001). Substantial SIJ degeneration or ankylosis (type 2 or 3) was observed on 62.5% of longer leg sides and 33.6% of shorter leg sides. Factors significantly associated with SIJ degeneration severity were percent hip subluxation and leg length discrepancy for the longer leg side and body weight and body mass index (BMI) for the shorter leg side. Patients with worse degeneration on the shorter leg side (9.9%) had significantly larger BMI and longer sagittal vertical axis, whereas patients with worse degeneration on the longer leg side (46.7%) had significantly longer leg length discrepancy. CONCLUSION Severe SIJ degeneration was common in patients with end-stage hip osteoarthritis secondary to unilateral DDH. Patients with worse SIJ degeneration on the longer leg side had more hip subluxation, whereas patients with worse SIJ degeneration on the shorter leg (DDH) side tended to have sagittal spinal imbalance and greater body weight with larger BMI. V.BACKGROUND Orthopedic complications can cause issues and severe disability in patients with dwarfism. Thus, these individuals frequently undergo total hip arthroplasty to mitigate decline in daily functioning. Although studies have reported on the difficulties of orthopedic surgery in patients with dwarfism, many do not clearly define dwarfism and have a short follow-up period. We aimed to retrospectively investigate the clinical and radiographic results of total hip arthroplasty for patients with dwarfism. METHODS A total of 68 hips of 49 patients with height 5 mm was observed in 9 hips. Presence of Crowe IV in hips was a significant risk factor for total hip arthroplasty in patients with dwarfism (p less then 0.05); leg lengthening had a weak but significant correlation (r = 0.253, p less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Total hip arthroplasty using conventional cementless implants for patients with dwarfism shows good clinical and radiological outcomes and has a relatively low perioperative risk. BACKGROUD Exercises and vitamin D interventions have shown to improve muscle function and balance, and prevent falls in postmenopausal healthy women and in patients with osteoporosis. However, the effects of eldecalcitol on these factors remain undetermined. The present open-label, randomized, controlled study aimed to investigate the effects of eldecalcitol treatment in reducing falls in postmenopausal women, and improving muscle function and balance. METHODS The study population included 226 Japanese postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Patients were randomly divided into two groups on the basis of treatment with or without eldecalcitol (0.75 μg/day). Treatment continued for 6 months. Participants in both groups were instructed to perform back extensor muscle exercise. Isometric back extensor and leg extensor strength, grip power, ten-meter walking speed, timed up and go test and time of single leg standing were measured at baseline and 24 weeks. Patients were asked to record the number of falls during the 24-week period. RESULTS The percentage increase in average bilateral quadriceps muscle strength was significantly higher in the eldecalcitol group compared with the non-eldecalcitol group (right, p = 0.041; left, p = 0.042). In contrast, there were no significant differences in the strength of back muscles and grip power and the parameters of balance and walking abilities between the groups. There was no significant difference in the number of falls between the groups. CONCLUSIONS A 24-week intervention of eldecalcitol improves the strength of the quadriceps muscles in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. However, eldecalcitol neither improve balance and walking abilities nor reduce the number of falls. V.INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to compare a dental operating microscope (DOM) with a high-resolution videoscope (VS) in terms of depth of field (DOF), resolution, and effect on fine motor skills. ATM/ATR inhibition METHODS Two observers used test targets to measure the resolution and DOF of the DOM and the VS. In addition, 18 participants (12 dental students and 6 endodontic residents) performed an accuracy test on a manikin head using DOM, VS, or loupes. Each participant completed a posttest survey. RESULTS The 3 magnifications of the DOM had higher resolutions and DOF (resolution 32, 40.3, and 50.8 line pairs/mm; DOF 15, 10, and 6 mm) than the VS (resolution 20.1 line pairs/mm; DOF 5 mm). Accuracy testing showed the DOM produced better results than the VS for both resident and student groups (P less then .001); however, the VS was not significantly different than loupes. The residents performed better than the students using the DOM and the VS (P less then .001). The students in general took 1.3 times longer than the residents to perform the accuracy test, irrespective of the magnification device used. The DOM and the VS required on average 1.9 and 2.8 times longer compared with loupes, respectively. Most participants reported a preference for the DOM with regard to visualization and ease of use. Comments also suggested that the VS has value in diagnosis and magnification in endodontics. CONCLUSIONS Considering the findings from this study, the DOM stands out as the leading magnification tool in endodontics. However, the VS has potential in endodontic procedures and might be used as an adjunct to other visualization aids. INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to evaluate the volume of irrigant extrusion by different final agitation techniques in experimental models of immature teeth. METHODS Fifteen single roots of mandibular premolars with a length of 14 mm and an open apex were used to form 6 groups according to the final agitation technique group 1, positive pressure and no agitation; group 2, ultrasonic agitation with Irrisonic (Helse Dental Technology, Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Brazil); group 3, ultrasonic agitation with Irrisonic Power (Helse Dental Technology); group 4, mechanical agitation with Easy Clean (Easy Dental Equipment, Belo Horizonte, Brazil); group 5, mechanical agitation with XP-endo Finisher (FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland); and group 6, sonic agitation with Eddy (VDW, Munich, Germany). A prototype was made from an Eppendorf plastic tube filled with agar to fix the tooth and to collect the extruded irrigant. Ioditrast 76 (Justesa Imagen Mexicana, Tlalpan, Mexico) contrast solution was used to simulate the irrigant.
