034) and median PFS (p = .025) with ICIs between patients with and without TMB-H. Conclusions This study revealed that TMB-H in advanced BTCs did not have a prognostic or role in the standard first-line treatment. However, TMB-H might be a predictive biomarker for response to ICIs in advanced BTC.Objective To compare the effectiveness, safety and survival outcome of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) versus surgical resection for treating single hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis. Methods A hospital-based retrospective study with 146 patients diagnosed with single HCC with Child-Pugh B cirrhosis from July 2010 to July 2018 was conducted in a tertiary teaching hospital. A total of 49 patients underwent TACE combined with HIFU (the combined group), and 97 patients underwent surgical resection (the resection group). Of them, 22 patients undergoing TACE combined with HIFU and 45 patients undergoing surgical resection had small HCC (tumor diameter ≤3 cm). The overall survival (OS) time, progression-free survival (PFS) time and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results In the single HCC tumor cohort, there was no significant difference in OS between the two groups [hazard ratio (HR) = ned group was shorter than that in the resection group (P = .001). Therein, there was no difference in the incidence of grade I complications (Clavien-Dindo classification) between the two groups (P = .866). Conclusion For patients with single or single small HCCs, TACE combined with HIFU may not be inferior to surgical resection in terms of the long-term survival rate, while surgical resection still has a definite advantage in terms of delaying recurrence. In addition, the combination of TACE and HIFU has higher safety than surgical resection. The present study examined pornography viewing, rape myth acceptance, and sexist attitudes. Data came from 392 male and 903 female participants. Multigroup SEM indicated neither pornography viewing, nor hardcore pornography viewing, were related to rape myth acceptance when controlling for sexist attitudes among men. Wald tests indicated hostile sexism to be a significantly stronger predictor of all rape myths examined compared to pornography viewing or hardcore pornography viewing in men and women. Latent variable interaction analyses suggested hardcore pornography viewing as a significant exacerbating factor for the relationship between hostile sexism and "she asked for it" rape myths across genders.
Emerging evidence shows that changes in the bone and its microenvironment following radiotherapy are associated with either an inhibition or a state of low bone formation. Ionizing radiation is damaging to the jawbone as it increases the complication rate due to the development of hypovascular, hypocellular, and hypoxic tissue. This review summarizes and correlates the current knowledge on the effects of irradiation on the bone with an emphasis on jawbone, as these have been a less extensively studied area.
The stringent regulation of bone formation and bone resorption can be influenced by radiation, causing detrimental effects at structural, cellular, vascular, and molecular levels. It is also associated with a high risk of damage to surrounding healthy tissues and an increased risk of fracture. Technological advances and research on animal models as well as a few human bone tissue studies have provided novel insights into the ways in which bone can be affected by high, low and sublethal dose of radiation. The influence of radiation on bone metabolism, cellular properties, vascularity, collagen, and other factors like inflammation, reactive oxygen species are discussed.

Both cognitive control (CC) deficits and reduced speed of lexical retrieval in Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) tasks are characteristics of Developmental Dyslexia (DD), but it is still not fully understood how these deficits relate to each other and to reading problems. To examine this question, we tested adolescents with DD (n = 38), poor readers (PR; n = 25) and typical readers (TR; n = 33) matched on age and IQ, on CC functions with Stroop, Stop Signal, Simon, Backward Digit Span and n-back tasks and on lexical retrieval and lexical conflict resolution with RAN of pictures in semantically homogeneous vs. mixed trials. As expected, in the blocked RAN Task DD individuals showed longer naming times and a greater effect of lexical conflict resolution (indexed by difference scores of naming times in the homogeneous and mixed conditions) than TR participants. We also found significant group differences (TR = PR > DD) in CC measures. Naming time was associated with CC, while the lexical interference effect did not show any association with this set of abilities. These findings suggest that DD individuals show impairments in multiple cognitive functions, such as cognitive control, lexical retrieval and lexical conflict resolution. Our results also suggest that CC functions are involved in lexical retrieval, but we have not found evidence for their involvement in lexical conflict resolution processes.Aneurysms of the ascending aorta, unrelated to xenobiotic administration, are described in 5 rats and 2 mice in nonclinical safety studies conducted at Charles River Laboratories (CRL) sites over the past 10 years. The most prominent microscopic finding was focal dilation with disruption of the wall of the ascending aorta with chronic adventitial inflammation or fibroplasia. The pathogenesis of this finding is unknown. There were no associated macroscopic findings, clinical abnormalities, or vascular lesions elsewhere. The results of a search of historical control data from toxicology studies of 1 day to 72 weeks' duration performed at CRL for aortic findings from 5900 mice and 23,662 rats are also reported. Aortic lesions are uncommon in mice and rats used in nonclinical safety studies, but toxicologic pathologists should be aware that aneurysms of the ascending aorta with fibroplasia and inflammation in the aortic wall and adventitia may occur spontaneously or iatrogenically, as they have the potential to impact interpretation in toxicology studies.
The development of asthma is highly affected by exposure to exogenous and endogenous oxidative molecules, but the impact of this exposure on the pathophysiology of asthma has received little attention.
Evaluating group of selective oxidative stress markers as a tool in the management of asthma disease.
In comparison with matched healthy controls, levels of the oxidant and antioxidant markers lipid peroxidation malondialdehyde (MDA), Total glutathione (tGSH), Uric acid (UA), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx), Catalase (CAT) superoxide dismutase (SOD), and Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were assessed in serum and saliva of different asthma groups.
All oxidative markers in serum and saliva of asthma patients showed significant alterations from normal healthy controls (
< 0.05), except the salivary SOD (
= 0.441). Their levels in serum were significantly correlated with asthma severity (
< 0.05), and the distinguishing between childhood and adult asthma was significantly accomplished by GPx, SOD, TAC markers (
< 0.05). However, in patients with childhood asthma no significant differences were detected between the levels of GPx, CAT, UA, MDA in serum and saliva samples (
> 0.05).
Determination of the oxidative markers GPx, CAT, UA in serum or saliva can distinguish asthma from healthy states. The serum levels of UA and TAC are highly effective in monitoring asthma severity, while the salivary GPx, CAT, UA, MDA are beneficial in the management of childhood asthma. Discrimination of the age factor between asthma groups can be achieved by testing GPx, SOD, TAC in serum.

The function of DDX27 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain enigmatic. In light of this, we tried to investigate the regulatory role and underlying mechanism of DDX27 in HCC. Materials and methods DDX27 expression levels were detected by qRT-PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry assays in HCC tissues and cells. Colony formation, CCK-8, growth curve, wound healing and transwell assays were conducted to investigate the effect of DDX27 on the proliferation and metastasis of HCC cells. RNA-sequencing was performed to detect the effect of DDX27 on downstream signaling pathway. The effect of DDX27 on HCC progression was evaluated using in vivo murine xenograft model. Results we found an increased expression of DDX27 in HCC tissues with comparison to its para-tumor tissues. The high expression levels of DDX27 were associated with poor prognosis in HCC patients. DDX27 upregulation promoted cell metastasis. Mechanistic studies suggested that DDX27 overexpression induces the major vault protein (MVP) expression and enhances the phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2. Inhibition of ERK pathway impaired the cellular metastastic abilities induced by DDX27. The induction of DDX27 in HCC progression was further confirmed from tumors in mouse model. Conclusion our results disclose a novel mechanism by which DDX27 enhances ERK signaling during HCC progression. DDX27 might be used in targeted therapy for HCC patients.Telemedicine has provided older adults the ability to seek care remotely during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. However, it is unclear how diverse medical conditions play a role in telemedicine uptake. A total of 3379 participants (≥65 years) were interviewed in 2018 as part of the National Health and Aging Trends Study. We assessed telemedicine readiness across multiple medical conditions. Most chronic medical conditions and mood symptoms were significantly associated with telemedicine unreadiness, for physical or technical reasons or both, while cancer, hypertension, and arthritis were significantly associated with telemedicine readiness. Our findings suggest that multiple medical conditions play a substantial role in telemedicine uptake among older adults in the US. selleckchem Therefore, comorbidities should be taken into consideration when promoting and adopting telemedicine technologies among older adults.
