In this study, 40 patients underwent ICL implantation for both eyes one eye underwent traditional ICL implantation, and the other eye underwent OVD-free (pure) ICL implantation. Preoperative and postoperative UDVA, BCVA, equivalent spherical degree (SE), IOP, visual quality index, subjective visual quality scale, corneal endothelial cell density (ECD), operation time, and complications were compared between and within the traditional and pure ICL implantation groups.

Increased IOP >22 mmHg 2 h after surgery was noted in 8 eyes (20%) in the traditional group, but not in the pure group (0%,
< 0.001). Increased IOP relative to baseline was significantly higher at 2 h after surgery for the traditional group compared with the pure group (
< 0.001). UDVA, BCVA, and SE were significantly improved in the pure group compared with thions without causing additional complications.
The pure ICL implantation method was associated with faster visual acuity recovery, shorter operation time, and more stable intraocular pressure. Pure ICL represents a safe and convenient method for ICL implantation compared with the traditional method, completely eliminating OVD-related complications without causing additional complications.

Single-center retrospective cohort study.

We describe the results of a cohort study that included 85 eyes of 46 myopic patients who underwent implantation of Verisyse myopia, Veriflex, and Verisyse myopia toric (all Abbott Medical Optics, Inc.) intraocular lenses. Refractive functions and adverse events were assessed preoperatively, at 6 months, and 1, 2, 5, and 12 years after IF pIOL implantation.

Mean spherical equivalent was measured as -9.37 ± 2.87 D, 0.14 ± 0.61 D, and -0.42 ± 1.08 D, preoperatively, at 6 months and 12 years postoperatively, respectively. There was a significant reduction in the cylinder after surgery. At 12 years postoperatively, 90% of eyes had uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) of 20/40 and 64% of 20/20. The safety index was 1.10 for the whole postoperative follow-ufunction over the 12-year follow-up and also showed the influence of lower corneal pachymetry regarding EC loss.
To evaluate the intraobserver repeatability and interobserver reproducibility of Strip Meniscometry Tube (SMTube) and determine the correlations among the SMTube measurements and other ocular examinations in dry eye disease (DED) patients.

The study recruited 73 eyes of 49 DED patients. Every subject was subjected to the following five measurements sequentially the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire, Tear Meniscus Height (TMH) assessment, SMTube measurements, tear film breakup time (BUT) examination, and Schirmer I test (SIT). The repeatability and reproducibility of the measurements were assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the Bland-Altman analysis, and the correlations were evaluated by the Spearman rank-order correlation.

The repeatability and reproducibility of the SMTube measurements were good in DED patients. The ICCs between the repeatability and reproducibility of the SMTube measurements were 0.789 and 0.741, respectively, and the Bland-Altman 95% limits of the repeatability and the reproducibility were -1.726 to 1.658 and -0.967 to 1.474, respectively (all

Esophagectomy with combined single-port inflatable mediastinoscopy and laparoscopy reduces the risk of postoperative respiratory complications as it obviates the need to pass through the pleural space. However, it has strict indications owing to the narrow space for operation. Therefore, we adopted a sternal lifting method using a retractor that enables the expansion of the operating space, a technique which has not been previously reported. We describe our experience and report the results of an evaluation of this new approach.

Thirty-nine patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinomas underwent esophagectomy using combined single-port inflatable mediastinoscopy and laparoscopy from March 2019 to August 2021. miR-488-3p has been reported to play an important role in cancer progression and metastasis. The protein 53 (P53) gene serves as a mediator and biomarker of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the molecular mechanism underlying miR-488-5p in the pathology of ESCC through the P53 pathway has not been examined.

The expression levels of miR-488-5p were determined by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cytological experiments were performed to evaluate the biological functions of miR-488-5p. A bioinformatics analysis was performed to determine the pathways and key miR-488-5p targets associated with ESCC. Correlations between miR-488-5p and P53 signaling pathways were validated by western blotting and the dual luciferase reporter gene system. Finally, the expression level of miR-488-5p was regulated and tumor formation experiments were performed in nude mice.

The qRT-PCR analysis showed that MiR-488-5p expression was more upregulated in the KYSE-150 group tomotes ESCC progression by suppressing the P53 pathway. These findings should provide novel ideas for ESCC therapies.
Cardiac hypertrophy may be classified as either physiological or pathological. Pathological hypertrophy has a complex etiology and is genetically regulated. In this study, we used a mouse model of cardiac hypertrophy to explore the mechanisms of gene regulation, in particular, modulation of the expression of target genes through transcription factor activity, regulation of immune and inflammation-associated genes and regulation of the alternative splicing of transcription factors.

Lung cancer contributes significantly to the total of cancer-linked deaths globally, accounting for 1.3 million deaths each year. Preoperative albumin (Alb) concentration and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may reflect chronic inflammation and be used to predict lung cancer outcomes.

The clinical records of 293 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in Fujian Medical University Cancer Hospital & Fujian Cancer Hospital were reviewed retrospectively in this current study. Clinicopathologic pretreatment, including NLR, Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), and post-treatment value, such as tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) were documented. The cut-off finder application was employed to calculate the optimal threshold values. The significance of Alb concentration combined with NLR (COA-NLR) on the prediction of overall survival (OS) was explored using Kaplan-Meier analysis along with Cox proportional hazards.

The results revealed that COA-NLR could independently assess the OS of patients with NSCLC [hazard ratio (HR) =1.952, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.367 to 2.647, P<0.001]. Moreover, the 3-year OS rates were 87.2%, 68.5%, and 52.8% for the COA-NLR =0, COA-NLR =1, and COA-NLR =2, respectively (P<0.001).

Preoperative COA-NLR value can effectively stratifies prognosis in NSCLC patients by classified patients into three independent groups. link3 It can be adopted as an effective biomarker for prognosis in NSCLC patients treated with resection.
