Customer happiness inside equine veterinarian practice: An organized evaluation and qualitative functionality.
This paper describes the life and work of Louis Ombrédanne, one of the founding fathers of the SICOT, a notorious French orthopaedic and paediatric surgeon with a strong interest in plastic surgery and reconstruction of post-traumatic defects and also with limb lengthening and treatment of sequalae. Born in Paris in 1871 as a son of a general practitioner doctor, Ombrédanne was a brilliant student enjoying anatomy and surgery since the early years. He was appointed as a Surgeon in 1902 in Paris and became Professor of Surgery in 1907. During the First World War, he worked in Verdun, one of the most exposed hospitals near the battlefield where over 700.000 people died and many cases were affected by head and neck burns and destructions, requiring surgical reconstruction. After the war, Ombrédanne developed Pediatric Surgery and it seems that his powerful drive and charisma explain why these specialties are studied together with orthopaedics in Europe and later in the World. Many innovations like the anaesthetic inhaler with face mask were authored by Ombrédanne and also techniques of limb lengthening, thoracic plasty. He described malignant hyperthermia in children and worked in the Sick Children Hospital in Paris, today Hôpital Necker. In 1929, Ombrédanne participated with a group of enthusiastic surgeons and teachers from many countries to the creation of SICOT during a historical meeting held in Hotel Crillon in Paris. This paper introduces Ombrédanne's work to the current readers and is a tribute to the work of our ancestors who made possible the development of our specialty.In vitro generation of hematopoietic cells and especially hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) from human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) are subject to intensive research in recent decades, as these cells hold great potential for regenerative medicine and autologous cell replacement therapies. Despite many attempts, in vitro, de novo generation of bona fide HSCs remains challenging, and we are still far away from their clinical use, due to insufficient functionality and quantity of the produced HSCs. TPNQ The challenges of generating PSC-derived HSCs are already apparent in early stages of hemato-endothelial specification with the limitation of recapitulating complex, dynamic processes of embryonic hematopoietic ontogeny in vitro. Further, these current shortcomings imply the incompleteness of our understanding of human ontogenetic processes from embryonic mesoderm over an intermediate, specialized hemogenic endothelium (HE) to their immediate progeny, the HSCs. In this review, we examine the recent investigations of hemato-endothelial ontogeny and recently reported progress for the conversion of PSCs and other promising somatic cell types towards HSCs with the focus on the crucial and inevitable role of the HE to achieve the long-standing goal-to generate therapeutically applicable PSC-derived HSCs in vitro.The McMurdo Dry Valleys are the largest single ice-free area in Antarctica, and of considerable scientific and conservation value as an extreme polar desert. This is recognised through the McMurdo Dry Valleys Antarctic Specially Managed Area (ASMA), where management's goals focus on protection of its unique features, while facilitating science access. Using a mix of remote sensing and existing cartography, we have identified over 6000 lakes and ponds in the ASMA. This study develops a classification of those aquatic ecosystems to provide a framework for management. It uses a limited top-down, hierarchical classification to define 13 class separations based on physical attributes that could largely be ascribed from existing databases or remotely sensed information. The first hierarchical level was based on landscape position, separating coastal kettle holes (reflecting recent glacial history), from other "topographic" water bodies. The second level was based on endorheic vs exorheic drainage, the third on mid-summer ice condition (no-ice cap; ice capped; frozen to base) and the fourth on source of inflow (glacial or non-glacial). Kettles were sub-classed by mid-summer ice only. Classes were tested against a set of field observations and an expert workshop validation process considered management implications for the ASMA. This study shows how the classification assists our understanding of Dry Valley landscapes and addresses management issues faced by researchers, environmental managers and policy makers. The approach to classification, rather than the detailed classes that may be specific to the Dry Valleys, has potential for wider use in other polar landscapes.
The reported mortality for sepsis and septic shock varies between 15% and 59% in international comparison. For Germany, the number of studies is limited. Previous estimations of mortality in Germany are outdated or based on claims data analyses. Various authors discuss whether lacking quality initiatives and treatment standards in Germany could cause higher mortality for sepsis. This contrasts with the internationally well-recognized performance of the German intensive care infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objectives of this systematic review and meta-analysis were to estimate 30-day and 90-day mortality of patients with sepsis and patients with septic shock in Germany and to compare the mortality with that of other industrialized regions (Europe, North America).

Asystematic literature search included interventional and observational studies published between 2009 and 2020 in PubMed and the Cochrane Library that analyzed adult patients with sepsis, severe sepsis and septic shock in Europany is higher in international comparison. A higher mortality would not be obvious either, since intensive care, for example also during the COVID-19 pandemic, is regarded as exemplary in Germany and the structural quality, such as the number of intensive care beds per 100,000 inhabitants, is high in international comparison. Nevertheless, deficits could also exist outside intensive care medicine. A comparison of international individual studies should take greater account of the structure of healthcare systems, the severity of disease and the limitations resulting from the data sources used.
