This study confirmed that there are important alterations in running steps in function of sex and surface slope. Importantly, the response to fatigue (i.e. alterations with the covered distance) does not alter these sex differences and is therefore independent of the sloped conditions.

Football is the most popular sport in the world, increasingly played by the youngsters. However, little epidemiological data exists regarding injuries in young players. The aim of this study was to describe the most common types and sites of injury among the different classes of a single professional football club.

The present perspective study covered a three-season period, including 679 children divided in 9 age classes. All the athletes were managed by the same staff and for each injury, onset date, date of return to training, anatomic site and type of injury were recorded.

The mean age of the population was 12.7 years old (Range 7.4-16.9). A total 975 injuries were recorded without significant differences among seasons (P=0.682). The most affected classes were U17 and U16, while the lowest rate of injury was in U11. The most common injury in U9 and U10 affected foot and ankle, while in all the other classes thigh was the most frequently site involved. Focusing on the type of injury, the most common cause was traumatic (40.9%), followed by muscular diseases. The mean value of absence from soccer was 19.7 days (±1.2). The highest rate of injuries occurred in September and August. In January and February, injuries were more frequent during competitions, whereas in the other months the rate was inverted.

This study highlights that preseason and the final phase of the season are more at risk of injury and the type of injury differs between classes.

This study examined the effect of 6-month volume-extended training period on irisin and inflammatory cytokine concentrations in elite male rowers.

Nine elite male rowers (25.3±6.5 yrs; 190.6±5.1 cm; 93.4±7.5 kg; 14.6±2.6% body fat; maximal oxygen consumption [VO<inf>2</inf>max] 64.0±3.5 mL.min.
kg
) participated in this study. Body composition, VO<inf>2</inf>max and blood biochemical markers were assessed before and after training period. Venous blood samples were analyzed for irisin, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, vascular endothelial growth factor, interferon-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-1α, IL-1β, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and epidermal growth factor (EGF).

Average weekly training volume was significantly higher (P<0.05) during the 6 months of heavy training compared to relative rest (11.6±1.4 h.week
vs. Tacrolimus solubility dmso 18.4±1.0 h.week
), while training intensity remained the same. At the end of training period, body fat% was significantly decreased, and fat fthe typical preparatory period in elite male rowers.
The peak sports performance of elite athletes is the result of talent and long-term, systematic training. Only minor differences among athletes determine the results in sport today. In selected sports events, stereoscopic vision has a fundamental influence on the executed sports performance.

The quality of stereopsis was determined in 2 groups of top-level athletes at the age of 16-18 years (21 pole vaulters and high jumpers and 25 swimmers) and in a control group of 25 nonathletes in the same age category. Two measured parameters (results and time in the stereopsis test) were compared among the studied groups. To determine the quality of stereopsis, the "Fly-S Stereo Acuity Test with LEA Symbols" field stereoacuity test was used.

The average level of stereopsis in the pole vaulters and high jumpers reached the value of 9.9 (max. 10), and the average time needed for performing the stereopsis test was 11.6 seconds. The group of swimmers and control group showed worse results in both measured parameters (the average level of stereopsis 9.4, resp. 9.1, the average test time 30.0 seconds, resp. 36.1 seconds). A significant difference between the group of pole vaulters and high jumpers and swimmers was confirmed in both monitored parameters. No significant differences were found between the group of swimmers and nonathletes.

On the basis of the stereopsis test results, we can say that top-level pole vaulters and high jumpers have a high quality of stereopsis and very fast identification and decision-making abilities in spatial orientation.

The effects of a reduced or mildly elevated exercising muscle temperature on the graded exercise test (GXT) performance have yet to be studied. The present study clarified the effects of a range of exercising muscle temperatures on GXT performance in a temperate environment.

Eight male subjects (age 24.0±0.5 years old; height 175±2 cm; weight 64.8±2.0 kg; peak oxygen consumption [V̇O<inf>2peak</inf>] 51.1±2.4 mL/kg/min) performed 4 GXTs at different exercising muscle temperatures using a cycle-ergometer in a temperate environment (24.1±0.2 °C). The exercise began at 0.3 kilopond (kp) with 60 revolutions per minute (rpm) and increased 0.3 kp every minute until volitional exhaustion. Subjects passively cooled (averaged deep thigh and calf temperature [Tmm], cold 31 °C or cool 33 °C) or warmed (Tmm; warm 35 °C or hot 37 °C) the exercising muscle using water perfusion pants throughout the test. The peak oxygen consumption (V̇O<inf>2peak</inf>), exercise time to exhaustion (TTE), heart rate (HR), tympanic (Tty) and mean body temperature (Tb), and total sweat loss were also measured.

No significant differences were observed in the V̇O<inf>2peak</inf> or TTE among the 4 conditions; however, the HR, Tb, and total sweat loss were significantly higher (P<0.05) under warming conditions than cooling conditions.

These results suggest that although the cardiovascular and thermoregulatory strain is higher under warming conditions than cooling conditions, the exercising muscle temperature does not affect the performance of a GXT lasting approximately 15 min in a temperate environment.
