For a healthy parturient, a cardiopulmonary collapse that suddenly occurs shortly after an uneventful caesarean section is a relatively rare event and presents a significant challenge for the anesthesia provider.

Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is characterized by acute and rapid collapse and is well known to the obstetric team. Our patient experienced sudden cardiovascular collapse, severe respiratory difficulty and hypoxia, in the absence of other explanations for these findings at the time, and thus AFE was immediately become the focus of the consideration. However, there is no quick, standard laboratory test for AFE, therefore the diagnosis is one of exclusion based on presenting symptoms and clinical course. After given symptomatic treatment, the patient made an uneventful initial recovery in a short period and developed a rash. We recognized that the postpartum shock was associated with delayed anaphylaxis of antibiotics.

These observations have implications for understanding whenever administering drugs in surgery, which may affect the anesthesiologist's judgment regarding the complications of anesthesia. Even though serious complications of common perioperative drugs may rarely occur, anesthesia providers should be aware of the consideration. Early recognition and effective treatment are more important than prompt diagnosis.

Glioma was the most common type of intracranial malignant tumor. Even after standard treatment, the recurrence and malignant progression of lower-grade gliomas (LGGs) were almost inevitable. The overall survival (OS) of patients with LGG varied widely, making it critical for prognostic prediction. Small G Protein Signaling Modulator 1 (SGSM1) has hardly been studied in gliomas. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the prognostic role ofSGSM1and its relationship with immune infiltration in LGGs.

We obtained RNA sequencing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to analyzeSGSM1expression. Functional enrichment analyses, immune infiltration analyses, immune checkpoint analyses, and clinicopathology analyses were performed. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify independent prognostic factors. And nomogram model has been developed. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank test were used to estimate the relationship between OS andSGSM1expression. The survival analyses and Cox regression were validated in datasets from the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA).

SGSM1 was significantly down-regulated in LGGs. Functional enrichment analyses revealedSGSM1was correlated with immune response. Most immune cells and immune checkpoints were negatively correlated withSGSM1expression. The Kaplan-Meier analyses showed that lowSGSM1expression was associated with a poor outcome in LGG and its subtypes. The Cox regression showedSGSM1was an independent prognostic factor in patients with LGG (HR = 0.494, 95%CI = 0.311-0.784, P = 0.003).

SGSM1was considered to be a new prognostic biomarker for patients with LGG. And our study provided a potential therapeutic target for LGG treatment.

The importance of local breeds as genetic reservoirs of valuable genetic variation is well established. Pig breeding in Central and South-Eastern Europe has a long tradition that led to the formation of several local pig breeds. In the present study, genetic diversity parameters were analysed in six autochthonous pig breeds from Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia (Banija spotted, Black Slavonian, Turopolje pig, Swallow-bellied Mangalitsa, Moravka and Krskopolje pig). Animals from each of these breeds were genotyped using microsatellites and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The results obtained with these two marker systems and those based on pedigree data were compared. In addition, we estimated inbreeding levels based on the distribution of runs of homozygosity (ROH) and identified genomic regions under selection pressure using ROH islands and the integrated haplotype score (iHS).

The lowest heterozygosity values calculated from microsatellite and SNP data were observed in the Turopolje pig. The observeof relationships among the six pig breeds analysed here. Analysis of the distribution of ROH allowed us to estimate the level of inbreeding and the extent of homozygous regions in these breeds. The iHS analysis revealed genomic regions potentially associated with phenotypic traits and allowed the detection of genomic regions under selection pressure.

To explore the value of the quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) parameters in assessing preoperative extramural venous invasion (EMVI) in rectal cancer.

Eighty-two rectal adenocarcinoma patients who had underwent MRI preoperatively were enrolled in this study. The differences in quantitative DCE-MRI and DWI parameters including Krans, Kep and ADC values were analyzed between MR-detected EMVI (mrEMVI)-positive and -negative groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to build the combined prediction model for pathologic EMVI (pEMVI) with statistically significant quantitative parameters. The performance of the model for predicting pEMVI was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Of the 82 patients, 24 were mrEMVI-positive and 58 were -negative. In the mrEMVI positive group, the Ktrans and Kep values were significantly higher than those in the mrEMVI negative group (P < 0.01), but the ADC values were significantly lower (P < 0.01). A negative correlation was observed between the Ktrans vs ADC values and Kep vs ADC values in patients with rectal cancer. Among the four quantitative parameters, Ktrans and ADC value were independently associated with mrEMVI by multivariate logistic regression analysis. ROC analysis showed that combined prediction model based on quantitative DCE parameters and ADC values had a good prediction efficiency for pEMVI in rectal cancer.

The quantitative DCE-MRI parameters, Krans, Kep and ADC values play important role in predicting EMVI of rectal cancer, with Ktrans and ADC value being independent predictors of EMVI in rectal cancer.

Suicidal ideation is a major risk factor for suicide and can negatively affect self-care and health behaviors among the older adults. There are limited data on the prevalence and risk factors of suicidal ideation among the older population during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the present study was to examine the prevalence and risk factors of suicidal ideations among Iranian older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 803 older community adults in Shiraz (Southwestern Iran) were surveyed to determine potential factors influencing suicidal ideation, including demographic factors, physical health status, access to healthcare, current depression status, fear of COVID-19, perceived social support, and social engagement. Data were collected utilizing face-to-face interviews between November and December 2020. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent variables associated with suicidal ideations.

Among the 803 participants, 69 reported suicidal ideations (8.6%). on between suicidal ideations and the COVID-19 pandemic. Systematic monitoring of suicidal ideation is recommended among high-risk groups, particularly the older population.
Prediction and classification algorithms are commonly used in clinical research for identifying patients susceptible to clinical conditions such as diabetes, colon cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. Developing accurate prediction and classification methods benefits personalized medicine. Building an excellent predictive model involves selecting the features that are most significantly associated with the outcome. These features can include several biological and demographic characteristics, such as genomic biomarkers and health history. Such variable selection becomes challenging when the number of potential predictors is large. Bayesian shrinkage models have emerged as popular and flexible methods of variable selection in regression settings. This work discusses variable selection with three shrinkage priors and illustrates its application to clinical data such as Pima Indians Diabetes, Colon cancer, ADNI, and OASIS Alzheimer's real-worlddata.

A unified Bayesian hierarchical framework that implements and cnificant variables for disease risk prediction and is computationally efficient.

The models are robust enough to conduct both variable selection and prediction because of their high shrinkage properties and applicability to a broad range of classification problems.

Injury is one of the major causes of death and illness among children and adolescents worldwide. We sought to investigate the prevalence of serious injury and its associated factors among in-school adolescents in eight countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

A sample of 14,967 in-school adolescents was drawn from the Global School-based Student Health Surveys conducted from 2012 to 2017 in eight sub-Saharan African countries. Data were collected using self-administered structured questionnaires. The prevalence of serious injuries was calculated using proportions while multivariable binary logistic regression analysis was carried out to determine the factors associated with serious injuries.

Approximately 45% of in-school adolescents had experienced serious injuries during the past 12 months to the surveyin the eight sub-Saharan African countries, with variations from 32.3% in Mauritius to 68.2% in Liberia. Adolescents who experienced bullying [aOR = 2.37, CI = 2.10, 2.68], those who engaged in physical fight [relatively high prevalence of serious injuries among in-school adolescents was identified in the eight sub-Saharan African countries studied. Programs and interventions that target the reduction of injuries in educational institutions should take a keen interest in the factors identified in this study. To deal with injury victims, first aid services should be provided in school settings.
