All rights reserved.Objectives The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the correlation between coracohumeral ligament (CHL) thickness and restricted shoulder range of motion (ROM) in patients with adhesive capsulitis (AC) using ultrasound measurements. The secondary objective is to investigate the correlation between CHL thickness and disease duration. Design Prospective cross-sectional survey. Setting Clinical research of Tertiary Care Hospital. Methods Overall, 65 patients with clinically diagnosed AC were enrolled. Ultrasound measurements of CHL thickness in the axial oblique plane were obtained under maximal external rotation of the glenohumeral joint. Both Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) and shoulder ROM were prospectively evaluated by an experienced investigator. CHL thickness was compared with shoulder ROM and SPADI. The association between CHL thickness and disease duration was also investigated. Results Simple linear regression analysis showed significant inverse correlation between CHL thickness agnosis of AC, leading to early intervention and treatment options. In the present case, the patient was a 78-year-old man who presented to our emergency department with a chief complaint of right inguinal bulge and pain. CT imaging revealed an incarcerated right inguinal hernia containing the small intestine and a portion of the urinary bladder. We performed manual reduction of the incarcerated intestine, and he was admitted to the surgical ward for follow-up. On the 19th day after discharge, recurrence of incarceration developed, and he was readmitted after manual reduction. A laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair was performed. After careful reduction of the protruding bladder from the hernial orifice, we repaired the right inguinal hernia with a mesh prosthesis. We experienced a rare case of right indirect inguinal bladder hernia that was treated successfully with laparoscopic repair.Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have rapidly become the drug class of choice for anticoagulation therapy in secondary care. It is known that gastrointestinal hemorrhage are potential side effects of the DOAC drug class. In this study we have investigated the relevance of molecular structure and on/off-target pharmacology as a predictor of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) for the DOAC drug class. Use of the Reaxys MedChem module allowed for data mining of all possible reported off-target effects of the DOAC class members. For the first time, the MHRA Yellow card database in combination with prescribing rates in the United Kingdom (data for n = 30 566 936 DOAC Rx (up to 2017) and ADR data n = 22 275 (up to 2018)) were used for our data comparison of DOACs. From the underlying reported data, we were able to rank the DOACs in terms of the likely adverse events we would expect to observe. We identified potential risks of ADRs based on the DOACs pharmacology including the expected GI hemorrhage, but also the unexpected risk of stroke, pulmonary embolism and kidney injury. Statistically significant (P less then .001) differences were found between all DOACs and their total number of ADRs. Although the risks are small, strong statistical correlation between observed pharmacology and national ADR data is observed in three out of the five areas of concern.A fluorescent probe L-Cu2+ based on quinoline, coumarin and Cu2+ has been synthesized and characterized for hypochlorite determination. After copper ion was added to the solution of ligand L, the fluorescence quenching at 490 nm might result from a ligand-metal charge transfer (LMCT) process and its strong coordination ability for Cu2+ . In the presence of hypochlorite, the structure of ligand L was destroyed to form 7-(diethylamino)-coumarin-3-carboxylic acid, and the fluorescence was restored at 460 nm. We aimed to compare the generic and disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among men with prostate cancer in the screening arm with the control arm of the PSA-based prostate cancer screening trial in up to 15 years of follow-up. Materials and methods This study was conducted within population-based Finnish Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (FinRSPC). During 1996-1999 80,458 men were randomized to the serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening arm (SA, N = 32 000) and the control arm (CA, N = 48 458). Men in the screening arm were screened at 4-year intervals until 2007. HRQOL questionnaires were delivered to newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients in the screening and control arm 1996-2006 (N = 5128) at the time of diagnosis (baseline), at 3-month, 12-month and 5, 10, and 15-year follow-up. Validated UCLA Prostate Cancer Index (UCLA-PCI) and RAND 36-Item Health Survey were used for HRQOL assessment. The data were analyzed with a random effects model for repeated measures. Results At baseline, men with prostate cancer in the screening arm reported better Sexual Function, as well as less Sexual and Urinary Bother. Long-term follow-up revealed slightly higher HRQOL scores in the screening arm in prostate cancer specific measures at 10-year post diagnosis, but the differences were statistically significant only in Urinary Bother (UCLA-PCI score 77.9; 95% CI 75.2 to 80.5 vs. 70.9; 95% CI 66.8 to 74.9 P = .005). The generic HRQOL scores were comparable between the trial arms. The overall differences in disease-specific or generic HRQOL scores by trial arm did not vary during the follow-up. Conclusion No major differences were observed in HRQOL in men with prostate cancer between the prostate cancer screening and control arms during five to 15-year follow-up.Aim of the study Effect of internalized phthalyl starch nanoparticles (PSNs) on the antimicrobial ability of Lactococcus lactis (LL) KCTC 2013. Furthermore, electrochemical testing results show that the 7 h-NiS2 catalyst exhibits a remarkable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity with an overpotential of 311 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH, superior to precious metal RuO2 . This work will contributes to the rational design and the understanding of growth mechanism of transition metal chalcogenide electrocatalysts for diverse energy conversion technologies.Aim To evaluate the relationship between physiological and psychological stress on pregnancy outcome in women undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) treatment. Methods Women undergoing the first IVF cycle were enrolled to complete the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Their blood samples were collected on the 3rd day of the menstrual cycle to measure 5-hydroxytryptamine, renin, norepinephrine, angiotensin II and cortisol. Salivary amylase was obtained on the embryo transfer day. Results Compared with normal women who came to the hospital for regular physical examination, the incidence of anxiety and depression was higher in women seeking for IVF treatment. After psychological intervention, the condition got improved and the incidence of anxiety and depression was 6.25% and 7.81% separately in these women. There were no significant differences between the anxiety scores in women with and without pregnancy. The depression scores did show some statistically differences, with higher scores in the nonpregnancy group.
