from a critical realist perspective, analyzing semi-structured interviews with 26 vaccination providers in three provinces, selected to represent regional socioeconomic disparities across Eastern, Central, and Western China. We analyzed data thematically, using deductive and inductive coding. Providers reported vaccination coverage in their areas had increased significantly, but remained lower among migrant and left-behind children. Main coverage determinants were child-related (i.e. gender, number, health status), caregiver-related (i.e. socioeconomic status, role, education level, ethnicity), institution-related (i.e. vaccinator numbers, information system, appointment process), and system-related (i.
