World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.
Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can evaluate the item level. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.
On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory suggests that the level of an item is determined by formulas that determine the worth of an item's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl as the level of the region the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded one time however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes could be used to give the item additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circles arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
item upgrading can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the range, unless they are an item that is unique, or a God Roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item, up to 140.
Moreover some items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..
The luck of an item can also affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
