The designed hybrid method is used to predict the DPD in Iran by using data from 2013 to 2017. The high accurate results confirm that the proposed hybrid methods have the ability to improve the prediction of the demand for various products. Background and purpose - The increasing prevalence of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) within the growing elderly population is translating into a larger number of patients with neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis (MG) receiving arthroplasty. We compared systemic and joint complications following a THA or TKA between patients with MG and patients without MG.Patients and methods - Patient records were queried from PearlDiver (Pearl Diver Inc, Fort Wayne, IN, USA), an administrative claims database, using ICD-9/ICD-10 and Current Procedural Terminology codes. In-hospital and 90-day post-discharge rates of systemic and joint complications were compared between the 2 cohorts. Results - 372 patients with MG and 249,428 patients without MG who received a THA or TKA were included in the study. At 90 days post-discharge, MG patients exhibited exhibited between 1.6 and 15% higher rates of systemic complications, including cerebrovascular event, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis, myocardial infarction, acute renal failure, anemia, and deep vein thrombosis (all p less then 0.001). The same results were also found during the in-hospital time period. 90-day incidence of aseptic loosening was the only joint complication with significantly increased odds risk for the MG cohort (OR 5; 95% CI 2-12).Interpretation - Patients with MG exhibited significantly higher risk for multiple systemic complications during the index hospital stay and in the acute post-discharge setting.Burkholderia territorii, a Gram-negative bacterium, encodes for the ι-class carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) BteCAι, which was recently characterised. It acts as a good catalyst for the hydration of CO2 to bicarbonate and protons, with a kcat value of 3.0 × 105 s-1 and kcat/KM value of 3.9 × 107 M-1 s-1. No inhibition data on this new class of enzymes are available to date. We report here an anion and small molecules inhibition study of BteCAι, which we prove to be a zinc(II)- and not manganese(II)-containing enzyme, as reported for diatom ι-CAs. The best inhibitors were sulphamic acid, stannate, phenylarsonic acid, phenylboronic acid and sulfamide (KI values of 6.2-94 µM), whereas diethyldithiocarbamate, tellurate, selenate, bicarbonate and cyanate were submillimolar inhibitors (KI values of 0.71-0.94 mM). The halides (except iodide), thiocyanate, nitrite, nitrate, carbonate, bisulphite, sulphate, hydrogensulfide, peroxydisulfate, selenocyanate, fluorosulfonate and trithiocarbonate showed KI values in the range of 3.1-9.3 mM.Sibling survival histories are a major source of adult mortality estimates in countries with incomplete death registration. We evaluate age and date reporting errors in sibling histories collected during a validation study in the Niakhar Health and Demographic Surveillance System (Senegal). Participants were randomly assigned to either the Demographic and Health Survey questionnaire or a questionnaire incorporating an event history calendar, recall cues, and increased probing strategies. We linked 60-62 per cent of survey reports of siblings to the reference database using manual and probabilistic approaches. Both questionnaires showed high sensitivity (>96 per cent) and specificity (>97 per cent) in recording siblings' vital status. Respondents underestimated the age of living siblings, and age at and time since death of deceased siblings. These reporting errors introduced downward biases in mortality estimates. The revised questionnaire improved reporting of age of living siblings but not of age at or timing of deaths.Purpose To evaluate the outcome of orbital decompression, strabismus and/or eyelid surgery in patients with moderate to severe thyroid-associated orbitopathy, when combined approach is preferred. Methods Retrospective, comparative, non-randomized review of 45 patients operated on from 2015 to 2018. Simultaneous decompression, eyelid and/or strabismus surgery was performed in 34 eyes of 20 subjects (group 1). Patients with multi-step procedures were used as control groups group 2 included patients with staged decompression and eyelid retraction surgery (15 cases, 19 eyes); group 3 included patients with staged decompression and vertical strabismus surgery (10 cases, 13 eyes). Mean follow-up was 2.9 ± 1.8 years. Mann Whitney two-tailed test was used for paired data, and Fisher's exact test for categorical data; p .05). One patient of group 1 had recurrent dysthyroid optic neuropathy that recovered with steroid treatment. No other complications occurred in the one-step surgery group. Conclusions Simultaneous orbital decompression, strabismus and/or eyelid surgery resolved dysthyroid optic neuropathy, decreased proptosis, improved diplopia and eyelid position with a range comparable to that of a multi-step technique. If confirmed in prospective controlled studies, a one-stage approach might be advised to reduce the costs and time needed for rehabilitation in selected patients.Purpose While sinusitis carries a seasonal variation, the temporal features of sinusitis-related orbital cellulitis (SRC) are unclear. Indisulam research buy This study analyzes the incidence, seasonality, management, and outcomes of SRC in northeastern New York. Methods A retrospective review of 79 patients was performed from January 2008 - December 2018. Cases of orbital cellulitis without comitant sinusitis were excluded. Demographic, radiographic, clinical features, month at presentation, interventions (surgical and nonsurgical), microbiology, and hospitalization duration were recorded. Fisher-exact test, Mann-Whitney test, and Kruskal Wallis test statistical analyses were performed in consultation with our institution's statistician via a dedicated software package (vassarstats.net).Results 79 patients were admitted for SRC. 25 patients were treated with antibiotics only, 31 underwent orbitotomy exclusively and 23 received combined orbitotomy and functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Of the 31 patients who underwent orbitotomy only, 8 (26%) returned to the operating room.
