The in vivo experimental results of CSE combined with LPS were consistent with the cellular results of CSE combined with LPS, which provides a model and basis for other studies of the role of MRP2 in pulmonary inflammation.Aim To assess and compare the diagnostic accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) for detecting the extent of tumor invasion in eyes with advanced retinoblastoma prior to enucleation using histopathologic analysis as a reference. Methods A total of 56 patients (68 eyes) enucleated for retinoblastoma were reviewed. Eyes with complete data (CT 28, MRI 16) were included for analysis. Imaging data were reviewed by a pediatric radiologist, blinded to histopathology results. Four high-risk factors which included scleral, choroidal, anterior eye segment invasion, and postlaminar optic nerve invasion were assessed. Results For CT, the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), sensitivity, and specificity for detecting postlaminar optic nerve invasion were 1.7%, 25%, and 83.3%. Choroidal invasion was correctly identified in only 2 of 10 eyes (DOR 0.5, sensitivity 20%, specificity 66.7%). For scleral invasion, CT showed a diagnostic ratio of 1.5%, sensitivity 40%, specificity 69.6% whereas for anterior segment invasion DOR was 9.2%, sensitivity 100%, and specificity 65.4%. MRI showed a higher DOR for detecting postlaminar optic nerve invasion of 39%, sensitivity 77.8%, and specificity 100%. Choroidal and scleral invasion on MRI had a DOR of 6.5% (sensitivity 25%, specificity 100%) and 6% (sensitivity 33.3%, specificity 92.3%) respectively while DOR for anterior segment invasion was 1.3% (sensitivity 50%, specificity 57.1%).Conclusion CT showed a poor diagnostic accuracy for all four high-risk factors in advanced retinoblastoma and therefore may not be a useful tool for assessment of tumor extension. For MRI, detection of postlaminar optic nerve invasion was moderately accurate although less accurate for detection of other risk factors. Decision-making for each child should not be based on any single parameter but rather on consideration of clinical factors in combination with radiologic findings. We report two fatal cases of rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis associated with COVID-19 infection. Both patients had pre-existing diabetes mellitus type 2, were treated with corticosteroids, and developed ketoacidosis. Both patients rapidly declined owing to rapid extension of the infection into the intracranial cavity. We postulate that additional risk factors for opportunistic fungal infection exist in COVID-19 patients including mechanical ventilation and Sars-CoV-2 induced immunosuppression. The ophthalmologist's role is particularly important in the early diagnosis of mucormycosis associated with COVID-19.Small molecule modulators of mitochondrial function have been attracted much attention in recent years due to their potential therapeutic applications for neurodegenerative diseases. The mitochondrial translocator protein (TSPO) is a promising target for such compounds, given its involvement in the formation of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore in response to mitochondrial stress. In this study, we performed a ligand-based pharmacophore design and virtual screening, and identified a potent hit compound, 7 (VH34) as a TSPO ligand. After validating its biological activity against amyloid-β (Aβ) induced mitochondrial dysfunction and in acute and transgenic Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mice, we developed a library of analogs, and we found two most active compounds, 31 and 44, which restored the mitochondrial membrane potential, ATP production, and cell viability under Aβ-induced mitochondrial toxicity. These compounds recovered learning and memory function in acute AD model mice with improved pharmacokinetic properties.
This study aimed to examine hearing-related information in public school textbooks in Malaysia to gain insight into the country's hearing health education.
Qualitative content analysis on all textbooks used in Malaysian public schools in the year 2019 were conducted to identify the content and structure of information delivery through 11 years of formal education. Information related to hearing health was extracted and categorised according to the themes that emerged. Further analysis was done to characterise the usefulness of the information in promoting active hearing care based on the type of information delivered.
A total of 148 elementary and secondary school textbooks were reviewed.
Fourteen textbooks (4 elementary and 10 secondary levels) were found to have relevant hearing health information covering topics of sound, ear and hearing, noise and hearing loss. The contents were mostly theoretical and lacked information about noise-induced hearing loss and proper hearing care.
Minimal hearing health information was present in the Malaysian school curriculum. The content was inadequate for teaching students about hearing loss prevention. Areas of improvement and research are recommended to improve school-based hearing health education in Malaysia.

Patients' history, initial presentation, best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), clinical signs, topographic data, and treatment were recorded.RESULTS Thirty patients were younger than 14 years and 50 were 14 years or older. Elements of the initial presentation included decreased vision in 26 patients, itching in 20 patients, both visual impairment and itching in 16 patients, accidental discovery during vision screening at school in 15 patients, and hydrops in three patients. All patients had bilateral keratoconus, except for four patients who had previously been treated by keratoplasty (n = 156 eyes). The uate intervention.Dual targeting of surface receptors with bispecific antibodies is attracting increasing interest in cancer therapy. Here, we present a novel bivalent and bispecific antagonistic molecule (Dab-Fc) targeting human epidermal growth factors 2 and 3 (HER2 and HER3) derived from the Db-Ig platform, which was developed for the generation of multivalent and multispecific antibody molecules. Dab-Fc comprises the variable domains of the anti-HER2 antibody trastuzumab and the anti-HER3 antibody 3-43 assembled into a diabody-like structure stabilized by CH1 and CL domains and further fused to a human γ1 Fc region. The resulting Dab-Fc 2 × 3 molecule retained unhindered binding to both antigens and was able to bind both antigens sequentially. In cellular experiments, the Dab-Fc 2 × 3 molecule strongly bound to different tumor cell lines expressing HER2 and HER3 and was efficiently internalized. This was associated with potent inhibition of the proliferation and migration of these tumor cell lines. Furthermore, IgG-like pharmacokinetics and anti-tumoral activity were demonstrated in a xenograft tumor model of the gastric cancer cell-line NCI-N87. These results illustrate the suitability of our versatile Db-Ig platform technology for the generation of bivalent bispecific molecules, which has been successfully used here for the dual targeting of HER2 and HER3.The nutritional value of some tree leaves (grape, common fig, barberry, sweet cherry, apricot, peach, and oleaster) was investigated by in vitro and common laboratory methods. Also, thirty Baluchi male lambs were randomly divided into five groups, including one control group (alfalfa) and four experimental groups, which received diets containing different leaves (barberry, apricot, peach, and grape). The crude protein content ranged from 128 for the sweet cherry to 164 g/kg DM for grape. Common fig and barberry had the greatest and lowest calcium (29.3 vs. 11.5 g/kg DM), respectively (p less then 0.001). The greatest total volatile fatty acids, dry matter and organic matter digestibilities, as well as potential gas production, were observed in barberry leaves (p less then 0.001). Apricot had the greatest acid-base buffering capacity (245 mEq × 10-3) (p less then 0.001). Lambs fed with barberry had a greater average daily gain (179 g/day, p = 0.013). The results of in vitro and in vivo indicated that barberry leaves had a greater nutritional value among the studied leaves. It is concluded that alfalfa can be replaced with barberry, apricot, peach, and grape leaves up to 250 g/kg DM in diet without deleterious effects on performance, nutrient digestibility, blood metabolites, and hematology. The plants originated from an agroforestry system have gained immense importance in livestock health and production. The trial was planned to examine the effects of Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MLE) supplementation on the performance, blood metabolites, immunity and lipid peroxidation in broiler chicks. A total of 350 day old broiler chicks were divided into negative control (MLE0), positive control (antibiotic; AB-enro), M. oleifera supplementation at the concentration of 60 (MLE60), 90 (MLE90) and 120 mL/L (MLE120) of drinking water. Performance parameters such as feed intake, body weight and feed conversion ratio, antibody titer against Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis, heterophils and lymphocytes ratio, blood glucose, protein, and malanodialdehyde were determined. The results showed that carcass yield was significantly (p less then 0.05) higher in MLE90 followed by MLE120 and AB-enro. MLE60 and MLE90 showed significant (p less then 0.05) increase in antibody titer against New-castle (ND) and Infectious-bronchitis (IB) respectively. Significantly (p less then 0.05) lower Heterophil to lymphocyte (HL) ratio was observed in MLE90 and MLE120 compared to the negative control. Significantly (p less then 0.05) lower blood glucose concentration and significantly (p less then 0.05) higher mean serum protein value were found in MLE120. The MLE120 showed significantly (p less then 0.05) lower concentration of malanodialdehyde (MDA). read more It was concluded that M. oleifera leaf extract supplementation at the concentration of 120 mL/L of drinking water improved carcass yield, immunity, blood metabolites and reduced lipid peroxidation in broiler chicks.HighlightsMoringa improved the carcass yield of broilerMoringa is an excellent immune potentiating agent in broilerMoringa enhanced the antioxidant potential of broiler.
