Item upgrade, commonly known as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling an item increases with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. If you do have a rune or glyph that has not yet been applied to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece of equipment by utilizing the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is installed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be salvaged by removing the glyph fragments.
