Acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis (ASPPC) is a rare clinical manifestation of ocular syphilis. The cause of the placoid lesion is still up for debate but could be caused by an impaired choriocapillaris perfusion. However, less attention has been paid to the hypofluorescence of the plaque on late-phase indocyanine green angiography (ICGA). The aim of this study was to comprehensively analyze multimodal imaging findings in patients with ASPPC and to highlight the value of ICGA for the diagnosis of ASPPC.

Two donor eyes in a research archive with AVL and age-related macular degeneration were analyzed with light and electron microscopy for AVL content at locations matched to ex vivo B-scans. A retrospective, observational clinical cohort study of 42 eyes of 30 patients at 2 referral clinics determined the frequency of optical coherence tomography features stratified by AVL fate.

Histologic and clinical cases showed subretinal drusenoid deposit and drusen. Ultrastructural AVL components in 2 donor eyes included retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) organelles (3%-22% of volume), outer segments (2%-10%), lipid droplets (0.2%-12%), and a flocculent material (57%-59%). Of 48 AVLs (mean follow-up 46 ± 39 months), 50% collapsed to complete RPE and outer retinal atrophy, 38% were stable, 10% resorbed, and 2% developed nefluorescence, yellow color, and growth-regression phases suggest dysregulation of lipid transfer pathways specific to cone photoreceptors and supporting cells in formation of AVL deposit, analogous to drusen and subretinal drusenoid deposit. Chronic muscle diseases (MD) are progressive and cause wasting and weakness in muscles and are associated with reduced quality of life (QoL). The ACTMuS trial examined whether Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an adjunct to usual care improved QoL for such patients as compared to usual care alone.

This two-arm, randomised, multicentre, parallel design recruited 155 patients with MD (Hospital and Depression Scale ⩾ 8 for depression or ⩾ 8 for anxiety and Montreal Cognitive Assessment ⩾ 21/30). Participants were randomised, using random block sizes, to one of two groups standard medical care (SMC) (n = 78) or to ACT in addition to SMC (n = 77), and were followed up to 9 weeks. The primary outcome was QoL, assessed by the Individualised Neuromuscular Quality of Life Questionnaire (INQoL), the average of five subscales, at 9-weeks. Trial registration was NCT02810028.

138 people (89.0%) were followed up at 9-weeks. At all three time points, the adjusted group difference favoured the intervention group and was significant with moderate to large effect sizes. Results showed that post primary vaccination seropositive rates of all 13 serotypes except type 3 were not significantly different between two groups.
