For COVID-19 survivors' long-term mental and physical health, present outpatient infrastructure will be utilised, scalable healthcare models will be built, and cross-disciplinary collaboration will be required.Statistical methods have been well-developed for comparing two binary screening tests in the presence of verification bias. However, the complexity of existing methods and the computational difficulty in implementing them have restricted their use. A simple and easily implemented statistical method is therefore needed. see more In this paper, we propose a weighted McNemar's test statistic for comparing two sensitivities(specificities). The proposed test statistics are intuitive and simple to compute, only involving some minor modification of a McNemar's test statistic using the estimated verification probabilities for discordant pairs. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed weighted McNemar's test statistics preserve type I error as well as or better than the existing statistics. Furthermore, unlike the existing methods, the proposed weighted McNemar's test statistics can still be applied even when none of the accordant pairs are verified.Individuals with intellectual disability may have limited narrative skills. The novelty of this study lies in the examination of strengths and weaknesses which may enable a more facilitative approach to narrative and other storytelling-based methodologies among adults with intellectual disability who study in an academic enrichment program in comparison to typical students with the same chronological age. Seventeen adult students with intellectual disability and 16 typically developing students, produced narratives which were examined for microstructure (e.g., length, lexis, grammaticality, and complexity) macrostructure (e.g., goals, attempts, and outcomes) and Internal state terms (ISTs). The findings indicate that in spite of weakness of adults with intellectual disability in terms of coherence, syntactic complexity, and grammatical sentences, they exhibit strengths in narrative macrostructure story scheme and use IST. With increasing age, narratives performance of adults with intellectual disability continues to advance possibly due to maturity, life experience and indirect exposure to the environment. An accurately identified maximum tolerated dose (MTD) serves as the cornerstone of successful subsequent phases in oncology drug development. Bayesian logistic regression model (BLRM) is a popular and versatile model-based dose-finding design. However, BLRM with original overdose control strategy has been reported to be safe but "excessively conservative." In this article, we investigate the reason for conservativeness and point out that a major reason could be the lack of appropriate underdose control. We propose designs that balance overdose and underdose control to improve the performance over the original BLRM. Simulation results reveal that the new designs have better accuracy and treat more patients at MTD.
Left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion for atrial fibrillation (AF) is an invasive therapy that reduces stroke incidence and death. The impact of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) on patients with AF with LAA occlusion remains unknown. We aimed to evaluate the effects and safety of CR in patients with AF with LAA occlusion.

This 6-mo single-center randomized controlled trial compared an exercise-based CR program with a control group. Patients with AF who underwent LAA occlusion from December 2018 to December 2020 were randomized into two groups exercise-based CR and usual care (control). All patients underwent echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography, scale survey, physical function, and exercise capacity at baseline and at 3 and 6 mo follow-up.

There were 33 and 30 patients in the control and CR groups, respectively, in the final analysis. After the study period, the 6-min walk test distance, handgrip and leg strength, and left ventricular ejection fraction increased significantly in the CR group compared with baseline. Significant between-group differences were found in the mental and physical component summary scales, including all eight subscales, of the Short Form 36. The incidence of incomplete endothelialization in the CR group at 3 and 6 mo was significantly lower than that in the control group.

Cardiac rehabilitation was shown to accelerate device endothelialization in patients with AF with LAA occlusion, while also improving the quality of life, exercise capacity, and physical function.

In order to construct complementary circuits with n-type MoS2, another p-type semiconductor, whose performance can be adjusted corresponding to that of MoS2in the limited chip area, has to be sought. Herein, we present a method for tuning switching threshold voltages of complementary inverters simply via inkjet printing without changing their channel dimensions. Random networks of inkjet printed single-walled carbon nanotubes are formed as p-channels beside MoS2, and their density and thickness are controlled by varying the number of printed layers. As a result, p-type transistor characteristics as well as inverter characteristics are facilely tuned only by varying the number of printed layers.Li-ion batteries with conversion type anode are attractive choice, for electric vehicles and portable electronic devices, because of their high theoretical capacity and cycle stability. On the contrary, enormous volume change during lithiation/delithiation and irreversible conversion reaction limits use of such anodes. To overcome these challenges, incorporating nano-sized SnOxon flexible carbonaceous matrix is an efficient approach. A facile and scalable fabrication of SnO nanodisc decorated on SnO2quantum dots embedded carbon (SnOx@C) is reported in the present study. Detailed structural and morphological investigation confirms the successful synthesis of SnOx@C composite with 72.3 wt% SnOxloading. The CV profiles of the nanocomposite reveal a partial reversibility of conversion reaction for the active materials SnOx. Such partial reversible conversion enhances the overall capacity of the nanocomposite. It delivers a very high discharge capacity of 993 mAh g-1at current density of 0.05 A g-1after 200 cycles; which is 2.6 times higher than that of commercial graphitic anode (372 mAh g-1) and very close to the calculated capacity of the SnOx@C composite. This unique nanocomposite remarkably improves Li storage performance in terms of reversible capacity, rate capability and cycling performance. It is established that such engineered anode can efficiently reduce the electrode pulverization and in turn make conversion reaction of tin partially reversible.Lithium ion batteries (LIB) are the domain power house that gratifies the growing energy needs of the modern society. Statistical records highlight the future demand of LIB for transportation and other high energy applications. Cathodes play a significant role in enhancement of electrochemical performance of a battery, especially in terms of energy density. Therefore, numerous innovative studies have been reported for the development of new cathode materials as well as improving the performance of existing ones. Literature designate stable cathode-electrolyte interface (CEI) is vital for safe and prolonged high performance of LIBs at different cycling conditions. Considering the context, many groups shed light on stabilizing the CEI with different strategies like surface coating, surface doping and electrolyte modulation. Local temperature variation across the globe is another major factor that influences the application and deployment of LIB chemistries. In this review, we discuss the importance of nano-scale engineering strategies on different class of cathode materials for their improved CEI and hence their low and high temperature performances. Based on the literature reviewed, the best nano-scale engineering strategies investigated for each cathode material have been identified and described. Finally, we discuss the advantages, limitations and future directions for enabling high performance cathode materials for a wide range of applications.Mechanistic understanding of immunoglobulin G (IgG) binding to protein A is crucial for the design and development of high-performance protein A chromatography. In this work, the IgG binding domain (Z) of protein A from Staphylococcus aureus was genetically modified by introducing a cysteine residue at the N-terminus (Cys-Z) or a cysteine-lysine dipeptide at the C-terminus (Z-Cys), and the two ligands were used to unravel the IgG binding mechanism by means of binding kinetics and different single molecule measurements. Surface plasma resonance (SPR) measurement of the binding kinetics of mouse myeloma IgG2a (mIgG2a) to the two ligands indicated that oriented ligand immobilization significantly increased the association rate constant of mIgG2a, and Z-Cys had the highest binding affinity to mIgG2a among the three ligands (Cys-Z, Z-Cys and Z). This was attributed to the synergistic contribution of the high association rate constant and low dissociation rate constant to mIgG2a. Furthermore, quartz crystal microbalance with energy dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) measurement provided the maximum adsorption densities of IgGs on the Z-Cys-immobilized chip as zeta potentials of IgGs were nearly zero. The QCM-D investigation revealed that the adsorbed layer was dependent on ligand type and density, and IgG. Moreover, Z-Cys and Cys-Z induced IgG binding in flipped orientations, as evidenced by the antigen-antibody reaction. Finally, rectangular DNA origami tiles were introduced to analyze the molecular orientation of adsorbed IgG. Single-molecule imaging showed that mIgG2a was associated with flexible Z-Cys on the tiles predominantly in side-on and end-on orientations. The research has provided molecular insight into the binding mechanism of IgG molecules at liquid-solid interfaces and would help design new protein A-based ligands and high-capacity adsorbents.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on physical therapy services for people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS) is unknown. Therefore, the Special Interest Group for Mobility (SIG Mobility) of the European Network for Best Practice and Research in Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation (RIMS) has undertaken the initiative to examine the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on physical therapy services and physical activity participation in pwMS across Europe, Israel and Australia.
