The aim of this work is to report about the new developed methods of seaweeds extractions and the potential application of the components extracted. The present paper provides a semianalytic solution for finite plane strain bending under tension of an incompressible elastic/plastic sheet using a material model that combines isotropic and kinematic hardening. A numerical treatment is only necessary to solve transcendental equations and evaluate ordinary integrals. An arbitrary function of the equivalent plastic strain controls isotropic hardening, and Prager's law describes kinematic hardening. In general, the sheet consists of one elastic and two plastic regions. The solution is valid if the size of each plastic region increases. Parameters involved in the constitutive equations determine which of the plastic regions reaches its maximum size. The thickness of the elastic region is quite narrow when the present solution breaks down. Elastic unloading is also considered. A numerical example illustrates the general solution assuming that the tensile force is given, including pure bending as a particular case. This numerical solution demonstrates a significant effect of the parameter involved in Prager's law on the bending moment and the distribution of stresses at loading, but a small effect on the distribution of residual stresses after unloading. This parameter also affects the range of validity of the solution that predicts purely elastic unloading.Anti-PD-1 antibodies prolong survival of performance status (PS) 0-1 advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (aNSCLC) patients. Their efficacy in PS 3-4 patients is unknown. Conse- cutive PS 3-4 aNSCLC patients receiving compassionate nivolumab were accrued by 12 French thoracic oncology departments, over 24 months. Overall survival (OS) was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic variables were assessed using Cox proportional hazards models. find more Overall, 35 PS 3-4 aNSCLC patients (median age 65 years) received a median of 4 nivolumab infusions (interquartile range [IQR], 1-7) as first- (n = 6) or second-line (n = 29) therapy. At a median of 52-month follow-up (95%CI, 41-63), 32 (91%) patients had died. Median progression-free survival was 2.1 months (95%CI, 1.1-3.2). Median OS was 4.4 months (95%CI, 0.5-8.2). Overall, 20% of patients were alive at 1 year, and 14% at 2 years. Treatment-related adverse events occurred in 8/35 patients (23%), mostly of low-grade. After adjustment, brain metastases (HR = 5.2; 95%CI, 9-14.3, p = 0.001) and less then 20 pack-years (HR = 4.8; 95%CI, 1.7-13.8, p = 0.003) predicted worse survival. PS improvement from 3-4 to 0-1 (n = 9) led to a median 43-month (95%CI, 0-102) OS. Certain patients with very poor general condition could derive long-term benefit from nivolumab salvage therapy. In this research, phase transformation and the role of NaOH on the structure of coal fly ash (CFA) during an alkali-calcination process were identified by a combination of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and deconvolution analysis. The variation in the different functional groups and structural parameters of the raw and post-alkali calcinated CFA were analysed by deconvolution of the FTIR results, conducted with a Gaussian approach. The results, firstly, provide a deep insight into the functional groups in CFA. In CFA systems, the vibration signals of Q0, Q1, Q2 and Q3 were detected and the dominant structural units associated with Si tetrahedron groups were isolated to Q3 and Q2. Deconvolution analysis of the band from 400 to 1400 cm-1 showed that the added NaOH resulted in an increase in Q1 at the cost of Q3 and Q2 and the degree of reaction of the CFA was, therefore, decreased. Concurrently, it was established that the changes in the Gaussian peak component were related to the calcination temperature and time that allowed us to tailor the model of the structural decomposition of CFA.Potatoes of six cultivars (Solanum tuberosum L.) with red, purple, and yellow flesh were stored at 2 and 5 °C for 3 and 6 months, and the influence of these factors on the content of free amino acids was determined. The potato cultivar and storage time had the greatest impact on the free amino acid content. The tubers of red-fleshed (Rote Emma) and purple-fleshed (Blue Congo) potatoes contained over 28 mg/g DM of free amino acids, and the Blaue Annelise cultivar with purple flesh had over 18 mg/g DM. After 6 months, the highest increase in their content (by 36%) was recorded in tubers of the Fresco cultivar (yellow-fleshed). In the analysed potatoes, the content of alanine, proline, serine, γ-aminobutyric acid, and α-aminoadipic acid increased, while that of asparagine, aspartic acid, and glutamine decreased. Asparagine decreased to the greatest extent in "Blaue Annelise" potatoes (by 24%) and that of glutamine in tubers of Rote Emma and Vineta by 18%.(1) Background This systematic review was conducted to identify cancer patient experiences, and the impact of out-of-pocket costs and financial burden in Australia. (2) Methods A systematic review, following the Preferring Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, was conducted. Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature and PubMed were searched. The primary outcome was financial burden among cancer patients and their families in Australia. The secondary outcome was out-of-pocket costs associated with cancer care and treatment within the population sample, and the impact of financial burden. (3) Results Nineteen studies were included, covering more than 70,000 Australians affected by cancer. Out-of-pocket costs varied by cancer type and ranged from an average of AUD 977 for breast cancer and lymphoedema patients to AUD 11,077 for prostate cancer patients. link2 Younger aged patients (≤65 years), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people in rural and/or remote areas, households with low income, those who were unemployed and people with private health insurance were at increased risk of experiencing out-of-pocket costs, financial burden or a combination of both. (4) Conclusions Australians diagnosed with cancer frequently experience financial burden, and the health and financial consequences are significant. Focusing efforts on the costs of care and options about where to have care within the context of informed decisions about cancer care is necessary.Staphylococcus aureus biofilm-associated infections are a major public health concern. Current therapies are hampered by reduced penetration of antibiotics through biofilm and low accumulation levels at infected sites, requiring prolonged usage. To overcome these, repurposing antibiotics in combination with nanotechnological platforms is one of the most appealing fast-track and cost-effective approaches. In the present work, we assessed the potential therapeutic benefit of three antibiotics, vancomycin, levofloxacin and rifabutin (RFB), through their incorporation in liposomes. link3 Free RFB displayed the utmost antibacterial effect with MIC and MBIC50 below 0.006 µg/mL towards a methicillin susceptible S. aureus (MSSA). RFB was selected for further in vitro studies and the influence of different lipid compositions on bacterial biofilm interactions was evaluated. Although positively charged RFB liposomes displayed the highest interaction with MSSA biofilms, RFB incorporated in negatively charged liposomes displayed lower MBIC50 values in comparison to the antibiotic in the free form. Preliminary safety assessment on all RFB formulations towards osteoblast and fibroblast cell lines demonstrated that a reduction on cell viability was only observed for the positively charged liposomes. Overall, negatively charged RFB liposomes are a promising approach against biofilm S. aureus infections and further in vivo studies should be performed.Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes and expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the epidermis. New biological drugs were developed for the systemic treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis. However, products for the topical treatment of mild psoriasis are still required. Here, we examined the effect of natural compounds on psoriasis-like keratinocytes in vitro and ex vivo. Psoriasis-like keratinocytes were generated by treating human primary keratinocytes with the psoriasis-associated cytokines IL-17A, TNF-α and IL-22. Initially, 10 botanical extracts from Ayurvedic Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Northern American traditional medicine and Occidental Monastic Medicine were investigated using BrdU assays and IL-6 and IL-8 ELISAs. Curcuma amada, Humulus lupulus and Hypericum perforatum turned out to be the most effective plant extracts. In vitro, the plant extracts inhibited the expression of anti-microbial peptides (β-defensin 2), the hyperproliferation marker keratin 17, the glucose transporter 1 and downregulated the nuclear translocation of NF-κB and pSTAT3. In an ex vivo psoriasis model, Humulus lupulus displayed the most prominent anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory effect. In conclusion, among the plant extracts investigated, Humulus lupulus showed the most promising anti-psoriatic effect. It is an interesting candidate for topical psoriasis treatment that should be further studied in clinical trials.Deregulations of the expression of the S100A8 and S100A9 genes and/or proteins, as well as changes in their plasma levels or their levels of secretion in the bone marrow microenvironment, are frequently observed in acute myeloblastic leukemias (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL). These deregulations impact the prognosis of patients through various mechanisms of cellular or extracellular regulation of the viability of leukemic cells. In particular, S100A8 and S100A9 in monomeric, homodimeric, or heterodimeric forms are able to modulate the survival and the sensitivity to chemotherapy of leukemic clones through their action on the regulation of intracellular calcium, on oxidative stress, on the activation of apoptosis, and thanks to their implications, on cell death regulation by autophagy and pyroptosis. Moreover, biologic effects of S100A8/9 via both TLR4 and RAGE on hematopoietic stem cells contribute to the selection and expansion of leukemic clones by excretion of proinflammatory cytokines and/or immune regulation. Hence, the therapeutic targeting of S100A8 and S100A9 appears to be a promising way to improve treatment efficiency in acute leukemias. This study aimed to assess the ability of dental students and recent graduates to detect and recognize mucosal changes that are suggestive of oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders. In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire was administered to dental students and recent graduates of Ajman University (n = 132). Completed questionnaires were received from 84 (63.6%) females and 48 (36.4%) males which included fifth-year students (n = 80), interns (n = 39), and dental practitioners (n = 13). This questionnaire was designed to assess the respondent's ability to detect and recognize different types of oral lesions, as well as their knowledge of oral cancer appearance and malignancy potential. The overall accuracy of diagnosis was 46%. The participants correctly identified normal variations, benign tumors, malignant tumors, and premalignant lesions at rates of 60.3%, 31.0%, 55.7%, and 33.4%, respectively. There was no significant difference between the two genders in their ability to recognize and detect correct answers (females, 48.
