COVID-19 is considered asystemic disease. Asevere course with fatal outcome is possible and unpredictable.
Which organ systems are predominantly involved? Which diseases are predisposed for afatal course? Which organ changes are found with lethal outcome?
Data from published autopsy studies (28cases by our group) with respect to organ changes and possible cause of death.
The most severe alterations are found in the lungs by diffuse alveolar damage as asymptom of an acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), in part with fibrosis. Thrombosis of small- to mid-sized pulmonary arteries is associated with hemorrhagic lung infarction. Frequent complications are bacterial pneumonias and less frequently fungal pneumonias by aspergillus. Pulmonary thromboembolism is found in 20-30% of lethal courses, also in the absence of deep venous thrombosis. Intestinal involvement of COVID-19 can be associated with intestinal ischemia, caused by shock or local thrombosis. In most cases, the kidneys display acute tubular rophylaxis.
The influence of the administration method used to collect oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children remains largely unknown. The aim of this study was to determine whether the OHRQoL information obtained using the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) differed with different methods of data collection (face-to-face interview, telephone, or self-administered questionnaire).
The OHRQoL of 38 preschool children, aged 1 to 5 years, was measured using the German version of the ECOHIS. The instrument was administered to the caregivers of these children using three different methods, with an interval of 1 week between each administration. Test-retest reliability for the repeated ECOHIS-G assessments across the three methods of administration, agreement, and convergent validity was determined.
Kappa coefficients for agreement between two different methods of administration, respectively, ranged from moderate to substantial (0.47 to 0.65). Test-retest reliability was moderate (ICC 0.65-0.79).
In conclusion, the three methods of administration (face-to-face interview, telephone interview, or self-administered questionnaire) of the ECOHIS-G were comparable in 1- to 5-year-old preschool children.
All three methods of administration can be used to obtain valid and reliable OHRQoL information in German speaking countries.

The strain was able to grow at pH 6.8-8.5 (optimum at pH 7.5), in 1-7% (w/v) NaCl (optimum at 3%, w/v) and at 10-30 °C (optimum at 30 °C). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain 176CP5-101 T belonged to the family Flavobacteriaceae and was most closely related to Flagellimonas aquimarina KCTC 52351 T (97.1%), F. algicola KACC 19790 T (97.0%), F. pacifica KCTC 52762 T (96.9%), F. eckloniae KCCM 42307 T (96.4%), F. flava KCTC 22665 T (96.0%), and F. maritima KCTC 32464 T (95.4%). selleck inhibitor Average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values between strain 176CP5-101 T and F. aquimarina KCTC 52351 T were, respectively, 79.9% and 22.1%, indicating that 176CP5-101 T is a novel species of the genus Flagellimonas. The DNA G + C content of the genomic DNA was 37.8 mol%. Menaquinone with six isoprene units (MK-6) was the major respiratory quinone, and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), unidentified aminophospholipid, and unidentified lipids. The fatty acids are mainly (> 5%) defined iso-C150, iso-C150 3-OH, iso-C151 G, iso-C170 3-OH, and C161 ω7c and/or C161 ω6c (summed feature 3). Phenotypic, phylogenetic, genomic, and chemotaxonomic characteristics showed that strain 176CP5-101 T represents a novel species of the genus Flagellimonas, for which the name Flagellimonas hymeniacidonis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 176CP5-101 T (= KACC 19892 T = LMG 31316 T).
Hip fracture is a severe complication of osteoporosis and is associated with a significant healthcare burden worldwide. This meta-analysis explores the association between combined multivitamin use and hip fracture risk. Our results provide more patient-centered insight into the impact of supplement use on osteoporosis outcomes.
We searched three online databases in August 2019 and included studies that reported on multivitamin use in patients with osteoporotic hip fractures. The inclusion criteria were (1) adult patients with osteoporotic hip fractures, (2) availability of full-text articles in English, and (3) at least 1 year of follow-up. No suitable randomized controlled trials could be identified for inclusion in the analysis. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS).
Eight studies containing 80,148 subjects in total were included in this study. Among these, 4237 cases of fragility hip fracture were reported. The average age was 69±5.3 years, and 21% of subjects were male. Multivitamin use was found to be significantly associated with a lower risk of sustaining a fragility hip fracture (OR 0.49, 95%CI 0.32-0.77). The Begg and Mazumdar test and funnel plot indicated that no significant publication bias was present.
Combined multivitamins are amongst the most widely used supplements and are often preferred over single vitamins. Our meta-analysis indicates that multivitamin use is significantly protective against osteoporotic hip fracture. In the future, randomized controlled trials should be performed to establish multivitamins as effective preventative measures for this injury.

However, a comprehensive understanding of the compatibility behavior and mechanism of asphalt components and nano-SiO2 in the modified asphalt is still limited. In this study, the compatibility was revealed through molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Virgin asphalt, nano-SiO2-modified asphalt, and oxidation aged asphalt models produced with the COMPASS force field; meanwhile, the proposed models were validated by comparisons with reference data. The compatibility of asphalt and nano-SiO2 was analyzed by solubility and the Flory-Huggins parameters and interaction energy. Results show that the solubility parameters decreased with the increase of system temperature while increased with the asphalt's oxidation level increase. Meanwhile, the compatibility of the asphaltene, resin, and aromatic components in asphalt is better than the compatibility with saturates, which may be due to saturates being volatile; however, the compatibility of the nano-SiO2 and saturates is much better than those with asphaltene, resin, and aromatic components. The incorporation of nano-SiO2 alleviates the volatilization of saturates. The present results provide insights into the understanding of the compatibility behavior and mechanism of nano-SiO2 and asphalt components.Maintenance of certification (MOC) is thought to be an important tool in assessing and controlling quality of medical professionals. Considerations on the heterogeneity of implementation throughout various National Radiology Associations are described. Testocracy is warned for. The urge for defining strategical steps from a central institute is discussed.
The incidence of epicanthus is extremely high in Asians. Although many techniques have been introduced to remove the epicanthus, there are still some complications. Herein, we introduced a method involving an incision on the lower palpebral margin combined with a tiny triangular flap for correction of epicanthal folds, which is always performed in combination with double eyelid plasty.
After making an incision, the ectopic medial canthal ligament was removed. The ligament pulling the medial canthus was cut along the lower palpebral margin incision, so the medial canthus could be repositioned upward. The tiny triangular flap of the medial canthus would naturally move downward and cover the lower palpebral margin incision. The skin folds on the lower palpebral margin were trimmed and sutured. After epicanthoplasty was completed, double eyelid plasty was performed using the incision or non-incision method.
A total of 547 epicanthoplasties were performed during the past 7 years. The follow-up time ranged from 1 month to 5 years. Ninety-eight percent of the patients were satisfied with the results of the epicanthoplasty. The scars in the medial canthal area were tiny, the enlargement of the medial canthus was obvious, and the double eyelid line in the medial canthal area was natural and smooth.
The introduced method is simple in design and can preserve the original shape of the medial canthus while widening the palpebral fissure, which is a particularly suitable approach for epicanthoplasty in Asian patients.

To describe a new technique for performing thigh and calf augmentation and remodelling through thigh lipotransfer, subcutaneous vertical fasciotomy and leg lipotransfer.
Patients with thin legs due to hypotrophy or hypoplasia of the medial portion of the thighs and legs as well as a patient with a prominent tibialis anterior giving the appearance of male legs were selected.
A total of 214 surgeries were performed in 107 patients with minimal complications, and most patients reported a high rate of satisfaction.
Lipotransfer with fasciotomy improves the standard results of liposculpture in body contour management, which allows balanced relationships among the waist, hips, thighs and legs to be achieved in many patients who are not candidates for the placement of silicone prostheses because their legs and thighs are thin and hypotrophic.
