For the next several days the leader male traveled in close-proximity to the new mother and four days after the birth event, we observed him to share food with her. Given that diurnal births are extremely rare in this primate species; it remains unclear the degree to which the events we observed commonly occur during nighttime births. We argue that adult male and female black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys are highly attracted to young infants, and birth attendance and birth assistance in this, and certain other primate species, may play a critical role in maternal and infant survivorship.Canine distemper virus (CDV), a non-segmented single negative-stranded RNA (ssRNA), is the etiological agent of canine distemper. Canine distemper is a highly contagious and lethal viral disease in domestic dogs and wild carnivores. Study of the evolution of CDV presents an essential key to improve the vaccine efficacy. In this study, a total of 328 full-length CDV hemagglutinin (H) gene sequences were subjected to phylogenetic, amino acid mutations, and codon usage analysis. In accordance with previous study, CDV genotypes consisted of fifteen lineages. The unique amino acid substitution sites in each CDV lineages have been identified for the first time, including America-1 (Q330H), America-2 (I585S), Asia-1 (A359V), Asia-2 (H61R), Asia-3 (P108Q), Asia-4 (K213T), India-1/Asia-5(S497P), Arctic (S20L), Africa-1(N489S), Colombian (V41I), EWL (I44V), Europe (D560E), Europe-1/South America-1(K161Q), South America-2 (R580Q), and East African (S214A). Codon usage analysis indicated that H gene exhibited low codon usage bias and further neutrality plot analysis demonstrated that natural selection played a dominated role in driving CPV evolution. The effective number of codons (ENC) plots show that all the different sequences are below the standard curve, indicating that mutational pressure is not the only factor affecting CUB but other forces, including natural selection. The neutrality analysis showed that the slope of the regression line was 0.1501, indicating natural selection dominates directional mutation pressure in driving the codon usage pattern. In addition, nucleotide composition, relative synonymous codon usage value, dinucleotide content, and geographical distribution have been proven to influence the codon usage bias of the CDV H gene. The novel findings enhanced the understanding of CDV evolution.Root system architecture (RSA), the spatio-temporal configuration of roots, plays vital roles in maize (Zea mays L.) development and productivity. We sequenced the maize root transcriptome of four key growth and development stages the 6th leaf stage, the 12th leaf stage, the tasseling stage and the milk-ripe stage. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected. 81 DEGs involved in plant hormone signal transduction pathway and 26 transcription factor (TF) genes were screened. These DEGs and TFs were predicted to be potential candidate genes during maize root growth and development. Several of these genes are homologous to well-known genes regulating root architecture or development in Arabidopsis or rice, such as, Zm00001d005892 (AtERF109), Zm00001d027925 (AtERF73/HRE1), Zm00001d047017 (AtMYC2, OsMYC2), Zm00001d039245 (AtWRKY6). Identification of these key genes will provide a further understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for maize root growth and development, it will be beneficial to increase maize production and improve stress resistance by altering RSA traits in modern breeding.Increasing prevalence of herbal and dietary supplement-induced hepatotoxicity has been reported worldwide. Usnic acid (UA) is a well-known hepatotoxin derived from lichens. Since 2000, more than 20 incident reports have been received by the US Food and Drug Administration after intake of UA containing dietary supplement resulting in severe complications. Scientists and clinicians have been studying the cause, prevention and treatment of UA-induced hepatotoxicity. It is now known that UA decouples oxidative phosphorylation, induces adenosine triphosphate (ATP) depletion, decreases glutathione (GSH), and induces oxidative stress markedly leading to lipid peroxidation and organelle stress. In addition, experimental rat liver tissues have shown massive vacuolization associated with cellular swellings. Additionally, various signaling pathways, such as c-JNK N-terminal kinase (JNK), store-operated calcium entry, nuclear erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), and protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (Akt/mTOR) pathways are stimulated by UA causing beneficial or harmful effects. Nevertheless, there are controversial issues, such as UA-induced inflammatory or anti-inflammatory responses, cytochrome P450 detoxifying UA into non-toxic or transforming UA into reactive metabolites, and unknown mechanism of the formation of vacuolization and membrane pore. This article focused on the previous and latest comprehensive putative mechanistic findings of UA-induced hepatotoxicity and cell death. New insights on controversial issues and future perspectives are also discussed and summarized.Maternal milk is essential for optimum growth and development of an infant. The aim was to examine the presence of pharmaceutical residuals in breastmilk. This cohort study enrolled 90 healthy mother-infant pairs at 5-14 days after delivery and a control examination was performed 4-8 weeks later. Milk samples were taken at both visits. RANDOX Infiniplex kit performed residual analysis. More than half of mothers (54.4 %) had anti-inflammatory drug residues in at least one milk sample those were 52.2 % for tolfenamic acid and 2.2 % for meloxicam and 1.1 % for metamizole. The most frequent residue group included the beta-lactam antibiotic group, which was detected in 93.3 % of mothers' milk. Selleckchem Entinostat The second one was the quinolone group (81.1 %). One-third of mothers expressed nitroxynil and one-fifth polymyxin in at least one sample. Almost all mothers had some unexpected drug residues in their milk. Additional studies from other countries can display maternal environmental exposures.
Tagetes lucida Cav. commonly known as "yauhtli" or "pericón" is used in Mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of anxiety, depressant diseases, pain, hypertension, among others.
To evaluate the antihypertensive and vasorelaxant modes of action of a crude ethanolic extract from T. lucida aerial parts and to isolate the bioactive compounds.
Ethanolic extract was tested in an in vivo assay in SHR rats by intragastric administration at 10 and 100mg/kg dosages, to measure and to compare hemodynamic parameters like diastolic and systolic blood pressure and heart rate. Also, extract (3.03-1000μg/ml), fractions (3.03-1000μg/ml) and pure isolated compounds (1.75-550μM) were evaluated on isolated aortic rings contracted with noradrenaline (0.1μM) to determine their vasorelaxant effect and extract-mode of action.
Ethanolic extract of T. lucida lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure on SHR rats without heart rate modification (P>0.05). Moreover, the extract showed concentration-dependent relaxant effect in a partially endothelium-dependent manner (P<0.
