Gas discharge visualization (GDV) works on the principle of the Kirlian effect. It's a noninvasive, quick, and safe biometric tool to investigate the psychophysiological state of an individual, with the potential to identify deviations from the healthy functioning of humans at early stages.
The study intended to systematically document the scientific evidence pertaining to the use of GDV devices in human health and disease conditions.
The research team performed a systematic search for studies on GDV on research databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and PsychINFO, using the following inclusion criteria (1) experimental studies dealing with a GDV device, (2) studies dealing with human participants related to health and disease, and (3) studies published in the English language. The study excluded (1) review articles, (2) case studies, (3) letter to editors, (4) studies with unclear methodology, and (5) studies published before the year 2000.
The study took place in the Department of Integrative Meddation of GDV imaging in clinical settings.
More studies with a robust methodology are needed to make definitive conclusions. The literature reveals that the GDV technique has the potential to provide early diagnosis and screening, especially in disorders of the endocrine and immune systems. It might also be used to assess wellness in healthy subjects and monitor the effects of interventions, such as yoga-including pranayama and meditation, acupuncture, qigong, music therapy, and massage on the human energy system. Future studies should focus on the validation of GDV imaging in clinical settings.
Osteoporosis affects approximately 10% of the population worldwide. β-sitosterol (BSS), a major phytosterol in plants, has been claimed for centuries to have numerous medical benefits, including bone strengthening. This study aimed to find the benefit of BSS in treating osteoporosis according to traditional methods and to investigate the protective effect of BSS on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in rats.
Wistar rats were randomly assigned to one of four groups the control group, the dexamethasone (DEX) group and one of two BSS-treated osteoporosis groups (100 and 200 mg/kg). Blood samples and femur bones were collected for histopathology, immunohistochemistry, biochemical and mRNA expression analysis.
The results indicated that BSS (100 and 200 mg/kg) increased bone length, bone weight and bone mineral density (BMD) and suppressed DEX-induced reduction in body weight, dose-dependently. Mechanistically, BSS (100 and 200 mg/kg) treatment alleviated the increase of bone resorption markers and the declteoprotegerin (RANKL/OPG) and RunX2 pathways. The immunohistochemical inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) results of the rats' distal femur were negative in all groups. However, except in the DEX group, the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) color reaction in osteoblasts was strongly positive in the other 3 groups. These results suggest that BSS showed promising effects in protection against glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis by protecting osteoblasts and suppressing osteoclastogenesis.
With aging, cognition declines, leading to functional limitations and a loss of independence. Yoga is a particular kind of physical activity that can have a positive influence on cognition in older adults, because it aims to improve physical skills and to enhance the ability to focus and to neutralize external mental stimulation.
The literature review intended to evaluate the effects of different types of yoga interventions and to examine which cognitive functions were affected by them for healthy people aged 60 years and older.
A search of the terms "yoga and cognition" and "yoga and cognitive function" was conducted using the PubMed and EBSCO databases. For inclusion, an article must have (1) included healthy participants aged 60 and above, (2) been an intervention lasting between one week and six months, and (3) been an RCT. Three reviewers independently assessed each study.
The Academic College at Wingate, Israel.
Out of 503 articles, only five met the inclusion criteria, and had in total 461 pacline.
The studies differed in the type of yoga, length of the intervention, and type of cognitive-function assessments, making results inconclusive. Nevertheless, based on the examined randomized controlled trials (RCTs), overall yoga may offer benefits to cognitive function. However, a greater number of RCTs with a larger number of participants and rigorous research methods are required to support this recommendation.

To improve PA planning, we developed a framework for assessing PA vulnerability to climate change based on consideration of potential climate change impacts on species and their habitats and resource use. Furthermore, the capacity of PAs to adapt to these climate threats was determined through assessment of PA management effectiveness, adjacent land use, and financial resilience. Users reach a PA-specific vulnerability score and rank based on scoring of these categories. We applied the framework to South Africa's 19 national parks. Because the 19 parks are managed as a national network, we explored how resources might be best allocated to address climate change. Each park's importance to the network's biodiversity conservation and revenue generation was estimated and used to weight overall vulnerability scores and ranks. Park vulnerability profiles showed distinct combinations of potential impacts of climate change and adaptive capacities; the former had a greater influence on vulnerability. Mapungubwe National Park emerged as the most vulnerable to climate change, despite its relatively high adaptive capacity, largely owing to large projected changes in species and resource use. Table Mountain National Park scored the lowest in overall vulnerability. Climate change vulnerability rankings differed markedly once importance weightings were applied; Kruger National Park was the most vulnerable under both importance scenarios. Climate change vulnerability assessment is fundamental to effective adaptation planning. Our PA assessment tool is the only tool that quantifies PA vulnerability to climate change in a comparative index. It may be used in data-rich and data-poor contexts to prioritize resource allocation across PA networks and can be applied from local to global scales.Intrinsic improvement of iron (Fe) concentration in rice grains, called rice Fe biofortification, is a promising countermeasure against widespread human Fe deficiency. In this study, two novel rice Fe biofortification approaches are reported. The first approach (Y approach) involved the expression of maize YELLOW STRIPE 1 controlled by the HEAVY METAL ATPASE 2 promoter. The Y approach increased the polished grain Fe concentrations up to 4.8-fold compared with the non-transgenic (NT) line. The second approach (T approach) involved the expression of rice TRANSPORTER OF MUGINEIC ACID 1 controlled by the FERRIC REDUCTASE DEFECTIVE LIKE 1 promoter. The T approach increased the polished grain Fe concentrations by up to 3.2-fold. No synergistic increases in the polished grain Fe concentrations were observed when Y and T approaches were combined (YT approach). However, the polished grain Fe concentrations further increased by 5.1- to 9.3-fold compared with the NT line, when YT approach was combined with the endosperm-specific expression of FERRITIN (YTF approach), or when YTF approach was combined with the constitutive expression of NICOTIANAMINE SYNTHASE (YTFN approach). Total grain weight per plant in most Y, T, YT, and YTFN lines was comparable to that in the NT line, while it was significantly decreased in most YTF lines. The novel approaches reported in this study expand the portfolio of genetic engineering strategies that can be used for Fe biofortification in rice.
Children's hospices provide a range of family-centred care services, including bereavement support. Not all hospices provide specific services for grandparents.
To explore how a hospice-based bereavement support group supported grandparents in their grief following the death of a grandchild.
Grandparents attending a group were invited to complete an anonymous questionnaire. Questionnaires from eight groups, run between 2015 and 2019 were collated and interpreted to identify themes.
A total of 121 grandparents attended the groups; 113 returned the questionnaires (93% response). A total of three superordinate themes were identified environment and space, being with people who understand, and the opportunity to hear the stories of others. IACS-10759 purchase Grandparents valued hearing the stories of others, providing an opportunity to reflect on the experience of others.
Grandparents felt supported and validated by the group. Facilitated sessions increased coping and resilience of participants, enabling grandparents to support their partner, adult children and surviving grandchildren more effectively.

The grieving process following perinatal loss caused by life-limiting conditions presents some particularities associated with the family's culture and the symbolic relationship with the deceased.
To reflect on the symbolic meaning attributed to mementos, particularly pictures taken immediately after birth.
Case study-a qualitative analysis of the data collected through semidirected interviews.
Of the three women that took part in the study, one woman chose not to take a picture but opted to take home the hat with her son's name on it that was provided as a regular procedure for every birth at the maternity centre. During the interview, she questioned her decision. The two other women took pictures and still look at them affectionate. One of the women keeps the picture of her child in a shrine at home, thus attributing a symbolic religious meaning to the whole experience that alleviates her pain.

The number of older adult patients in Japan is increasing and symptom management is needed not only for cancer patients, but also non-cancer patients.
This study investigated nurses' symptom management and their views on death and caring for heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
A cross-sectional survey using a questionnaire was conducted. Survey items were implementation of assessment and non-pharmacological interventions for 14 symptoms at the end-of-life stage, participation in palliative care training courses and attitude toward death and caring, as assessed by the Frommelt attitude toward care of the dying (FATCOD) Scale.
A total of 266 (78.5%) nurses responded. More than 90% implemented symptom assessment of dyspnea and cough for both HF and COPD. The mean FATCOD score was 114.7, participation in on-the-job palliative care training courses (p<0.01), and difficulty with near-death issues (p<0.01) were significantly associated with the FATCOD.
These results suggest that nurses assessed the major symptoms of HF and COPD.
