Zinc-air batteries (ZABs) have drawn widespread attention for their high energy densities, abundant raw materials, and low cost. However, the issues of metal dendrite formation and air electrode failure have been impeding the development and application of ZABs. Herein, we designed a novel dendrite-resistant ZAB system by adopting multiphase electrolytes to conduct the zinc deposition and the oxygen evolution reaction. The oxygen reduction reaction electrode is kept out of the zinc deposition region to extend the lifespan. The ZABs show an energy density of 1,050.9 Wh kg-1 based on the mass of zinc consumption, with an average Coulombic efficiency of ∼97.4% in 2,000 h discharge and charge cycling. More impressively, even if a short circuit occurs while charging, the battery can maintain the cycle performance without irreversible failure, which is conducive to the reliability of battery modules and its application in other energy storage/conversion devices.Eating out of phase with daily circadian rhythms induces metabolic desynchrony in peripheral metabolic organs and may increase chronic disease risk. Time-restricted eating (TRE) is a dietary approach that consolidates all calorie intake to 6- to 10-h periods during the active phase of the day, without necessarily altering diet quality and quantity. TRE reduces body weight, improves glucose tolerance, protects from hepatosteatosis, increases metabolic flexibility, reduces atherogenic lipids and blood pressure, and improves gut function and cardiometabolic health in preclinical studies. This review discusses the importance of meal timing on the circadian system, the metabolic health benefits of TRE in preclinical models and humans, the possible mechanisms of action, the challenges we face in implementing TRE in humans, and the possible consequences of delaying initiation of TRE.Mislocalization, cleavage, and aggregation of the human protein TDP-43 is found in many neurodegenerative diseases. As is the case with many other proteins that are completely or partially structurally disordered, production of full-length recombinant TDP-43 in the quantities necessary for structural characterization has proved difficult. We show that the full-length TDP-43 protein and two truncated N-terminal constructs 1-270 and 1-263 can be heterologously expressed in E. coli. Full-length TDP-43 could be prevented from aggregation during purification using a detergent. Crystals grown from an N-terminal construct (1-270) revealed only the N-terminal domain (residues 1-80) with molecules arranged as parallel spirals with neighboring molecules arranged in head-to-tail fashion. To obtain detergent-free, full-length TDP-43 we mutated all six tryptophan residues to alanine. This provided sufficient soluble protein to collect small-angle X-ray scattering data. Refining relative positions of individual domains and intrinsically disordered regions against this data yielded a model of full-length TDP-43.Inhibition of Notch signaling has been shown to induce white to beige transformation of adipocytes and reduce the risk of obesity in mice. However, it remains unknown whether the metabolic benefits of Notch inhibition are dependent on uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)-mediated thermogenesis and evolutionarily relevant in other mammalian species. Here we report the effect of Notch inhibition in adipocytes of pigs, which lost the UCP1 gene during evolution. Notch inhibition using a γ-secretase inhibitor dibenzazepine (DBZ) promoted beige adipogenesis and mitochondrial biogenic gene expression in porcine adipocytes. Moreover, encapsulation of DBZ into poly(lactide-co-glycolide) nanoparticles enabled rapid cellular internalization and enhanced bioactivity to achieve sustained Notch inhibition, thereby inducing beige-specific gene expression and reducing subcutaneous adipose tissue expansion in pigs. These results demonstrate for the first time a role of Notch signaling in regulating adipose plasticity in large animals, highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting Notch signaling in obesity treatment.The prevalence of IgE-mediated food allergy is increasing at a rapid pace in many countries. The association of high food allergy rates with Westernized lifestyles suggests the role of gene-environment interactions, potentially underpinned by epigenetic variation, in mediating this process. Recent studies have implicated innate immune system dysfunction in the development and persistence of food allergy. These responses are characterized by increased circulating frequency of innate immune cells and heightened inflammatory responses to bacterial stimulation in food allergic patients. These signatures mirror those described in trained immunity, whereby innate immune cells retain a "memory" of earlier microbial encounters, thus influencing subsequent immune responses. Here, we propose that a robust multi-omics approach that integrates immunological, transcriptomic, and epigenomic datasets, combined with well-phenotyped and longitudinal food allergy cohorts, can inform the potential role of trained immunity in food allergy.Objectives This study was designed to assess the content and construct validity and reliability of the Quality of Nursing Doctoral Education (QNDE) instrument for nursing doctoral programmes with a research focus. Design A cross-sectional, survey study. Settings Using Qualtrics survey, the research team sent emails to potential participants providing a link to the study and the QNDE instrument. Participants A total of 234 faculty and doctoral students participated 17 faculty from 14 countries in the first stage; 111 faculty and 106 doctoral students from 20 countries in the second stage. Methods The content validity, internal consistency reliability, and construct validity of the four domains (program, faculty, resources, and evaluation) of the QNDE were examined in two stages. Data were collected from purposive samples of faculty and students between June 2018 and March 2019. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted in ordinal scale using robust weighted least square mean and variance (WLSMV) adjusted estimator in MPlus 8. Results Content validity of the items in the four domains was accepted when the item showed content validity (I-CVI > 0.78). Internal consistency reliability in four domains was computed using Cronbach's alpha, α = 0.88 to 0.97. Construct validity of the QNDE was established by confirmatory factor analysis based on model fit statistics. this website Factor loading coefficients for all items in each domain were statistically significant (>0.5; p less then .001). During the third week of shelter-in-place guidelines, 1,013 U.S. adults completed the UCLA Loneliness Scale-3 and Public Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Loneliness was elevated, with 43% of respondents scoring above published cutoffs, and was strongly associated with greater depression and suicidal ideation. Loneliness is a critical public health concern that must be considered during the social isolation efforts to combat the pandemic.Background Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is an increasingly popular treatment for major depression and anxiety disorder, but has shown inconsistent efficacy for bipolar disorder (BD). Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to assess the general efficacy of MBCT for BD. Methods Ten studies were identified that fulfilled the current inclusion criteria, including three controlled and seven uncontrolled studies. The effects of MBCT on depression, anxiety, mania, stress, mindfulness ability, and emotional regulation were assessed by comparing psychometric scale scores within groups (pre- vs. post-intervention) across trials as well as between groups (control vs. MBCT) across controlled trials. Results Within-group comparison revealed a reduction in symptoms of depression (g = 0.37, 95%CI = 0.09-0.64, P = 0.009) and anxiety (g = 0.45, 95%CI =0.16-0.75, P = 0.002) following treatment compared to baseline. Stress symptoms were also significantly reduced (g = 0.39, 95%CI = 0.09-0.69, P = 0.01), mindfulnelimited and inconsistent, necessitating additional larger-scale studies and the development of post-intervention programs for sustained efficacy.Women can develop childbirth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) in at-term delivery with healthy baby outcome as well as following pre-term delivery and neonatal complications, a potential added stressor. No study compares risk factors of CB-PTSD associated with different infant outcomes. We investigated CB-PTSD risk factors by comparing women with or without neonatal complications. Analysis reveals the importance of antepartum and birth-related risk factors in CB-PTSD above and beyond child outcomes, suggesting childbirth is an independent stressor capable of evoking CB-PTSD.Although studies have identified several risk factors for the development of psychotic disorders, potential protective factors - such as resilience - have rarely been examined. Studies suggest that the negative beliefs people hold about their Auditory Hallucinations (AH) may be an indicator of a need for care. However, the reason why certain people do not develop negative beliefs is unclear but may be related to resilience. The present study aimed to examine the role of resilience in AH by comparing psychotic patients with AH, non-patients with AH, and healthy controls without AH. Another aim was to explore whether resilience is related to the beliefs people hold about their AH. Results revealed that patients with AH and non-patients with AH had similarly weak interpersonal resilience factors compared to healthy controls without AH. In contrast, patients with AH showed weak personal factors of resilience compared to both non-patients with AH and healthy controls without AH. Patients with AH had more negative and fewer positive beliefs about their AH than non-patients with AH. Finally, the personal factors of resilience were related to the beliefs about AH. These results showed that personal factors of resilience are decisive variables influencing the need for care in people experiencing AH and thus represent an important treatment target.Aggressiveness is a clinical concern in the stable phase of schizophrenia, as well as in the acute phase. The factors that affect aggressiveness during the stable phase remain unclear. This study investigated factors associated with aggressiveness in patients with stable schizophrenia. Sixty-six patients with schizophrenia who were in the stable phase without acute exacerbation were assessed for aggressiveness using the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire; impulsivity using the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Version 11, psychotic symptoms using the five-factor model of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) including positive symptoms, negative symptoms, disorganization, excitement, and emotional distress; and prefrontal hemodynamic responses using near-infrared spectroscopy. Multivariate regression analyses showed that the excitement factor of the PANSS five-factor model, which comprised four PANSS items (poor impulse control, hyperactivity, hostility, and uncooperativeness), and delayed prefrontal hemodynamic responses were associated with elevated aggressiveness.
