In the coastal wetland, the contribution rate of DAMO process to methane removal increased from 12.1% to 33.5% along with continuously elevated nitrogen level in the 3-year tracking study. In the paddy field, the DAMO process accounted for 71.9% of total methane removal when nitrogen fertilizer was applied during the growing season, exceeding the aerobic methane oxidation process. This work would help us better understand the microbial methane cycle and reduce uncertainties in the estimations of the global methane emission.Denitrification, as both origins and sinks of N2O, occurs extensively, and is of critical importance for regulating N2O emissions in acidified soils. However, whether soil acidification stimulates N2O emissions, and if so for what reason contributes to stimulate the emissions is uncertain and how the N2O fractions from fungal (ffD) and bacterial (fbD) denitrification change with soil pH is unclear. Thus, a pH gradient (6.2, 7.1, 8.7) was set via manipulating cropland soils (initial pH 8.7) in North China to illustrate the effect of soil acidification on fungal and bacterial denitrification after the addition of KNO3 and glucose. Well-known immunomodulators and gut health stimulators are probiotics, prebiotics, together called synbiotics. They might combat air pollution-induced systemic inflammation and oxidative stress by optimizing the microbiota composition and microbial metabolites, thereby stimulating anti-inflammatory pathways and strengthening mucosal and epithelial barriers. Although clinical studies investigating the role of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics in an air pollution setting are lacking, these interventions show promising health promoting effects by affecting the gastrointestinal- and respiratory tract. This review summarizes the current data on how air pollution can affect the gut-lung axis and might impact gut and lung health. It will further elaborate on the potential role of probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics on the gut-lung axis, and gut and lung health.
Studies have shown that patients with lung adenocarcinoma exhibit a poor prognosis, and the overall effective rate of immunotherapy is relatively low. Previous studies reported on the BPIFB2 gene have shown that it participates in immune regulation in gastric cancer; however, the role and mechanisms of BPIFB2 in lung cancer remain unclear. The present study evaluated the mechanism of BPIFB2 in lung adenocarcinoma.

First, the immune infiltration status of lung adenocarcinoma was analyzed by performing bioinformatics analysis and the BPIFB2 gene was screened. Expression of BPIFB2 in lung adenocarcinoma was studied in vitro, and it was confirmed that BPIFB2 exerted effects on the chemotaxis of tumor cells to T cells. The mechanism was further analyzed and verified via in vivo experiments. Finally, the molecular mechanism of the effect of BPIFB2 on tumor cell chemotaxis T cells was confirmed in clinical specimens.

The present study aimed to examine the role of rash impulsivity and reward sensitivity in soft drink consumption using the two-factor model of impulsivity. Participants were a community sample of 229 adults (19-77 years). They completed self-report measures of impulsivity (SUPPS-P), reward sensitivity (RST-PQ) and beverage consumption (BEVQ-15). A principal component analysis was used to produce purer measures of rash impulsivity and reward sensitivity. Both rash impulsivity and reward sensitivity were positively associated with soft drink consumption, and each independently predicted soft drink consumption. Importantly, there was a significant interaction between the two, whereby rash impulsivity moderated the effect of reward sensitivity on soft drink consumption. The results support the logic of the two-factor model of impulsivity in the prediction of soft drink consumption. Further research should extend these findings to other consumption domains in both clinical and non-clinical populations.
The Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy (CALERIE™) phase 2 trial tested the effects of two years of 25% calorie restriction (CR) on aging in humans. CALERIE 2 was one of the first studies to use a graph of predicted weight loss to 1) provide a proxy of dietary adherence, and 2) promote dietary adherence. Assuming 25% CR, each participant's weight over time was predicted, with upper and lower bounds around predicted weights. Thus, the resulting weight graph included a zone or range of body weights that reflected adherence to 25% CR, and this was named the zone of adherence. Participants were considered adherent if their weight was in this zone. It is unlikely, however, that the entire zone reflects 25% CR.

Percent CR associated with the upper and lower bounds of the zone were determined via the Body Weight Planner (https//www.niddk.nih.gov/bwp) for participants in the CALERIE 2 CR group (N=143). Percent CR achieved by participants was estimated with the intake-balance method.

At month 24, the zone of adherence ranged from 10.4(0.0)% to 19.4(0.0)% CR [Mean(SEM)], and participants achieved 11.9(0.7)% CR and were in the zone.
