Children are particularly vulnerable to many classes of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detected in indoor environments. The negative health impacts associated with chronic and acute exposures of the VOCs might lead to health issues such as genetic damage, cancer, and disorder of nervous systems. In this study, 40 VOCs including aldehydes and ketones, aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, cyclic terpenes, alcohols, and glycol ethers were identified and qualified in different locations at the University of Missouri (MU) Child Development Laboratory (CDL) in Columbia, Missouri. Our results suggested that the concentrations of the VOCs varied significantly among classrooms, hallways, and playground. The VOCs emitted from personal care and cleaning products had the highest indoor levels (2-ethylhexanol-1, 3-carene, homomenthyl salicylate with mean concentration of 5.15 µg/m3 , 1.57 µg/m3 , and 1.47 µg/m3 , respectively). A cancer risk assessment was conducted, and none of the 95th percentile dose estimates exceeded the age-specific no significant risk levels (NSRL) in all classrooms. Dimensionless toxicity index scores were calculated for all VOCs using a novel web-based framework called Toxicological Prioritization Index (ToxPi), which integrates multiple sources of toxicity data. According to the method, homomenthyl salicylate, benzothiazole, 2-ethylhexyl salicylate, hexadecane, and tridecane exhibited diverse toxicity profiles and ranked as the five most toxic indoor VOCs. The findings of this study provide critical information for policy makers and early education professionals to mitigate the potentially negative health impacts of indoor VOCs in the childcare facilities.Veterinary antibiotics (VAs) have been widely used in livestock for disease prevention, treatment, and growth promotion. This study compared top 20 VAs in Chinese and US swine and cattle wastewater with published literatures. The sulfonamides (SAs) were found to be predominant, accounting for 62% of the top 20 VAs in Chinese swine wastewater, while tetracyclines (TCs) contributed to about 68.7% of the 18 VAs in US swine wastewater. The average concentration of the 20 major VAs in Chinese swine wastewater was estimated to be 1145 μg/L against 253.6 μg/L in the United States. On the other hand, the five major VAs in Chinese cattle wastewater were identified to be oxytetracycline, nafcillin, apramycin, lincomycin, and amikacin, while monensin was found to be dominant in US cattle wastewater. The average concentration of the top 20 VAs in Chinese and US cattle wastewaters were found to be 54.6 and 46.2 μg/L, respectively. These analyses suggested that VAs were probably over-used in Chinese swine industry, eventually causing the development and spreading of antibiotic resistant-bacteria and genes, which should be paid with attention. PRACTITIONER POINTS Major veterinary antibiotics (VAs) in swine and cattle wastewater were identified. bpV cell line Top 20 VAs in swine and cattle wastewater of China and the United States were compared. VAs concentration in Chinese swine wastewater was 4.52 times that in the United States. VAs concentration in Chinese cattle wastewater was 1.18 times that of the United States.
Thoracic duct injury is a rare complication of head and neck surgery. Thoracic duct embolization (TDE) has been proposed to manage postoperative chyle leaks.

Twelve patients who underwent lymphangiography for a chyle leak after head and neck surgery (MF = 57, mean 55 years) were retrospectively reviewed. Lymphangiographic findings, technical success, complications, and clinical outcomes were analyzed.

Chyle leak was identified and TDE attempted in 11 of 12 patients. Three patients required repeat TDE. Technical success of TDE was 86% (12/14). Clinical success for patients with technically successful TDE was 90% (9/10). Median time until drain removal was 2.1 days in nine patients with clinical success. Two major complications were encountered, chylothorax after initial TDE, requiring additional TDE and in one case surgical TD ligation.

TDE is a safe treatment for chyle leaks after head and neck surgery with high technical and clinical success rates.

The objective of this study was to detect the expression levels of ME1 and CA1 and the polymorphisms of ME1 and CA1 associated with the feed conversion ratio (FCR) and residual feed intake (RFI) of Hu sheep by using qRT-PCR, pooled DNA sequencing and KASPar assay. The qRT-PCR results indicated that the expression levels of ME1 and CA1 were significantly higher in the liver tissues of low-RFI sheep than in those of the high-RFI sheep (p .05). Significant differences were observed between the combined genotypes and FCR and RFI at different measurement periods (p less then .05). Thus, we propose the use of these two polymorphisms as new candidate molecular markers for improving feed efficiency in sheep populations. This study provides the results from the implementation of a highly structured therapist-guided iCBT programme for people with work-related anxiety and depression, in terms of programme efficacy, participants' adherence and satisfaction. Seventy-seven national police workers were randomly allocated to one of two groups without additional videoconference sessions (web platform with guidance of therapist) and with additional videoconference sessions (same intervention as the previous group, plus two videoconference guidance sessions with a psychologist). The intervention was composed of 12 sessions and took place for 17-20 weeks. We found an adherence rate of 36.4%, with no differences between groups. All participants endorsed lower depression (BDI-II F(1) = 36.98, p  less then  .001; ATQ F(1) = 24.22, p  less then  .001), and anxiety (STAI-State F(1) = 76.62, p  less then  .001) after the programme. As a variable related to anxiety and depression in workplace, participants also showed higher assertiveness levels (RAS F(1) = 8.
